There are a lot of people saying a Hansen article quote's Te'o as saying:

1. They met at the Stanford game in '09
2. They vacationed together
3. Brian Te'o talked with her on the phone

I'll have to try and find the article to verify, but that is what is being said.

That twitter account was created like an hour ago. Just some one ****ing with him I think

While both independently seem completely implausible... when you compare them to each other, it is FAR more plausible that Manti got duped than it is he hatched some diabolic plan to build up a fake girlfriend years ago just for the sake of a potential unnecessary publicity stunt.

Am I wrong that it sounds like the perpetrators "killed her off" because she was supposed to visit for senior day and that isn't possible with someone who is fake?

Listen, maybe he did meet this "supposed person" at Stanford and in Hawaii, it was all part of their plot to make Te'o look bad. She said her name was Lennay Kekua, which it wasn't. Maybe it was all part of an elaborate scheme. We can speculate all we want, let's get more info.

Ugh. I could see Manti coming up with some apparently innocuous lies to lay a foundation for what was really just a long-distance phone/internet "relationship", and now each one is going to make him look like some evil conspirator hoping to boost his Heisman campaign.

Really hoping there are no such quotes, but with our luck lately, I'm not counting on it.

Yep, I have known people with online girlfriends to make up stories about how they met, just because they were embarrassed to have met online. Wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that Teo had done so, but boy does it look bad now!

I definitely remember Manti saying they met at Stanford and spent time together in Hawaii.

The University had a moral obligation to say something in light of all the publicity the story was getting and the awards ceremonies. Assuming there were no legal restrictions (can't think of any), how could they just hope this would not get uncovered?

maaaaaaan come on, son!! Not everyone can be you...I could understand how embarrassing it might be for MANTI TE'O, somebody with so much celebrity that he could pretty much have his pick of the litter, to disclose that his relationship was one that started online and that he hadn't in fact met her...It would allow people, imo much of your thinking, to de-legitimize the feelings (story) he felt after word of her death because he didn't "meet her" ever...Regardless of ever physically being in her presence, that doesn't take away from the feelings that grew over the course of time...which is why people are mad at the hoaxers more so than willing to point fingers at Manti for being one of many who start online relationships...

No, I had the same thought. That may have been exactly why they killed her off ... things had gotten so serious that they knew they had to arrange a meeting or end it.

I recall Teo recounting in a TV interview how his girlfriend's brother called him to tell him that she had passed ... that was one of the hoaxers?

If Teo really wasn't in on it (right now I think he wasn't) these people belong in the deepest level of hell. How could you do that to someone?

But why would he have to be in on it in that scenario? Maybe one of the people in on the hoax actually was a women that met Manti and even went on vacations with him. the hoax does not have to be purely over the phone/internet. There could have been a real live "Lennay".
