Looked at his film again. Earlier in the process I was saying he needs to play CB. But, now that our secondary is do deep and after looking at his film again I would like him to play the Theo Riddick role. Although I like James Onwualu in that role also. Damn to many versatile athletes in this class...smh ;)

So apparently Kinlaw, although listed on the roster, did not show up to the Chesapeake Bowl. Sapp thinks that he may have only ever been listed on the roster by mistake, as he never mentioned the game on Twitter in the days leading up to the event, unlike Randolph and Butler

It is seriously tough to figure out where everybody should play with all these great athletes coming in. I just watched Kinlaw's tape and I see why you think Kinlaw would be great in the Theo Riddick role; I agree. But I also love Onwualu in that role, especially after seeing his senior film, and Hunter can also line up in a bunch of different places. We have a number of guys who can play that Theo Riddick role, so it's not like we NEED Kinlaw there.

The other thing that makes it tough to forecast where people will play is that Kinlaw has no defensive film. Or at least I haven't seen any.

Based on the fact that the staff has been recruiting Kinlaw at CB and on Onwualu's outstanding senior tape showing him essentially playing a Theo Riddick-like role as an RB/WR who lines up all over, I have to say that I'd leave Kinlaw on defense and Onwualu on offense. But it's a tough call with so many versatile and talented players, and that's a great problem to have.

I agree with what you said. I guess we will just have to wait and see how all the pieces fall. It is great to be in this situation.

The reason there's no defensive film is because if I'm not mistaken, this year (his senior season) is his first year playing in the defensive backfield. He had been playing QB prior to this. And I haven't seen any senior season highlights yet. Once those come out, there will be some highlights.

We must remember he had a truncated season due to the leg injury sustained when playing for Team USA.

I believe he only played in one or two games this season, so there wont be many highlights lol

I know all that, and btw, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the fact that he has no defensive film or that it means he shouldn't play defense. He has played DB in camps and 7-on-7 events and things like that, and I assume the staff has seen enough in those settings to conclude that Kinlaw will be a good DB. All I'm saying is that it's difficult for us as fans to form our own opinion about where Kinlaw should play because we haven't seen him play DB. We really have to trust the staff on this one -- which I'm always willing to do.

Oh, I wasn't saying you didn't know. I was just reminding people and letting the new members aware of this fact. No worries.

And I wholeheartedly agree with the bolded part.

Kinlaw is arguably the most forgotten man in this class. Committed early, was injured in summer, missed 90% of his senior season, did not participate in any all-star games, has relatively kept out of the spotlight. He is an outstanding athlete and it will be interesting to follow his career at ND. Probably will change positions at least once (CB,S,WR)

Maybe if he were 100% healthy then he might be in that conversation but until then not even close.

You have to factor size in. Part of what makes Jaylon special is his ability to move that well with his frame. In that sense, its not even close.

I do think Kinlaw has a lot of talent, though, and I am very excited about him at CB. If he can stay healthy I think he'll be very good.

I don't know if I would rate Kinlaw above Redfield, Folston, and Bryant so easily. Fuller and Onwualu are also pretty sick athletes.

I love Kinlaw, but you aren't going to find many people that put him in the same athletic class as Jaylon or Bryant for that matter.

Jaylon is one of the best athletes in country period.

He is the best athlete in this class and that is including Jaylon Smith.

Bold statement. I think Jaylon could realistically play RB, WR, DE, OLB, CB, or S and be an all-american at any of them at some point, due to his freakish athletic nature. Big and strong enough to play RB and not take too much punishment, athletic enough to run routes as a WR or defend them at CB, got the right frame that you could ask him to add weight and put his hand down on the DL. And he's a mix of it all that he could play safety in coverage or in run support, same with LB.

A true rare specimen. And I'm not taking anything from Kinlaw at all... he can play RB, WR, CB or S, which speaks to his own athleticism. However, because of the size/strength difference, I don't think you can place anyone over Jaylon.

Equally bold statement. I agree he could be All-American at LB, though.

I thought it was appropriate to answer a bold statement with another. I also thought Davonte Neal would have 300+ yards receiving over the last half of the season, so I'm not ashamed to get in the "bold statement" mix.

Yep it's my opinion and I have Kinlaw in the same athlete class as Smith. I believe Kinlaw runs in the 4.3's.

I think he wins 5, they'll give it to him his redshirt freshman year for playing so well in the AA game.

Yeah. Jaylon is a complete athletic freak. Kinlaw is great but he is not in that class. He's a great athlete in a normal way, not in a once-in-a-generation way.

Kinlaw's HC vetoed him playing in postseason all-star games. Kinlaw wanted the chance to prove himself after missing majority of 2 seasons

Glad to know this. I was starting to wonder whether he wasn't playing in all-star games because he was still not healthy or whether he was lacking commitment. Looks like my concerns were unfounded. If he's saving himself up for college, that's all the better.

He's not even saving himself..his coach told him not to do it.
