Here's and alternate viewpoint, which may already have been brought up, but I don't have time to sort through the whole thread. So, I apologize if it has already been brought up:

After being smoked by Alabama in the BCS game, ND and Kelly are trying to raise his profile as a coach who is-despite the loss- so valuable that the NFL wants him. It raises his profile nationally and gives him lots of publicity, and after turning down the NFL who recognizes his genius, Kelly signs a long term contract with ND reassuring this recruiting class and the next that he - despite being wanted by the NFL- is staying at ND.

I also have a view similar to this. After interviewing with Philly, he can tell ND nation and more importantly recruits after seeing what the NFL looks like ND looks even better and he is even more committed, so in sort of a strange way this creates a even stronger commitment! Sounds like a stretch I know but this did cross my mind. Glass half full? Perhaps!

All the comments about the recruits being in the dark and things, isn't it dead period for recruiting where we can't contact them? If they knew what was going on, that would show a recruiting violation and a bigger issue.

contacting recruits during a dead period would be a bigger issue...however, leaving recruits hanging is a big, immediate issue.

Les Miles was courted by whoever he was earlier in the year, and LSU came out the seemingly the next day and Les had a shiny new contract with LSU. This was done quickly and with urgency for good reason too.

The damage has been done, does this fester for a week or longer, or does ND announce a shiny new contract today(as in 5mins ago) for BK?

That's a great point. Perhaps Kelly, Armstrong and Swarbrick planned it this way. It resolves the puzzling apparent conflict between Kelly and Swarbrick; they've always (outwardly) had a great relationship thus far.

Strong wants the South Carolina job, which will be opening up in a couple years.

FWIW Spurrier signed a contract extension till 2017. He also gets $175K for 10 wins and $200K for 11 wins in bonuses each year. He is not going anywhere anytime soon IMO. USC loves Spurrier.

remember BK's background in politics...he knows what he is doing. but the more time that goes by with no word from anyone but ESPN makes me a little nervous.
he is on vacation right? maybe he is mulling over while he is gone.

And IF Kelly was a fool and left. Kirby Smart is #1 on my list and it's not even close

Things I think Kelly would want:

- Admission standards flexed.
- More money for his assistants.
- Lengthy and lucrative contract for himself.

All things JW would need time to evaluate and consider university wide.

He may not be able to provide kelly with some of his requests.

ALSO...
- A retractable Golden Dome over the field
- A Jumbotron on the order of the Dallas Cowboys
- Field Turf
- the letter W stricken from the English language

I agree. I just noticed several posts about recruits knowing or not knowing or why don't they or some were already told or.........

The only way to remedy that with the current dead period is a public statement by BK or ND. That's not likely to happen until an extension is inked.

Hope Coach stays and is with ND for years to come. Don't really like how this happens now, but hopefully it gets settled quickly
