Can't imagine what it will be like for the handful of kids they will cut from this class before signing day. Only reward they will get for their dedication and commitment to the program is to have their scholarship pulled.

I would love to hear an Aggie's argument FOR such an atrocity. 101 over a 4-year period, and that's not even including 5th years (?). A minimum of 16 kids will be forced out of their dream come next year, one way or another- just ain't right.

Yeah that last post is good... also ends up proving the point against A&M. If you count all of their EEs last year against the previous class you get 15. If you have the 10 EEs max allowable from this year (by all accounts they only have 9? or is one of the new kids an EE too?) then you still are at 26-27 kids and looking to add more which is textbook oversigning.

I have heard on the Bill King show numerous times from JC and Barton Simmons that they are a few guys "committed" to A&M that will never qualify and it is skewing the number.

Now, I know we all understand what happened with Jamel James. He was never going to get in to ND but he is going to get into other schools so he eventually publicly decommitted. But some of the guys from the A&M side don't have that luxury. They simply cannot qualify anywhere.

So what is A&M supposed to do? Tell the kid to he has to announce to the world that he is a dumbass and they aren't allowed to sign? Plus, that wouldn't be a smart idea if A&M is interested in recruiting the guy from the JUCO level.

IMO, this situation is much different that what used to go on in the SEC.

From the link:

FWIW, TAMU is not oversigning....

They signed 19 in the previous class that had 4 ees in it, so many of this class will be early enrollees; others wont qualify and/or will greyshirt. Keep in mind some TAMU kids will also declare for the draft, too.

Because they were in the Big 12, they have signed 3 classes (the 4th had 28) under 25:

2012: 19 signees (4 early enrollees)

2011: 22 signees (5 early enrollees)

2010: 23 signees (4 early enrollees)

2009: 28 signees

They signed 92 players over the last 4 cycles, and of those 92, ~72 are still on the roster. 17 of those are seniors, which leaves them at about 55 scholly's after this year. They could possibly have as few as 51 scholarship players after pro declarees are done. Some of these kids wont get in, some kids may not come back, so they've got some room.

The numbers to look at are 25 and 85. TAMU is at least 30 away from 85 total schollys. After early enrollees they should be able to get to 25 for this years class and be close to 85. Georgia is expecting to do the same thing this year because they took a small class last year: it's really about taking advantage of the early enrollee that they get this done.

Now, the SEC DOES NOT explicitly say a team CANT go over 85 at signing day, so that may be something to look out for. For example, TAMU could sign 40, then get 15 EE's to get to 25 for this year. However, they would then be at ~90 schollys TOTAL. 5 guys would have to be gone by August 1st (med hardship, violation of team rules, we know the deal) in order to get to 85.

I know the number appears exorbitant, but this is not a Houston Nutt situation there. In his case, he signed 37 knowing he couldn't get everybody in.

The roster breakdown can be found on ESPN insider, for those who have access.

I'm confident these #'s are correct, but perhaps someone has seen different numbers, I'd be interested in knowing what they are if they have. Cool thread. End of link.

My opinion starts here: Ok, so it's not the last 4 classes that are of concern, it's the last 3 and the one that's about to sign their LOI's. So 19+22+23 = 64 +36 = 100.
Using the logic that some may not come back and some might not get in creates the exact problem that needs to be corrected. Conversely, what if they all do come back? How then does this situation get rectified? I think we all know the answer to that one. If the staff is counting on roughly 5 guys getting medicals or being kicked off team for violation of team rules then they are setting themselves up for problems. What a joke.

I wonder if his ankle injury was worse than was initially let on, or if something else is going on. Before he got hurt, he seemed on the way to being a pretty good LB.

Wow, disappointing news (unless it's really what he wants, in which case, good for him). He was a promising prospect and player, for sure. I know I wanted him to be Irish bad.

I watched their spring game, they were pretty high on him then and to start the season.
