Great prospect, but would definitely trade him for AQM, Redfield, Folston, LaRue... basically any of the remaining blue chippers on our board. So it worked out for both sides. Good luck to him.

Would be great to know exactly what he was thinking...Seems like the Oregon situation could be the most uncertain. Good luck Danny! Give USC fits.

It doesn't matter if they change coaches. They're going to be a "cool" program no matter what because they are the official team of Nike. As long as hey attract good players (and they will), they'll be a good team. Where would you have gone if you were him?

I would have went to UCLA or UW. Oregon football program from a morale standpoint is a joke.

Anyone who says they wouldn't go to Oregon hasn't seen their facilities or heard the benefits players get. Legal benefits, not cheating benefits for the holier than thou fans who were going to reply and say "hurrrr everyone cheats but ND".

Don't believe that was an option for him. Kind of my point. I would go to Oregon to play football over UW or UCLA 1000 times out of 1000.

I'd probably choose UCLA because it's a good school.

Sports-wise, I think it's a good fit for Danny. Wish him well. Thinking things have worked out the best for everyone. Not sure what position he ends up in. but I'd guess D.

Wish the kid all the best, especially against SC.

Wish him the best as well, but hope they lose against SC. I root for everyteam on ND's schedule every year until they play us. I want every team that faces the Irish to end up with 1 loss every year, that 1 loss of course against ND.

Recruiting > Strength of Schedule

SC is arguably our most dangerous recruiting rival. Thus, it's best for us if they lose every game as ignominiously as possible. You can lump Michigan and Stanford in this category as well.

But for any opponent that we don't recruit against heavily, we obviously want them to finish 11-1.

Are you going to get into that logical argument stuff on the day after Christmas in the deep snow?

Agreed 100%... Recruiting is what makes great teams. Strength of Schedule is not a priority.

Any chance Mattingly comes back to ND since Chip Kelly left Oregon?

It haven't heard anything about either side trying to rekindle the relationship, but I'd love it if he'd consider us. If we strike out with most of the elite recruits left on our board and end up with a spot for a big skill guy on signing day, I'd love for Mattingly to take it. From a purely football perspective, I like Mattingly more than Smythe because Mattingly can play both LB and TE. Not sure whether Smythe can play LB at all. Now, Smythe is a perfect fit as a student-athlete, so he has that going for him.

oregon's OC is the new head coach I believe so really as long as he didn't have a big connection with Kelly there's no reason to leave cuz the system will most likely be the same

Kid looks really good at LB and on special teams.

What could have been.
