So I started this thread almost a year and a half ago with news of my air traffic radar certification and have been loving the job ever since. I currently work at a smaller radar approach control in the south.

But, I am thrilled to say, I have recently been picked up on a bid for New York Tracon. The Common I, N90, THE approach control.

For those of you that don't know a lot about ATC, this is like getting a shot at the majors. People that don't make it there curse the place and those that do, love it.

2012 has been tough for my family but this and the news of a little wild one on the way has been a blessing from God.. I count them everyday.

Anyone else making moves??

Just re read this entire thread....great thread my man- Cheers to you and Congratulations on successes.

I am truly impressed with the ppl on IE- ND grads and other schools, really impressive. You each have been blessed.

As far as moves for me- i have put my second masters from NU on hold, since we (Intel) are bringing up a new Fab (which comes with new development) and it is swallowing up my time. However still plan on pursuing my dream of getting a Masters from Northwestern.

Happy Holidays to all.

Definitely many impressive folks on IE, and it's great to get to know everyone's background.

My story:
State school for undergrad, which was my only option financially and honestly in terms of where I could get admitted. Then taught elementary and middle school for a few years in Maryland while getting my Masters. Then moved to Pennsylvania to become a school principal, and earned my doctorate at Penn while working as a principal. Now am in charge of curriculum and instruction in a Philly suburb for one of the largest districts in the state. Stressful job at times, but it feels so good every day to know the positive impact you're making in children's lives.

Huge ND fan through it all. Go Irish!

I downloaded a meth recipe from the USC forums, as a backup plan. If Social Security runs out, I'll be ready!

Been a paramedic for about 4 1/2 years now. Working towards getting on the helicopter, I'd love to be a flight medic. I'll also finish my RN degree in about a year.

Junior at Arkansas State University, majoring in Business Economics. Plan on getting a JD and/or MBA, most likely from the University of Arkansas or UALR. I will most likely apply to several other schools including Notre Dame and University of Chicago. My current GPA is 3.85 and I made a 165 on my LSAT. I am still trying to decide if I should take the LSAT again.

Always retake. Even if you're not interested in going to a better school (which should only be the case if you're getting a solid scholarship from the lower ranked school and you have no interest in working for a large firm), getting a better score will likely net you a better scholarship.

Do hospital billing type work part time.

Graduated BA exercise science.

Going to school for physical therapy. 3 semesters, 2 summers of unpaid clinical work, and hopefully just 1 licensing exam (to be taken October of 2014) to go. Its been a long road. The end is not around the corner just yet but is down the street.

Volunteer on the board of a travel non tryout youth football organization on the NW side of Chicago not too far from O'Hare International Airport. We go from ages 6-14. Teams are by age and weight most of kids on the team I coach are 12 and 13 year olds. The name of our teams is the Falcons hence the picture for my avatar I really have no love for the Atlanta Falcons.

Did you ever consider applying for ACE? If things don't pan out to a full-time gig right away, ACE might be a solid option.

I have, however since I already have my education degree in secondary ed I would have to get my masters through ACE in elementary ed which would not necessarily help me getting a high school job. However, if all else fails I may just consider it anyway.

Graduated HS in May '86. Entered USAF Basic Training June '86.

Spent 20 years in the AF as an aircraft mechanic, retiring as a Production Superintendent.

Earned my BS in HR Mgmt from Park University in 2010 and my MS in Leadership from Grand Canyon University in 2012.

Work as a manager in a distribution center currently on weekends, but want to get into education arena some day. Need to get my substitute certificate so I can work part time during the week. And maybe start teaching online...

My wife is a 3rd grade teacher, but is going back to school to get a Master's in Speech Pathology, so I'll be supporting her for the next 2 1/2 years...

Great stories here! Wish I had seen this thread sooner.

In the words of Navin Johnson…Huh? My story? Ok. Things were never easy for me I was born a poor black child in Mississippi…

College Years: Studied Journalism/Mass Comm at St. Bonaventure for a year, and decided Journalism wasn’t for me. Transferred to a state school in NY. Spent 6 more years there switching majors, bartending, and having a great time. Tried stand up while in college down in NYC…I’ve been in showcases headlined by Jim Gaffigan and Chris Rock (when Rock was working new material for hosting the Oscars). Talked with some agents, but stopped doing stand up (couldn’t afford moving to NYC at the time and the 5.5 hour commute was a bitch to perform for 7 minutes- and this was pre-comedian strike in NYC you made about $60 a night to perform). Still write from time to time, but haven’t been a stage in several years (haven't ruled out performing again).

Bought a piece of a 2 year old thoroughbred…he’s amazing. Won his first stakes race in December, and his trainer is eyeing some major races starting in February with the hopes of making the derby. Shoot me a PM if you want a hot tip (wow that doesn’t sound right- racing tip that is).

Right now I work a job in credit risk management that I don’t really love, but it pays the bills. Looking at the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester for my MBA, but it’s going to take a pretty strong showing on the GMATs to get in.

Gotcha, that makes sense. Best of luck in finding something soon!
