To be fair, his replacement has played all year and is a freshman all American going into the game. I have no idea how much experience Jones' backup has.

Why does it matter what excuses people make? R u going to party less? Will anyone talk about Barrett Jones playing or not in one year? Five years? Ten years? U think the players wont come back in twenty five years for an anniversary moment in the stadium because the Alabama center wasnt playing?


i know others share your sentiment but i really do not understand why winning sn't enough. Why do we have to overcome every obstacle to do it?

Dude, were playing Bama. The only way their fans won't put an asterisk on it is if they win.

There is no way that Jones, good as he is, is looking forward to smashing into Nix all game, healthy or not. It was said more than once by the commentators that Jones does not like to be head up with a power NT, and the offensive coordinator plans actually scheme to encourage the NT to move off the center's head.

One thing Diaco could use the extra scheming time for would be to design the line-ups so that Nix stayed right in front of Jones regardless [by slightly offsetting the linebackers]. If Jones is really limping now, he's going to feel it in the game once the bashing starts.

As to "asterisks": who gives a Dammm? Do you think that this is the only time that Kelly's going to get us here? You can't asterisk multiple wins.

After this game it is possible that true sports people will not only recognize Notre Dame as the best team, but also as the best "SEC defense" [which term we can then begin to turn into a joke], and our old buddies Stanford as one of the best three teams in the country too. If Oklahoma shows up, they too leap over several SECs and the "asterisk" is trashed.

That's my Mayan/SEC apocalypse.

A lot of time? He's got 2.5 weeks and he's on crutches. He'll be out of contact for over a month nursing a bum leg. I dont care if he plays, he's going to get throttled by the best NT in the country. No man with 1.5 legs can handle Louis Nix. Its like a Prius with a donut tire vs. a Dodge Ram. No shot. Physics never lie

I have a few. So I like them. But, before I get one, I ask myself "how will this look when I am 70?". This would fail the 70 years test like an Alabama player failing a 5th grade spelling bee. This has to be one of the top 10-15 worst decisions I have ever seen anyone make. He's got the body of magic-card player, and the tattoo of a Latin King Gang member. He needs a shrink.

No person in my family has any tattoo. We are a dying breed I realize, but as far as the guys are concerned, it is a sign of weakness --- not standing on what and who you are [like wearing clothes advertising businesses --- university loyalties are a different statement]. But we know we are dinosaurs. Still, it didn't stop us from knocking the blocks off the other guys, tattooed or not.

The only tattoos we respect are things like a navy or marine corpsman's anchor or something specifically military that was earned. This guy's display would have just made us want to send him to the hospital --- after throwing up ourselves.
