Am I crazy in watching that film and thinking he would make a good safety?

Wow.... underrated much? I hate to be one of those guys who goes "ZOMG OUR GUY IS AWESOME AND SO UNDERRATED!!" But holy hell are those highlights impressive because he clearly has the build & speed to play about 4 different positions at a very high level.

Had the same thought. Before he got bumped up to 4:s:, I was sure he was this class' sleeper. Even at 4:s:, he might still be.

Just looks like a all around better athlete on his senior tape. Very Impressed.

I'm with you guys. I feel like i took him for granted for a while because he committed so early, but that tape officially made him one of my favorite players in the class. Physical, elusive, can hit, can high point the ball, makes guys miss ... What more do you want. Really exciting.

Heck he could add 20 lbs easy and be an amazing running back.

His tape reminds me more of Golden Tate's tape rather than Floyd's

(Yes I know he has the same trainer as Mike had)

Strong hands, good vision, smart runner, and explosive....

Unbelievable get for this team, he's an EE right?

Said it many times in this thread...he is the steal of the class. This years Chris Brown. Will be Theo 2.0 and although I would love to get Folston, I am ok if we don't because of James and his teammate Jeff jones would be great get for the 14 class.

Jones doesn't play for Cretin-Derham.

If you keep up with his training program, and watch the film, one thing jumps off the page. No one can tackle him; he is too strong. Watch the film again. He gets his yardage. He is a beast. More elusive. But a truck just the same. This kids upside is OFF THE CHARTS.

I stick my neck out and make some predictions from time to time, and usually they are whoppers. But this guy is going to make everyone go, "dammmmmmmnnnnnnnnn!" Except those that are cringing or have their faces buried in the dirt.

I want to bump my own bump because JO, needs all your love.

I want to acknowledge James for passing up the Semper Fi invitation to concentrate on family, training and his eye on ND's semester starting in the next couple of weeks.

I will now make my first prediction. James Onwaula will jump out of this class. He will be the early star of this class.

His training is second to none. He has exceeded every goal set, and he has exceeded Michael Floyd's development at that age. He has dominated his competition. He has shown high character, an incredible work ethic, humility, and wisdom beyond his age.

He will walk in and contribute. Immediately. People will wonder where he came from. Refer to this post.

^ I like your style bogs. Everyone around the Cretin program loves this kid. High character with a higher ceiling on the field. Very versatile and willing to play any role to help the team win. Future leader of this team. Can't wait to see how BK and his staff bring the best out of this kid.

Welcome aboard!

Can you tell me any reason to expect this kid not to meet with the success (give or take) of say a Michael Floyd?

Also, I am not saying anything against any member of this class. I have spoken with Corey Robinson, seen Jaylon Smith play, (and I am not even creepy), and shook hands with about a third of the class. This classes collective high character, and wisdom is astonishing. You know how everyone is talking about Notre Dame now? When it comes to player development the conversation is going to accelerate from a buzz buzz, to a hurricane!

He doesn't have the same natural physical tools as Michael. He can be great with his drive but he'll have to work hard.

Right, let's not put the Floyd comparison on him yet ... that's just a lot of pressure. Floyd had uber-elite ball skills. You just had to throw it near him and he'd come down with it. Hopefully James's ball skills are just as strong, but you can't really get that from the tape because he plays more RB than WR.

The tape is excellent though, and James shows great athleticism and after-the-catch running ability, so I do expect big things from him.

Yeh, no young guy needs a "Floyd" or "Te'o" or "Eifert" laid on them. All those young kids should be praised with "You're the next great James Onwualu", or something like that. Or, "Young man, YOU are REALLY talented, and with your character and work ethic, the sky's the limit!" Our young superman will flourish with the qualities within his own skin, which are unique to him and plenty OK for the job.

Coach 1: "Is Eddy Lacy more of a Trent Richardson RB or a LaMichael James-style runner?"
Coach 2: "How dare you. Eddie Lacy is a unique shing star. One of a kind in the bright night sky."

later with a recruit...

Coach 1: "You know son, when I saw your film, it took me write back to another great young WR I once coached: [BLEEP]. I see that same level of talent in you, son. With hard work and dedication you could be the next [BLEEP]. In fact, you could re-write the record books, just like [BLEEP]."
Recruit: "I hate you."
Coach 2: "Let's get out of here, kid. I'm taking a job at Washington."

Note: JO's game does not remind me of Floyd.

Okay, I was making a point. The point I was making was no one talks about this guy. He didn't choose to go to a bowl game, because he is locked into heading off to SB in a couple of weeks.

And his trainer and coach have both said he was ahead of where MF was at the same age.

(I was opening up the possibility to a major diamond find, (in the rough) not fantasizing an 18 year old into all-world status as a freshman.)

I hear ya big guy. I'm not really good at making player comparisons so I won't even go there but I am really excited about this kid! Ok I'll give it a shot, could be the next Percy Harvin!

I still think JO will become a TJ Jones type of WR and hopefully just as reliable!

No, JO is a unique WR IMO. I can't think of a good comparison for him.

As for the WR in this class that I think is in the TJ Jones mold it would be Will Fuller.

I'm with you. JO is much bigger and more physical than TJ. Fuller is much closer to TJ, but also sounds faster.

JO is more like Nelson Agholor.

WHAT?!

In size, I think, is what he meant (NA is listed as 6'1" - 185). But I don't understand why nobody gets what a beast JO is. He is bigger, nearly 6-2, isn't he and well over 200 lbs?
