Yeah, but one time a student died in a tragic accident and once a student from a neighboring college with psychological issues took her own life after making unsubstantiated accusations against a football player. So clearly ND has sold out its values to get back to the top! This article clearly has no perspective.

(Please tell me I don't need italics here.)

Yes, including this in the article was unfortunate, but the discussion of the football player's classroom and dorm experiences was wonderful.

Shawnee, I was more talking about how others constantly want to bring that up as a counterweight to what truly differentiates ND from the football factories, using it to undermine or downplay how unique Notre Dame is among its football power peers. It is the go-to factoid for Irish haters, and the most tragically ironic part about it is that the people who do go there don't give a damn about Declan or Lizzy, they're just using them to take a shot at Notre Dame and its community, which actually does give a damn.

Unfortunately, what happened to those two students is a part of the story that will (and probably should) be mentioned when talking about Notre Dame football and its relationship with ND students and its community. But there is a responsible way to weave that into the narrative and a vindictive way to do so.

Forde has written some excellent articles on ND recently. I'd be hard pressed to name another mainstream CFB reporter who has portrayed ND as favorably.

Great article, but I am beginning to think that these guys have to write at least 1 paragraph bashing ND. It is a requirement sent down by someone higher up. I am sure of it.

yep, no doubt. we'll probably see him writing about them quite a bit in the future after Yahoo and NBC joined up for sports coverage.

Also has stood up for us after these articles hit the presses. The SEC trolls send him their hate tweets, and he defends us always. Slowly becoming my favorite college football writer.

Also, give his radio show a listen if you haven't. Pat Forde & Dan Wetzel show.

P.S:
Yahoo! Sports, NBC Sports Group team up - Sports- NBC Sports

Article on the merger between Yahoo Sports and NBC. Great news for sports fans everywhere.

I see that Alvin Hu guy from the article all the time. One time I was at LaFortune and out of nowhere he shouted to everyone in the foot court "GO IRISH! BEAT! THE! HURRICAAAAAAAAANES!!!!" The guy is passionate about the team. Good man.

Wow, that made me really nostalgic for my college days. There really is nothing like dorm life at ND. Every dorm makes an effort to make the place feel like home, so it's easy to get to know the other guys. And as you get to know them you realize quickly that you will never be around so many amazing, talented people, including the football players, ever again. And it's not like you are just around them ... you live with them, which allows you to really get to know them. A really great thing that most schools don't offer.

Always view Forde as reasonable and unbiased in his approach not just to college football but basketball as well. One of the guys who are on the always read list. Probably my favorite sports writer that I can think of off the top of my head.

Speaking of the Angry Mob . . . saw this come up on my YouTube subscriptions yesterday. Notre Dame is a miserable place in that it exists and I can't be there right now.

Great article. My life's regret is that I never got to attend that magical campus.

It's never to late.

I especially like the part about Romeo. That guy is going to be a superstar and he seems like he's a great guy too.

Good article, but it seems that half of the articles you read always have to mention Declan Sullivan's unfortunate passing and the suicide.
