Ok... will someone please break down the space we have left? (Show if Mattingly and James leave and if they don't)

I know this has been discussed, but every time I see one it's a different number. I'd like to know how much room there is at the inn.

Come Jan.26th, there won't be any room at the inn.

Except for Vanderdoes.

And Treadwell.

And AQM.

And Redfield.

And Folston.

Oh and Bryant.

Lol.

2-3 with them.

4-5 without them.

ND has two spots right now. Assuming Redfield and AQM have filled those, ND is essentially filled right now right. Obviously if Bryant commits then Jamel is more than likely going to decommit or will be forced to decommit with the academic pick set by ND. Mattingly decommits that setup for best avail player.

So seems to me that the staff in essence bought themselves some time here. To see how hard they are going to go after this kid.

I just think its amazing we have so much to play with here, in terms of bad a$$es.

Winning cures all.

And it stocks the cupboards with quality.

Imagine three seasons of this caliber of outcome...

Been saying that before the season. If you win, they will come.

Nothing is a done deal just yet.

Nothing is a done deal just yet.

However, Vamderdoes will be here the 26th of January.

That's a big development considering where he stood about three days ago, nearly mocking rumors.

To be honored by recruits who in the past may have shunned us after a rough season shows we are indeed heading in the right direction.

And not with just on the field production, which is the most important but also top tier recruiting prowess.

What about medical years? Also does that assume both Carlo and Fox will be back? I can't see the staff turning down Eddie if he wants to come...

His numbers assume that basically everyone realistic comes back and we have no transfers or medicals.

I can't see us not having back Carlo and Dan personally.

The tandem that have competed so aggressively together would be tough not to bring back considering their on the field success and experience.

I realize Grace is solid.

I think you're onto something with medical.

Although I do hope you're wrong

But with Tuitt and Nix being potential first rounders next year, Vanderdoes would fill a huge need.

This is all of my opinion.

ND isnt Alabama when it comes to medical and other ways of getting more scholarships. There is no need to stoop to that level. The only one in question would be Tate Nichols, seeing as Massa played in the Wake game.

When Jimmy said "medical," I assumed the spot was for kids who could no longer play.

Not Alabama bullsh!t.

And I certainly meant the same.

I also hope Heggarty will be cleared to practice soon.

No way they turn down Eddie ... if he wants to come and we have no open spots, then Mattingly or Jamel (assuming he goes through with plans to take other visits) will get dropped, I think.

This would be huge for ND to snag this guy...especially away from USC

Yeah I would never want to stoop to that level, I'm just unsure as to what's going on with some guys right now.

Transfers, coaches cooling on current commits, medical hardships, a lot can happen. If elite recruits want in, I'm under the impression the coaches will find a way.

I mean, the coaches can drop Mattingly and James right now if they want. The ball is in their court.

I am very high on sending Elston back out to see him next week. Keeps constant contact literally in front of him. Elston is a very underrated coach IMO. I think he doesn't get as much credit as he deserves regarding how well the Dline has been playing. Also its his future position coach. And from what I have seen from UND.com videos and other practice videos the current players really like him. Great move.

Is this with Cierre staying or going?

See Whiskey's post on this in the "What's the number?" thread. The number of spots left is not a simple question.

One way of looking at it: If Cierre and Slaughter both come back, we have 0 spots free ... BUT Mattingly and Jamel James no longer have guaranteed spots, so we at least have their 2 spots to give to higher-priority recruits.

Of course, Cierre and Slaughter probably won't be back, so we may have more than 2 spots to play with.

If Hegarty and Nichols have career-ending injuries, we might have as many as 6 spots left.

As I mentioned in that post, I think 6 spots is a maximum regarding realistic possibilities, and that only assumes one medical. If we're considering two medicals, we could get up to 7, but why stop there? We could lose both Martin and Watt to the draft as well, which might bring us up to 9.
