I think Malik is actually farther along compared to where Everett was at this point (as evidenced by his rapid transformation into a true passing threat from one season to the next, and his elite11 performance), and has the potential to be the best-fitting QB in Kelly's system that he's ever had.

Golson will be recognized by Heisman voters before all is said and done, and if Kiel sticks around for his shot he will be the best pure passer BK has ever had. However, I have a gut feeling that Zaire will rise above them all in terms of combing mental readiness with his athletic ability and throwing ability.

I don't disagree with this possibility.

I think Zaire has better accuracy than Golson at this point but doesn't have the cannon that Everett has. I also think Zaire is a better runner at this point and a little taller and thicker.

Everything I've seen about Kelly tells me that:
a]. he NEVER sets anything in stone way ahead of time as far as assumptions on who is going to give the team the best chance to win;
b]. he absolutely believes in competition for every spot on the team. Someone said that great players don't need competition to motivate them; Kelly would say that great players don't fear competition;
c]. there is one pragmatic which Kelly realizes that he must ultimately employ which limits the competition at the Quarterback position: he knows that he cannot give necessary attention to 4 QBs at the same time. Even in Spring he did not like having to deal with Rees, Hendrix, Golson, and Kiel. He effectively [while claiming otherwise] cut out Kiel prior to the spring game. By August he got a break because of the Tommy incident, and could concentrate on just two [which is what he wants].

This latter "coaching intensity" requirement will still be in play when Malik rolls onto campus. Coach will be juggling these pragmatics alongside his "psychology issues" trying to keep everybody in their right minds. But we can probably makes some guesses at how it will shake out --- Everett and Gunner will get the intensity while Tommy watches more [not needing it as Coach knows that he's already set for what he'll ever be called on to do]. Andrew probably gets minimal shots. Malik is treated like Gunner last Spring.

By this method, Kelly assesses whether Everett or Gunner is most ready to lead the team to wins. Malik slowly gets the gently presented idea that it's a good idea for him to get some eligibility separation between him and Everett. Kelly won't go into Spring ball FIXED on such a plan, but his strategic mind will prefer it.

I was the one that said that. In theory, there is an open competition but in reality that is just not the case.

Basically Tuitt, BJax, Z Martin, Watt, Nix (a few others I'm probably forgetting) shouldn't be having to battle for a starting spot next year. They are upperclassmen who have the experience AND physical ability to help ND compete for a NC.

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it is a rare occurrence for a starter/All American to be beat out by their backup.

Love Malik Zaire and extremely glad we got him. But if u watch tapes of both during senior years I would take Golson. Malik is coming into a great situation because I agree with others that Everett will be embarrassing defenses before he's done, Kelly knows it, and Malik will learn from it

Malik and Golson are not as close as people think. Malik is more of a URL threat while Golston is more of a pro set qb.

easy killer

I've said it from the beginning... he has a skill set greater than anything BK has had to work with to this point. If he starts to really understand how to beat defenses with his intelligence, rather than simply with his feet and arm, he will put up video game stats. Heisman voters love those.

And I think Zaire will be even better down the road.

I'm VERY excited about this kid's potential. He has surprised everybody with his great improvement in passing, and I have a feeling he will continue to improve.

Malik shot down rumors about contact with urban Meyer and a potential visit to osu with Sapp. Said his next visit will be January 12 when he moves in to ND.

Christian from ISD has a quote from someone close to Malik as saying he wouldn't go to OSU "if they gave him a million bucks". A poster noted that he must have seen the Clarett article as well lol.

Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl East Roster Breakdown

Malik Zaire, Kettering (Ohio) Archbishop Alter

A Notre Dame commit, Zaire was an Elite 11 selection (and one of the better dual-threat prospects there) and is rated as the No. 6 dual-threat quarterback in the 2013 class by 247Sports. The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder is a “gamer”, a tremendous student of the game and has displayed natural leadership skills every time we’ve seen him live.

Funny story.
Just a few days ago I was at work here in Dayton,OH at BestBuy...and this family comes in and I sell them a tv. I notice one of their more athletic daughters is wearing a ND hoodie and I ask if she's a fan. She said sorta, but that they were recruiting her for basketball. I said that was so cool and asked if she was considering us. She said maybe, since her boyfriend will be playing football for the Irish next year.
This gets my heart fluttering.(lol i know.) And of course I ask, who is your boyfriend?
"Malik Zaire."
OMFG!!!!
I said that was really cool and had been watching his recruitment for the last 6 months.

They were a really nice family, and if they do end up IRISH it will be a very welcome addition.
