He better room with Lou when he visits. That would be an awesome thing to see.

This is such great news! Really like this young man and think he is going to be a terrific DT for us in the not too distant future.

Fabulous and surprising news. Any idea who else he was seriously considering?

don't think there's anything to worry about ironman...could be wrong, but usually the visit seals the deal, so being committed before stepping on campus can only be good news.

I agree, but he even says himself in one of the interviews that he thinks ND would be a great place for him, but he won't know if it is the perfect place until he actually visits. Thus, I think he needs to visit before becoming a real firm commit. Not really worried about that not happening, but strangers things have happened.

class of 14 filling up fast...wouldn't it be something to be near totally filled up by the summer, like texas is at times. then just focus on eliteness down the stretch with a few remaining open slots.

I went to SAT camp in Boston and my roommate went to Poly. We hung out and talked about our schools and he mentioned a kid in our grade who was huge and every big D1 school wanted and it would be Notre Dame or Rutgers... guess that was Jay.

Sounds like a great pickup!

That offer list speaks for itself

Offers:
Notre Dame
Alabama
Clemson
Florida
Florida State
Ohio State
Miami
North Carolina
Oregon
Virginia Tech
Washington
Michigan
UConn
Rutgers
Oregon
UCLA
Temple

Pretty soon people will see that Notre Dame offer for a defensive kid and say "Damn...this kid must be good."

You know you are badass when a team offers you two scholarships!

Not to take away from the humor, but congrats Jay, you have made the right decision for the rest of your life by choosing ND.

Notre Dame projects Jay Hayes as a strong side defensive end with versatility to work inside. Hayes also had look from schools at O-line.

Yes. I think it also depends on how we do with: McDowell, Trumbetti, and Williams .

No surprise there. At 6'5'' - 270 lbs., I'd expect him to be more Tuitt than Nix.

Yeah, and once in a while you'll see a kid feel like he's missing out on the authentic recruiting expeience because he committed so early. No reason to think that will be the case here, but further reason for cautious optimism at this point. Knowing our coaches, though, they'll provide for a phenomenal visit, we'll keep on winning, and all will end as positive as things are today. Welcome, Jay!
