Where's those money makers? Anything worth reporting?

It's mostly commits. The only juicy one was Mackenzie Alexander saying that our performance shows why we are his leader. Nice to hear him confirm that he still considers us the leader.

This is what I figured it would be but interesting on Mack. Could change next week but as long as he notices whats happening in SB.

So here's where we're at right now, with the current class of recruits included. If we assume Slaughter, C. Wood, Martin, Watt, Fox, Calabrese all come back next year, and that no current commits decommit (as I did in the chart above), we would be at 83 scholarships in 2013, meaning 2 more available for this year's recruiting class. It sounds like AQM is pretty much a done deal for us, so that bumps us to 84 - 1 spot left. The general consensus seems to be that we have very legit shots at Luke, Redfield, Moore, and Alexander, with some feeling that we are trending up for Treadwell as well. Clearly, we can't take all of these guys (nor will all want to come). My personal opinion is that, in a perfect world, Fox comes back for a 5th year, Carlo does not, and we are lucky enough to add Redfield and Alexander to this recruiting class (along with AQM). What do you guys think?

You forgot about Eifert.

I can hope, right?

Slaugther won't be back. If we grab an elite player, Fox or Carlo won't come back.

I haven't always been that confident with his abilities, but I think Carlo has stepped up this year and has made some nice contributions (including the final stand against Stanford). I do realize that at this time Fox and Carlo are playing the same position, but I could see them both on the field at the same time next year. In fact, if roster size was not a consideration, I would actually expect it. Although our secondary is proving themselves quite capable this year, game experience is a big plus and I would tend to favor it over taking a higher-ranked freshman (in most circumstances), particularly at positions that we're not especially thin at.

That being said, I think we would and should take a combination of Redfield and Alexander. Just a feeling that I have, but it seems that most years we end up losing a player or two (whether through transfers, injuries, etc.). If that ends up happening this year, then there wouldn't be a problem at all.

Hahaha, I actually think about that year of eligibility he has sometimes, but he's such a done deal I don't think I've heard anybody even mention it in a serious manner this year.

Who knows? Wishful thinking: Manti has started a tradition of ND's stud players exhausting their eligibility.

Nice work.

Slaughter and Toma, though, won't be back-- they'll have exhausted all eligibility. So that opens up 2 more spots.

Feel like we will wind up losing Alex, keeping Danny, gaining Redfield, AQM and Folston, and adding another surprise / unknown name. Which I am more than cool with.

My fault. Totally blanked on Toma, knew he didn't redshirt just didn't think about it. Wasn't there some talk of Slaughter being granted a 6th year due to medical redshirt?

A little outside of the topic, but if Golson continues to progress and Kiel stays even remotely close to where you have him on this list he'll most likely transfer. Who'd blame him? With Zaire coming in, who's basically just Golson 2.0, I'm not sure how there'll be room/playing time for all of these guys, which inherently translates to transfers.

Mark my words. Kiel will be the backup QB next year and will play during the season... and play well.
