Hammer Time (Or: What once was Chris Hawkins' thread but now has to do with hammers)

This is ridiculous.

Dshans simply made ONE post correcting grammar... Which can just as easily be ignored.

GB, was upset by Wooly's posts from before (now deleted) and chose to go after dshans as well....

I sincerely doubt that dshans had any malicious intent with his grammatical posts. I would almost bet he was trying to be humorous as well as informative.

Also, GB, come on man, do better with those gifs, we're all Irish fans here, why mock someone like that?

Best part about this thread: Chris Hawkins' profile can go back down to the depths of the second page where it belongs.

I am getting the sense this thread might turn into one of ultimate cage fighting scenes. Anything goes?

How about dshans goes "Nolan Ryan" on GBdomer?

I just wish I was on my computer so that I could post a pick of Nolan Ryan kicking Robin Ventura's ***.

Dshans just got me going he did nothing like put me in a head lock and punch me repeatedly. Even though Ventura is the manager of my favorite baseball team.

I have been thinking about this for a bit. Wouldn't the actual proper term be Trawling? Setting your net, and scooping up anyone who falls for the bait?

Good grief, Charlie Brown!

"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
And whether pigs have wings."

"You mean there's a catch?"
"Sure there's a catch", Doc Daneeka replied. "Catch-22. Anyone who wants to get out of combat duty isn't really crazy."

Well, I know how to spell, and I taught grammar for years. And the dshans posts on grammar (and the grammar police on any board for that matter) are annoying as hell. It's one thing when I guy (or gal) has a post that is unreadable, but quite another when someone has a typo or is writing too quickly to notice that he typed 'your' instead of 'you're'. Or some people just don't bother to care, and if you understand the message, isn't that the point of message boards?

And then, as mods, we come home to threads like this, which turn into pissing contests over friggin' grammar. This is a recruit's thread, so it should obviously be a no-no to correct grammar and get the thread off-topic, but some posters never listen no matter how many times you tell them (in my own twisted mind, I didn't delete the posts because it's a USC commit and I can't stand USC, so his thread is whatever to me).

Just saying though, it's not just non-spellers that don't like the grammar police...

Most entertainment I have seen on this board since I have become a member and just for the record I dig GB'S post and the information he brings to the board but I must say I find humor in dshans posts, no matter how ridiculous they are

I find it funny that the only people that don't like Dshan's corrections are the people that can't spell.

The Grammar-Hammer has been part of the style of this place longer than any of the haters too. Just sayin'....

It's douchery....JUST SAYING.

Cut the pretentious crap, guys. So what if someone misses something from time to time.

If you wanna cut someone down, do it when we discuss football. Otherwise, you're just picking a fight and quite honestly, deserve all the hate that comes your way for being such a nitpicker.

So bash people for their views on Harrison Smith or Lane Kiffin going for two when the game was already outta reach.......Lord knows I got hoe-checked on those.

Actually "was " is correct. The subject of the verb "was" is "idea" not the content of the modifying phrase.
Sorry to troll.

If I had diagrammed the sentence like Sister Vilma taught me I would have recognized that.

Thanks '58 for responding to my question. I appreciate those who help distinguish this board from the Alabama, Michigan St, and Rival lowest common denominator type boards.

Notre Dame aspires to excellence on and off the field. The original owner of this site had that concept in mind when he established the theme of mature, intelligent conversation. Thanks to all who reinforce that ideal.

..... And I won't ever get those 5 minutes of my life back.....

It's an internet forum. To pull a completely made up stat out of my a$$, 99% of all grammatical errors on IE are made because people are trying to type the post quickly and get it out there into discussion.

Happy FRIDAY!

and

GOOOOOOO IRISH!!!

If we are willing to give up grammar, what else are we willing to sacrifice? Mathematics? Science? Or even love?

"nihilo sanctum estne?" Is nothing sacred?

The law is always hated until it is all but lost. So dshans, keep on hammering.

I am trying to do final revisions on my Christian fiction novel. Sounds like if I post excerpts here I'd get lots of help and finish way sooner than I thought. Neato!
