It's extremely tough to pull kids from California when USC, UCLA and Stanford are all playing well. Even tougher when call was good.

Will ND ever catch a break again at this friggin' position!?

Word.

Bennet Okotcha, Darby, Tee, Brian Poole, and all of the guys that have shown legit interest this year. Hopefully we cash in on at least one this year!

But you think we would be able to grab at least 1 very good true corner. Maybe '14 will be better for us.

I wouldn't mind seeing Delano Hill receive an offer.

This is looking more and more likely. Our current DB outlook is not great. The takeaway from Tunnel Vision this week is that we still seem to have a decent shot at Redfield and Mack, but who really knows. On the other hand, we definitely trail at least one school for each of Moore (UCLA), Luke (Texas), Hawkins (USC) and Willis (multiple unspecified schools). So what looked like a long list of interested prospects ahead of Hill suddenly doesn't look quite so long.

But who knows; things can always change. Hopefully we can make up the ground we lost on UCLA.

Our secondary depth is not as bad as some may think, but for the life of me, I cannot understand why we're not pulling in the elite DBs to go along with this front seven. It's mind boggling.

Well I sure hopes its UCLA's DB's that are bad and not their DB coach becuase they got smoked by oregon state and Cal through the air. Mannion threw for 379 and Maynard for 295 and 4 tds

Jackson - Junior (starter), 1 year eligibility left
Russell - Freshman (starter), 3 years left
Shumate - Freshman, 2 years left
Wood - Junior, 2 years left
Atkinson - Sophomore, 2 years left
Brown - Sophomore, 3 years left

It's not like we are desperate for early contributors at corner. It is more perception than reality that we are soft at corner. We have at least one more year with Jackson/Russell starting to develop the above players as well as the incoming recruits (Butler, Kinlaw...).

Shumate is a freshman this year too. so that would mean he has 3 yrs left

Something has gone terribly wrong here ...

I agree with the sentiment though. We don't need a corner to come in and play right away. That kind of player is really rare. Teo is proof that even physically gifted players with loads of potential are often chickens with their heads cut off the first year; Kelly has said it is apparent from watching film that Teo had no idea what he was doing as a frosh.

Getting a star CB would be huge for the future though. A little more star power at the position would allow us to do some different things defensively and take more risks that would isolate the corners. Right now we have to protect those young DBs.

This is his first of 4 years of eligibility. No point in speculating on whether the kid is getting a 5Y as a RS Freshman.

Per tunnel vision, looking like UCLA is the team to beat......

Not to pick nits, but haven't they always been the "team to beat" for Moore. I mean, it has seemed like us and them have been his top two for awhile now.
Or did he say UCLA is now clearly his #1?

Sapp is usually not super-clear, but I think it was not so much that UCLA has moved ahead of us into the number one spot, but that the BGI guys are predicting that UCLA will win out. They get the last shot at him, and they think that last visit will seal the deal.

Not as optimistic. We have done a great job moving folks, and making it work. We have not however run into a prolific passing team in my opinion that has tested our DBs. Regardless, some of these guys we are chasing are natural corners with lock down potential. I'm not saying our guys can't attain that status, but there is a reason why we moved a WR, RB, S to this spot. Don't get me wrong, I'm ecstatic that we have the athelets to do this, and I'm happy we have the front 7 to take some heat off of our DBs with so many young guys learning new positions. We can all thank CBK for recruiting flexible kids!

He had a good visit to Oregon St. this past weekend, and will be traveling to Norman to watch us take on Oklahoma this upcoming weekend.

It is an official and it is not just to cheer us on. He has serious interest in OU and his good friend and teammate Hatari Byrd is committed there.

I see ND shutting out Oklahoma and Diaco giving him the Uncle Sam "I WANT YOU!" point of the finger in the stands before walking off the field.

In all seriousness, this is a really good opportunity to impress him and/or Cole Luke. I don't envision our defense really being able to stop Oklahoma, but if perchance they do that would be mighty impressive to recruits watching the game.
