Lol. I don't think they are trolling. Just seems like a pretty elaborate scheme, to suggest to a neutral ESPN reporter that your son is considering decommitting based on an outstanding ND visit with the intention of effing with some ND fans that you'll never have any contact with and whose reaction you won't see.\

But anything can happen. After a few days of seeing USC tee shirts all over town he might remember why he wanted to go to USC in the first place. who knows

To come out of this weekend with these two kids in this position is exciting. Whether either come here or not. I think it shows something special is going on at ND when we can get this reaction from our enemies committs.

Especially because USC's class is terrifying. Getting these two would be +2 for us -2 for USC = Net +4. I'm sure they'd have no trouble filling those spots but it would be nice in the short term.

Another one (freebie) from B/R

Sapp of 247Sports.com, who cites quotes from Hawkins' father via Scott Schrader of FightOn247, Notre Dame made a good impression with Hawkins on a visit this past weekend:

“All we can say is Notre Dame has a classy program,” Hawkins’ father, Armond Sr., told Scott Schrader of FightOn247, noting that Chris would not be doing any interviews about the visit to South Bend. “He was very impressed with the coaching staff and the fans.”

Hawkins' father then went on to say that Notre Dame might be getting another visit, via Sapp's report:

“We’ll probably take an unofficial visit out there either after the Arizona State visit or the USC visit,” Armond Sr. shared with Schrader. “I’m going to give Chris a couple of days to think about everything and then we’ll make a final decision.”

"we'll make a final decision"

Sounds like a rock solid verbal commitment there. If we had a recruit talking like that, we would treat him as if he was not verballed at all.

His dad posted on USC's rivals site, under Chris's acct, that Chris will be a Trojan unless USC pulls his scholly (which is possible). Had flattering things to say about ND, but says Chris is still a trojan.

Remember when another parent said a certain commit would stick with ND right before he did not? Because I do.

ok get ready....

tweeted by ND Recruiting

Armond Hawkins, father of 4-star DB and USC commit Chris Hawkins: "Chris doesn't want to talk about the trip to Notre Dame because he doesn't want USC fans to take it the wrong way, but he loved it up there. He was born a Trojan and raised a Trojan, but we want what's best for him. We have to look beyond our faith and belief in USC and its coaches. I'll give him a chance to calm down first and by Wednesday we'll see if he's back to 'Fight On'. But on a scale of 100, this trip was 100.

Been thinking about this quote. What is the difference if the kid comes out and does an interview saying he loved it or if the Dad does it?

Weird question. Maybe Chris is more quiet than his dad, who knows.

...so apparently it didn't even take until Wednesday for the trip to wear off.

is this coming from Hawkins' dad or you just stating the obvious. Just asking b/c if the dad said that....wow.

seems like the moral of the story here is not to spend too much time worrying about this one b/c it's gonna be a soap opera for another 4 months.

I would say that USC has probably talked to Chris and his Dad and has probably threw out pulling the scholarship as a possibility. I think it's plausible that Dad is doing some damage control to keep the schollie from USC until Chris makes up his mind for sure. I would bet money though that Kiffen does threaten to pull his schollie if Chris and his Dad make another trip back to ND.

It is strange but do you get my point. Either way the kid is quoted as saying he loved his visit. If he does the interview he says it directly, or in this case, his Dad does the interview and indirectly Chris has said he loved the visit. If the point of Chris not talking was for damage control like he alluded to he should have just played it political. "Chris had fun on the trip and it was a good game."

I don't buy this. I can't see anybody letting that kind of blackballing occur to their kid, unless the offer was just heads and tails above the rest, which it's not. I mean Chris has offers from all over. As big of a ND fan as I am, if my kid wasn't sure about where he wanted to go to school, I'd tell BK to mind his business if he told me something similar.

Ok. There's just so many possibilities as to why his dad did the interview, it's not even worth speculation.

Chris maybe wasn't available? Maybe the reporter called and his dad answered? Maybe Chris is shy? Maybe his dad's over-protective? Maybe Chris was tired? Maybe Chris doesn't like the reported? Maybe Chris's dad is friends with ehe reporter? Who knows lol.

There is plenty on this site not worth speculation.

One of your many scenario's may be the case but his dad's quote was
Chris doesn't want to talk about the trip to Notre Dame because he doesn't want USC fans to take it the wrong way.

If he wasn't available, shy, tired, sick, with his girlfriend, away from the phone, on the sh!tter his dad didn't have to say what he said.

I just asked what your theory is then? With so many possibilities and absolutely no way of knowing at this point why Dad said it and Chris didn't, I don't see the point in bringing it up.

I agree with this. I understand WHAT your saying, but I don't understand how or why you think it matters, or why it was worth bringing up.

If I understand you you've said it's weird that his dad spoke for him and said exactly what Chris would say, and didn't play it political at all, which ruins the point of having dad talk for you. To that I say... Yep.

Why the delete then?

It was just interesting to me and I was wondering if anyone else would have any thoughts on it, which I see no harm in. I have no conspiracy it just seems pointless for his dad to make that statement then countering it with saying how Chris felt.

I mean if we are going to start having to have a point for everything then you should head over to the Stanford or Final play threads where they are still discussing if the refs got the call right or not when the game has been over for 3 days.

Because I could tell it was going nowhere and I was checking out, lol.

I know what you're saying about it being odd, but there's just no way we could possibly know. Whatever the reason, it's most likely irrelevant (i.e., Chris was busy, dad was available).

It sounds to me that Dad is really trying to control things and probably wanted his son to play at USC since he was born. As Chris has gotten older and started expressing his opinions Dad still wants him a Trojan but is giving some leeway to appease him, hence the visit. Chris falls in love with ND and Dad is now flustered that his son really prefers ND. Dad does a little damage control of his own, but knows his son really favors the Irish, so maybe he's starting to realize that this is Chris's life not his and the best thing to do is guide instead of control Chris's decision, so hence the possibility of another visit in November.

If he visits in November, we've got him hook, line and sinker.

Yeah, If he comes back on his own dime with his dad it's time to set the hook.

His Dad sounds like he is trying to keep his spot secured at USC while they sort through this.
