This is so impressive for a true freshman. Him and Bennet Jackson have shown what they are really made of

Yup. Several freshmen playing db at incredible levels. The overall defensive backfield has a chance to look better by the end of the year than last years.

And it is undoubtably because of the addition of Bobby Elliot to our coaching staff.

#NotreDame freshman CB KeiVarae Russell: "When coach told me in the film room I was going to start, I was like, 'Uh-oh.'"

Haha. Refreshingly honest. Love this kid's personality.

So far he has played good. Not great but he will get better.

I think as a true freshman recruited as an offensive player and who didn't play a lot of CB in high school he is doing as well as we could possibly ask for. The kid has the ability needed, as well as a great personality and confidence about him. Look forward to seeing him play and develop the next few years.

I agree with this statement 100%.

Agreed. Excited thinking about how good this kid could be if he continues to improve and gets to start all 4 years.

I think he's played very well. He's a crazy athlete and can make up for mistakes with his speed.

Now that Joe McKnight is being move to corner, should give Russell good info for how to adjust to the position.

McKnight was a dominant corner in high school though, and many thought that would be his best position at USC. Believe it was the DB coach there who tried pitching him he would turn him into a #1 pick in 3 years if he had chosen to play on that side of the ball.

Best part of this is that he does in fact have a lot of room to grow... and nothing has hurt us yet...

it's gone as good as it could have.

Stoked to watch this kid grow (along with the rest)

Just curious. Is the staff planning on keeping him at CB next year or will be return to the offense? He has played well thus far and has shown improvement through the first 6 games. I'm wondering if he'll keep playing the CB position even if we end up with stud recruits this year.

I would be very surprised if he is moved back to the O. I can't wait to see him with a full offseason at DB! He could be very special!

Yeah he's stayin put. I love the way our secondary is growing up right before our eyes. Helps to have the monsters up front for sure but it's been a very long time since I've seen our DBs make a play on the ball like these guys have.

IMO he stays at CB.

Can't imagine him moving again. We have weapons on offense. This kid is special and apparently a natural corner. Keep him where he shines.

He has been playing like a Junior at least. Hell, he's been more solid than the senior CBs we had last year most of the time.

Yea, this kid isnt changing positions. I suspect he will be a starting cornerback back for us for the next 3 years. I cant believe how much better he is getting week to weeek, I really took notice to his improvement in tackling from week 1. Great Job!

He's showing out better than you can expect most 5:s: recruits to do as a frosh. He has all the makings right now of an NFL caliber player and is incredibly far ahead of the curve. 0% chance he moves back to O.
