Let's not focus on something may not happen that is months away. Let's focus on Miami please.

Sherm....the team is completely focused on Miami...have faith in that.

We though, as fans, we can talk hypotheticals til the cows come home.

No offense brother...But we don't need to focus, as fans on a message board, on the week at hand.

That being said...

I'd rather lose the NC game and run the regular season.

That video is very sad. This guy might have jinxed his team for the next 20 years. Jeez.

It's not a matter of us, as fans, focusing on this week's opponent, like our focus makes any difference. It's a matter of us, as fans, not feeling like an *** if we wind up 8-4. At least for me. Been burned too many times.

This video makes me want to win this game by 80... I hope we run the score up on them.

I was cool and laughing my A$$ off at this piece of $hit up until this clown had the f*cking audacity to say "F*ck Manti Te'o"...Then I just got pissed...I hope he gets his A$$hole taken by 2 silverback apes, then swallowed whole by a burmese python before being spit out into the atlantic ocean where he is finished off by a gang of Great White Sharks...all after we beat Miami by 3td's

Sorry, I'm just a little mad after watching that video

What can one really say when the asylums AV room is broken into?
Every point he brings up on ND holds true for Miami as well. But ND isn't back, and yet you are going to shock the college football world to signal Miamis return? How can Miami be back against a team thats not back? Eh?

So confused.

We haven't even qualified for a low level bowl game yet. Yes we're 4-0 and things are looking good, but we have 8 games to go. Our season could turn on a dime or should I say our season could turn on 2 or 3 untimely turn overs.

Let's focus on beating Miami.

Friend...this is NOT a prediction, the OP isn't predicting that type of season.

My preseason prediction was 8-4. That's kind of what I'm already expecting. I'm not going to change my prediction...if the team does better than my initial prediction, then that's just wonderful.
Again, it's a hypothetical question that nearly every single one of us is not predicting.

I'd rather lose in the NC game than lose a game during the year and win the Fiesta.
In choosing between the two options stated...why would I feel like an idiot at season's end? It's purely hypothetical...

You could certainly feel like an idiot if you drink way too much green koolaid. This board doesn't seem to be the terribly unrealistic group.

Far too early to start this game. I want to see Golson take a positive step forward. I want to see Notre Dame dominate the trenches on both sides. I am pumped to see the D-Line back at full strength (with Day and Lewis-Moore playing at 100%) hurrying Morris and forcing him into mistakes. I can't see Miami running at all on our D and Morris and comapny needed a slew of NC State turnover to beat a really bad team by 7. Meanwhile ND will gash the Miami defense with big runs and mix in some passes...I have a feeling this will be the day that Golson hits Chris Brown on one of those go routes...the Hurricane d will definitely be blown away. 3 td win.

However to answer the question...if ND were to qualify fo rthe NC game, it will mean the team has taken huge steps forward, beaten OU and USC on the road and if that happens, bring on the Tide, I would be in seventh heaven to see ND taking on the best in a one shot winner takes all game. An 11-0 Notre Dame team will give 'Bama all they can handle. BUT there are too many hurdles to start talking about that. I am just hoping to celebrate 5-0 on Saturday.

Ha. Some of you guys crack me up with the "one game at a time", "worry about Miami" type comments. It's not like we are suiting up and playing in the game. We are fans, for crying out loud. Let BK, D-Boys and Diaco's beautiful hair worry about "pumping the brakes" and let your hair down sisters.

No harm in some pointless hypotheticals. It's all in fun.

NC loss for sure. We're not scUM, where our biggest goal is winning a conference or going to a BCS game. Go big or go home.

The PEN IS Mightier for $500, Alex.

I will respect the options offered and pick the Fiesta win, adding I would hope SEC#2 is the opponent. Plus I have a place to crash in Phoenix.

I'm with Wolly. I'd rahter lose in the NC. I think that would help recruiting more.

Wooly, the question was to get blown out in the NC or win the Fiesta Bowl. I'll take a BCS win over an embarrassing loss, even in the NC game. I'd much rather spend the off-season hearing about how ND is on the rise, and should they have gotten a shot, rather than have all of the doubters come out of the woodwork and parade about the fact we still don't belong. When in doubt, take the W!

A Fiesta Bowl loss gave us a #2 ranking in 2006. A Fiesta Bowl win? Yes please!

Also, completely depends on how bad we lose the NCG. Blowout and I'd go with Fiesta every time. Close... that's a tough one.

I can't stand all this let's focus on Miami bullshit. If you want to focus on Miami then stay out of this thread. It's a ****ing hypothetical question on a message board. Get over yourselves, internet coaches.

Everyone on here is guilty of predicting our defenses dominance over future opponents but god forbid someone posts a BCS bowl or NC situational question. How many people have filled up our future opponents' threads with predictions? What the hell are you so worried about?

Id take the Fiesta bowl win. End the season on a high note. Would be a tougher decision if you told me we lose a nail biter in the NC though.

I'll take the win every time. I'd rather be complaining that we got screwed out of a chance for a NC than be complaining about a loss for the entire offseason.

since i am fully aware of the fact that nothing i write on an internet forum can impact a football team 100 mi away from me ill go with a Fiesta win and a top 3 preseason ranking next year

I'm actually not looking forward to a high preseason ranking...this year feels like magic because we we'rent overhyped coming in. Can you imagine the size of the circlejerk if ND is ranked top 5 preseason??

I knew what the question was. I would rather lose the NC championship game because that means that we at least got a shot. Winning a BCS game is nice and all, but it is a consilation game. I would rather have a shot at the whole thing and fail then win some meaningless game.

I also don't think that winning a BCS game would have a better impact than losing the title game. Coaches can tell recruits up and down about "how close they are to playing for championships" after winning BCS games. But that is just being close, losing the title game means that you were at least at the show. If you lose the game you can tell a recruit that you aren't just close to competing for championships, you are there.

Nice and all? We've never done it. We could finally get the BCS monkey off of our back, rather than get blown out in the BCS title game. It'd be really, really, nice to not hear 'you guys have never even won a BCS game'.

Not necessarily. There have been BCS (non title) teams that won their BCS game that have finished with a higher ranking (and I'd argue, been closer to a 'championship level'), than some teams that get blown out in the title game.

It would be even nicer to hear "at least you guys are playing for the championship". Again, BCS games are completely meaningless. I could give two craps if we never won a BCS game. I hope for championships, not just good seasons. The day that I lower my expectations to bowl game wins is the day I quit following the game. There is no shame in losing the biggest game against the very best team, every other team in college football wasn't good enough to get there. At least we could say that we got a shot. We can say that we are relevant in the most impactful way, by saying that we were the second best team in the country. I'de much rather take a loss in the biggest game of the sport than a win in a meaningless bowl game any day.

You're making it sounds like the Rose/Fiesta/Orange/Sugar bowl is comparable to the Meineke Car Care bowl. BCS games are a bigger deal than you're giving them credit for. I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I'd rather me, ND players/fans, recruits, etc, look at ND and see us as a team that finally showed they can compete at a BCS level and maybe even wonder 'could we have won it all?' rather than 'we're close, but the 42-10 loss in the NC game shows we're not there yet'. I think that winning the lower-tier BCS game leaves the program in a more positive position than being blown out in the NC game. Agree to disagree.
