Besides the fact that this is awesome, I'm really starting to wonder how many kids end up in this class and how many 5th years get passed over? I know there are 28 available spots but there are some talented kids that are very interested right now! I would prefer to be in this position every year!

Imo usc would have to tell this kid to get lost in order for him to come here.

IMO, Redfield is a 5 star stud. Probably my favorite safety in the class. He is definitely a long shot but I do remember that at one point during his recruitment he stated that he talked in facebook to BK a lot.

I like Redfield a lot too but IMO Cravens is the safety in this class above the rest. Of coarse I will change my tune if Redfield flips haha!

Mission Viejo is looking very good this year as they always do...they got some transfers from Santa Margarita including a UCLA OL line commit two games into the season..With this new transfer rule its like free agency out here. Coach O from SC was at his game tonight

I hope he didn't rip his shirt off.

Note the 'lack' of italics above; that was by no means a joke. He's a fat, gross, lying, greasy Cajun POS.

Has he been to ND on an unofficial? Just wondering if he has ever seen the campus?

If he only goes to Chicago I don't see it happening. If he goes to campus I think it's possible. (As we always see every year, sometimes lightning strikes with kids who see the campus.)

Maybe it's Mission Viejo's bye week?

I bet he uses a official after the season.

EDIT: Just looked it up. It is in fact Mission Viejo's bye week.

Maybe he will. At the very least he will be at the U$C vs ND game, plus its on SCum's dime. As a previous poster stated, if he has legit interest then he might wait till after the season to take an official.

Not many 5th years are going to get passed over. Ill take a 5th year kid over a freshman anyday of the week and twice on Saturdays. Sure its not to get highly ranked recruits, but out of the highly ranked kids we got last year how many are starting right now? 1? Even Jaylon Smith isnt going to start next year. Ben Councell came in a lot better physical shape than Jaylon will for LB. And he is still behind in the strength game, and is getting their mentally. Jaylon struggles with getting off blocks, and will struggle to keep the edge right in college with out packing on some pounds. With 5 frosh LBs coming ND is going to need a Calabrese in there for a 5th year for leadership and exp at the minimum. ND is still feeling the wrath of Weis wasting freshman years for guys, bc that is exactly what he did with Zeke. How nice would it be to have Motta back for another year? Its never a bad thing to let talent sit and develop for a year. Look at Golson, he sat back for a year, and he is well ahead of the curve for being in his 4th start.

Wood- may go pro
Eifert- will go pro
Martin- hope he stays
Watt- hope he stays
Stockton- use your degree
Calabrese-?
Fox- hope he stays
Tausch- ?

I do agree that a 5th year gets you more production for his final year but if its Redfield over Carlo gimme Mad Max ery time! I'd rather have a chance to strike gold over a 5 year period than 1 who though is a solid football player isn't quite at the level you are looking for. I don't know though I trust what you are saying TP and you certainly know more about what goes on than I do. It's just what I would do if I were in BK's position. I don't worry about experience so much because at some point you just gotta trust what you have taught the kids in practice and let them learn under fire. Everybody has got to see there first playing time at some point.

I'm pretty sure Eifert and Tausch have no eligibility left after this year.

And there is no way Watt leaves early.

Thank you! From now on, it's about winning in the present; the more 5th years, the better (given that he is a contributer). Even if a player isn't considered 'elite' coming out of high school, I've seen enough to be confident in the coaches' ability to develop players.

I disagree, unless it's a position of need and the 5th year guy is a solid player. Pretty sure BK said last year it comes down to what's better? A player that can help you for 4 years or 1. I'll try to find the quote. But it does depend on the roster situation.

If councell and smith can handle dog, I was thinking if moving spond inside with that 250 lb body. And I agree with keeping the 5th yr starters. Martin, watt , Carlo and wood hopefully.

No you have to let Spond play his last year at Dog, no point in having him learn a new position.

btw, Eifert does have a 5th year available next year, but no one expects him back.

So how bad do we want Redfield? I think really bad. If the top 50 ranking isn't enough to convince you, watch his junior highlights. Total package. He reminds me of Slaughter, but possibly more athletic: he's tough and hard-hitting, but with the long legs and hips that scream cornerback. Seems to me he could play any of our four DB spots.

First, I would like to say we are getting ahead of ourselves at this point. At some point maybe this is a real issue but we currently have what, 3/4 spots open before we start talking about kicking guys out of 5th years.

IMO, if Brindza keeps kicking well Tausch is gone.

Fox, Martin, Watt, and Wood you take back with out a doubt. You can make a real good case for Calabrese being in that conversation as well.

As far as the 5 lbs coming in next year, you have to think at least one will show up ready to play.

Yes we all expect Eifert to bounce, but what if in the crazy circumstances he doesn't? Manti could have that effect right? No way you tell him no.
