sorry guys, Meat is great.... I love me some Cow, Chicken, Turkey, etc....

and in regards to commercial farming, I like milk too.

I'm not saying you shouldn't like meat. I still think it tastes good. I do my thing because I believe in it. When people ask me, I tell them what I think. When they don't, I don't.

Excuse me for my unprovoked opinion.

For further clarification, I was not responding directly to your post, I was responding or adding my opinion on the entire thread.

I have some close family friends that have a commercial farm in Illinois, and let me tell you, those Cows have it made.... They get fed multiiple times a day get to graze part of the day and on hot days, they are brought indoors under what they call BAFs (Big *** Fans) to enjoy the shade and cool breeze. I've never seen cows more babied.

lol

has anyone (especially those with a family and mouths to feed) noticed how expensive food (in general) has gotten in the last decade?

The inflation rating system the Fed uses doesn't take into account two things: energy costs, and food costs.

Sorta crazy, huh? According to the bigwigs we don't have inflation. According to my grocery bill.....they're "out of touch."

This is definetely the exception and not the rule. I have been to other cow farms (I grew up in the country) and typically milk cows are either 1) jam packed with hormones/antibiotics 2) kept constantly pregnant their entire life without painkillers. This isn't my opinion based off just what I saw at a family friends house, this is my opinion based off of seeing it firsthand and doing a lot of research on the subject.

I don't understand why people (not you goldandblue, i'm talking the thread in general) feel it necessary to post some random hateful post every 3-4 posts with nothing actually to add to the conversation, just random hate against those of us that want to know where are food comes from. If you want to ignore where your food comes from, if you don't care about how animals are treated and you don't want to change ever.... then why are you reading this thread to begin with? Go do something productive with your life.

Thanks Bob. I made a portabella sandwhich with olive oil and saracha last night. It was mighty fine. Ike's looks like my kind of place!

The diet is still going good. Feeling great and losing some weight as well.

Good Sully. I just sat down to a plate of vegan green-bean casserole with tofu sloppy joes. $hit is off the chain. I have lost almost 20 pounds and have kinda platued. I am feeling great and life is good, my man.

Here are the recipes to the two things on my plate. I suggest both, but the green bean casserole is one of my favorite meals period.

I'll not go vegan, but I might try some of these recipes. I copied them down and will search Wheeling for some of the semi-exotic ingredients. My ancient physiological system is mostly concerned with minimizing fast-release sugars [the sloppy joe buns will probably have to be deli-flatbread, for instance], and seems to tolerate protein of all sorts [my favorite personally-cooked meal is Ohgi uh Bokum --- spicy Korean Squid], but these recipes might help minimize calorie intake if I can discipline myself to make them to begin with.

Tofu tastes like whatever you marinate it in or cook it with. Without flavoring it, it's tasteless.

Do you hate all tastes?

Its a texture thing. sorry about disliking tofu I didn't know this was an issue so near and dear to your heart.

That's fair. Some people just really hate the texture. I'd recommend the extra firm versions. They aren't as slimy.

But, Wooly is right about the taste. Tofu is a chameleon. A good marinade and grilled tofu is outstanding. Better yet, marinate, cover with nutritional yest, and saute in a good sesame oil...add to stir fry and enjoy.
