What I have been impressed with is his ability and willingness to go over the middle.

He does look good just have to get the ball to him more.

has hasnt been 100% though... but yes, he is going to be our next #1 WR. Maybe not to Floyd's level, but we may not have a Floyd caliber WR for decades...

Go to guy is probably Eifert but hard to say that with one catch in two games.

if those 2 deep balls are thrown accurately to c breezy brown (wide open both times) we are annointing him the next ______ (insert great ND WR) at this point in his young nD career.

Easy killer. 2 deep balls doesn't make you the next anything.

Floyd's frosh stats:

48 receptions 719 yards 7 tds

forgot to italicize it....my bad...my point was how we and the ND hype machine, and others build up ND guys and often use hyperbole (see above "we wont see a floyd for decades", annointing daniels the #1 WR etc)

I agree the hype machine will be going. Hell we were hyping him from 2/3 sec clips during summer camp, myself included.

if you are poking fun at me, I dont know why...

Saying Daniels could be our next #1 guy is not that far-fetched... I gave a disclaimer that #1 guy doesnt mean Michael Floyd type numbers.

no not poking fun at you hoosier--i was saying (tryng to say) how we (you/me/nd nation) are always in a hurry to annoint the "next rocket", the "next floyd" etc

it didnt come out right, esp since i dint italicize frst post. thats my fault! sorry took it that way

I think DD is going to eventually be great, but I think he has a long way to go mentally.

If he Neal and Brown all hit their stride at the same time...

Well since no generation will ever have the same guy throwing them the ball why do we ever make any comparisons. Why do we keep stats? Emit Smith played in a different era than sweetness but he doesn't have an * next to his name in the nfl record book does he?

Can you honestly say that Daniels wouldn't end the year with better numbers if Clausen were his QB? Not saying it makes Daniels = Floyd. I just think it's a valid consideration.

Absolutely his numbers would be better but my comment was in regards to Chris Brown being the next Floyd because of two catches.

I personally don't believe in if he had this qb or this o line because you could say that about many a players.

Exactly. There were all sorts of knocks on Floyd last spring in scouting reports for only catching short passes and not getting YAC because he couldn't separate from defenders. Funny how he didn't have that problem his first 2 years with Clausen. The QB situation the last 2+ years is in sharp contrast to the previous 6 or 7 with Quinn and Clausen.

Leads the team in receiving with 12 catches for 207 yards (17.3 yards per catch)

He's our next 1,000 yard receiver, IMO. Not this year, of course.

I don't think Daniels or TJ Jones should step off the field. They are the only WR's who seem to consistently be able to make a play at this point, yet seem to spend a lot of time rotating with other guys and on the sidelines. Can someone explain this?

I think we have seen quite a bit of 3 TE sets. Cant have both on the field in that case. Even Koyack inside on line with Eifert and Hercules out wide. We saw that numerous times on run plays against Miami and Michigan. Once people stop putting 8 in the box we should see more of the speedy slots. If D's wanna stack the box and go man to man outside, I would do what kelly is doing all day long and put our TEs out there all day long.

The more I watch and the more I see, what Kelly is doing is not what he did a Cincinatti.

We will be a matchup nightmare once Golson can check plays. I also only remember a handul of times that Goodman was on the field. One of those was for a clutch 1st down against Miami and Golson never even looked anywhere else. He was going there the whole time. I fully trust Kelly after these 5 games. He is doing things to ensure great matchups, protect Golson, and eat the clock offensively, while our D just shuts you down.

By the middle of the third quarter, you could just see Miami frustrated and tired (and undisciplined).

I dont know what else to say but that for me perosnally, I am seeing a "TEAM" imposing itself on the others and constantly improving. We have yet to even unlock our deep threats and young speedsters. The DB postiion is becoming less of a concern for me as well.

imagine his dad doing strength and conditioning for us one day

what? Are you thinking of Amir Carlisle's dad? DaVaris's dad is a Director of Player Development with the Redskins. Not a strength and conditioning coach. But Carlisle's dad is director of strength and conditioning (of all sports I believe) at Purdue, former S & C coach of the 49ers.

Um Phil is a freak in the weight room. He's posted videos of himself working out on twitter and its gross. He has also said he would be interested in doing some kind of coaching in the future whether it be dline or strength and conditioning.
