I am hoping that the coaches impress on the players that ND-Miami used to be HUGE rivalry. Remember, Catholics vs Convicts was before any of these kids were born. I want to see this team come off the bye week still playing hard. Bye weeks concern me; it seems like teams can get rusty with that extra week off and get outplayed by lesser teams. I'm just thankful that the Irish are coming off the bye against a sub-par team instead of facing a team like OU or Stanford. Beat the 'Canes, Irish!

Like last year. We looked crappy against USC coming off a bye week.

Another week, another storied d1 program. I really don't see an easy game on this schedule.

i know the canes are down, but they are 3-1 with a solid running back. on paper we should have manhandled michigans dline and we had some trouble. i expect another knockdown-dragout. hopefully i am wrong.

So against D1 teams they have given up 32, 52, and 36? With an extra week to prepare I'm hoping the offense is looking a lot better.

I get worried before every game naturally, but I think Miami is getting overrated here. Michigan and Michigan State are better teams.

Looks that way, right now.

Hopefully it's a little chilly on Oct. 6th in Chi-town. Miami just seemed totally out of their element in the Sun (irony at it's finest for that game) Bowl two years ago. Tried finding some data on their record outside of the southeastern area but couldn't find anything.

With that being said the first two or three offensive possessions will be huge for not only this game but the rest of the season. If Golson continues to struggle early then it will look more like a trend then a fluke for #5. Gotta get him comfy running the offense early in that game because Miami may be undisciplined but slow they are not. Personally I think Golson continues his trend of looking a lot better away from ND stadium but he will need a full supporting cast to pull it off.

They had nothing to play for. They didn't give a ****.

They definitely looked frozen and miserable in the Sun Bowl. All shivering with their white ski masks on. What was that, like 50 degrees or so? Let's get some of that.

Here are my thoughts.

1. The team, as a whole, is very, VERY young. They have inexperience at a lot of key positions, and that shows. Those young guys, however, are very good athletes.

2. They lost their best player to dismissal in Ray Ray Armstrong.

3. The team relies on the running game to set up the passing game. I like our chances because they'll try all day to run into the teeth of the defensive front 7 -- a matchup that favors us.

4. With Al Golden, you know what you will get. Disciplined, smash-mouth football. The Canes don't do anything fancy -- they run at you, and then try to stuff you at the line. The offensive line will need to show up.

Notre Dame should comfortably win, but only if the offense stops getting in its own way. The talent at Miami is there, but it's just really inexperienced and plays confused at times. This is not a game to sleep walk through, as Miami can beat you if you play lousy.

Ps. My teacher knows there oline coach Art Kehoe. He has been there for every championship.

Heck, they could wear sumo diapers and brown leather helmets for all I care. Just win.

I think this is a completely different team, there is so much to work on and so many reasons to keep working hard at them. I understand the trepidation but this is a very doable opponent and EG, Cierre, Tyler and the rest of the offense, are I am sure tired of hearing about their woes. I think this by week comes at the perfect time to heal up and refocus. I know we get everyone's best effort and this game will be no different especially after the Sun Bowl. I think this team is about the process, and with all the emotion of the last two weeks if we did not have a by, I would expect a flat performance, I think this by comes at the perfect time.

While I agree that momentum won't be as strong as it's been for these first few weeks, I don't think it'll affect this team as much as it did last year.

Maybe it's the kool aid, or maybe it's the fact that this team is 4-0, but I just get a different vibe from this team than I did last year. I'm not too worried.

I think the extra week can only help the offense to get its sh!t together. I'm not worried about the D.

It can only help. KLM, Eifert, Nix, Daniels, Nichols get a chance to get healthy.

I'm sipping the Kool-aid (cautiously) and getting the same vibe. However, I'm still very happy that we are playing a lackluster Miami coming off the bye rather than Stanford or BYU. That's not even a knock against the Irish; I just believe that bye weeks can hurt as much as help. Rest and extra practice versus rust and loss of momentum. We can beat every team on this schedule, all things being equal. But still, one game at a time.

I don't know.... Manti looks frigging awesome right there.

I don't think they're bad at all.

the uni's arent so bad; its just the helmets.....not good

seeing that ND's offense is currently T-96th, yea, the offense needs to get going. The defense needs to continue to get better, but they are looking/playing great. T-96th and still 4-0? My mind goes to the stratosphere when I consider what position ND would be in if their offense was ranked even as high as 40th

I think some of the defensive players are banged up... especially KLM. Kelly made it sound like KLM was not 100% for the scUM game.

Just because ND came out flat last year, doesnt mean much this year... 1 time does not equal a pattern guys. I just hope they get the offense going and they put up 30+ points and get Golson some more confidence.

I've hardly noticed Kappy when he's been on the field this year.

Totally. A healthy Daniels may be the key to getting Golson on track. And Nix has looked borderline dominant at times , particularly against Purdue. Want these guys at 100%.

Miami's defense looks pretty bad. I'll be interested to see how they do against NC State this Saturday (Noon ET, ESPNU).

There is too much talent on the offensive side of the ball for that unit to look so anemic all season. I think they will break out and score 30+ points, while the defense continues its stellar play with constant pressure, multiple sacks and a turnover... or four ;)

ND 31, Miami 20. Score flatters the Canes as Kelly keeps it conservative down the stretch.

I am making my way from Toronto, Canada for this game. I am a big Irish fan, travelled to the west coast last year to see the Irish play Stanford. I am looking for a tailgate party to crash. To sweeten the deal a bit I am offering to bring some Canadian beer! Let me know if anyone can help me out.

Pretty much everyone trying to hype up Miami has had to use "last year" at some point in their argument. That says it all.

If ND wins this one and Stanford beats UW, watch out for college gameday to be in South Bend that weekend.

Chris Fowler tweeted the other day he's hoping for it and that it's been too long since they've had gameday in SB

Could be. Main competition will be #6 South Carolina @ #3 LSU and the Red River Shootout.

I've hardly noticed Kappy when he's been on the field this year.

He had 2 outstanding hits on Maxwell vs. MSU just as he was releasing the ball, to the point where I had to rewind the play just to make sure that it was Kap making that awesome move to get by their OL to get to the QB. I haven't watched the UM game on TV yet, but he's made some plays this year, no doubt. He's just not the sheer force that Tuiit and Shembo are...

Only thing with the SCar - LSU game is that they might be saving their trip to Baton Rouge for the replay of the "game of the century" from last year.

Couldn't have had a better time for a BYE. Work the kinks out with the O and keep this train rolling.
