I'm supposed to be afraid of a D that gave up 31 points last year, and we have a better QB?

I'm supposed to be afraid of an offense who scored 13 and are replacing Cousins?

No thanks, I'll give Bell a TD and Spartan Stadium at night 10 points.

My only worry is Cierre. Sometimes when you have had to sit out or miss any time you have a tendency to want to do to much instead of just make the play that presents itself.

I too, initially felt this way until I watched last year's highlights.

Robert Blanton and Hayseed had so much impact in that game, especially Blanton. Dude made his own highlight reel with perfect coverage on a few endzone passes, the trick play stuffing (that had the wheel wide open) and his interception.

I'm not saying we lose all solid secondary play but I think they were a huge reason we pulled away like we did.

If we can pressure Maxwell we win. I think that's the biggest key. Bell is going to get his yards but our Dline will not give him the chance to carry the team.

On the other hand, Cierre Wood had a very solid outing last year and it will be huge to have him back.. We can run on this team.

It will be close.. 20-17 ND.... again

Maybe we'll get a breakout game from Zeke and/or Elijah Shumate? I liked what i saw from Zeke, particularly in terms of getting his guys in position--looks like someone who understands the scheme and has found a level of comfort...and Elijah made some incredible plays vs purdue.

2 pick-sixes for each of them, please. from what i hear, Sparty's O is easier to score on than their D.

A lot of talk about how people expect Manti to be a monster on Saturday. I'm fortunate enough to say, what he's going through is unimaginable for me, so I have no expectations from Manti Teo. Having said that, I have huge expectations for the team, and more specifically the defense. This team LOVES Manti. I bet half of these players respect Manti more than they respect their own father. I bet it kills them to care so much about him but not be able to do anything about what he's going through. So I expect them to play like gladiators. For Manti. To come to battle as if they're battling for Braveheart, because if nothing else, they can try to win this for their leader. Go Irish!

I was thinking the same thing about the team. We really don't know how Manti will handle this, but I have a feeling the team is going to ratchet up several notches Saturday night. I have a good feeling about this game and the more I think about it, the more I think a 10 point win isn't out of the equation.

Or, other times you can have a player come out with A TON to prove and he has a monster game.

As far as the speculation on Manti this week, I can only talk from personal experience and I can honestly say, sport was the only constant through a tragedy for me. That was where I could lose myself and everything inside that arena was a constant and an escape from what was going on emotionally. I could just in essence, tune everything else out and focus on the game. It was a tremendous relief.

I am not sure if that is what will happen, but sports were the only thing that kept me going during a tragedy I experienced. I hope Saturday can help Manti with what he is going through.

That's a foolish way to look at this game. Have we learned nothing from the Purdue game?

Michigan State won the yardage 358-275.
Michigan State won first downs 21-18.
Michigan State won possession 32:28 - 27:32.
Michigan State won turnovers 2-3.

That was not a game Notre Dame dominated, despite the blowout score. And even if Notre Dame did dominate (like Purdue last season), the X's and O's and the ability of the players will be night and day compared to last year.

Only mentioned coach. No strategic talk. No insight on game.

2/10 Will not change my outlook.
Inside stategy and insight into the game is for you expert guys. I'm talking about what my eyeballs see and if Michigan State has any passing game to accent their power run game they win easy.

I think you should just watch the game and see what happens. What do you mean "this is not the type of game Brian Kelly was hired to coach"...he wasnt hired to coach games against top 10 teams? Against physical teams?

Let me tell you something, Brian Kelly was hired to win football games. Period. He evolved his system to fit his needs. Hes building massive lines to win sluggfests and dominate opponents. He's grown as a coach over these last 2 years, and I fully expect that to continue. Brian Kelly was made for primetime games like these. he loves the spotlight, is charismatic, and is as intense as anyone I have ever seen.
I meant this was precisely the type of game this guy was hired to coach. Glad to be wrong about a 1-1 start.

I love being the underdog here. Just so much easier to play when you're expected to lose by a TD. I think the wildcard in this game is going to be the officiating. Teams leaving conferences often get screwed by the officials; so keep an eye on that.

MSU does not have the offense to move the ball against this defense... if we 're healthy. This is the kind of attack that our 3-4 defense is perfectly designed to stop. KLM is a monster against the run. Nix, Tuitt can be dominant at times too. And the Shembo-Nix-Tuitt-Ishaq 4 man pass rushing front has a lot of promise. They're replacing Kirk Cousins and BJ Cunningham... and so far, their replacements haven't shown up to play at a high level. Bell was there last year... simply put, if you're not named Denard or you don't have an Alabama-esque OL or a dominant passing attack it is VERY hard to just line up and run the ball down our throat.

How do we lose? Lots of ways. We could lose the special teams battle in a close game... heck, the net punting difference between Turk and Purdue's demigod of a kicker was a HUGE factor even against Purdue. We're not going to be very successful if we have to drive 80+ yards for a score against their great defense; and our defense will have a tough time if MSU is constantly starting at their 40 or better. Turk, Brindza, Neal, our coverage teams, and our return teams (LOL) have to bring their A-game.

Another way we lose is turnovers. First hostile environment for Golson... aggressive, tough, talented defense. Along the same vein... mental mistakes. Failure to get plays in on time, bonehead penalties, etc.

All in all, I think we probably lose in Notre Dame heartbreaking fashion on the order of 17-13. Best case scenario? Defense shows up big and we roll 24-3. Worst case scenario? Coverage breaks down against some talented yet inexperienced pass catchers early... MSU builds a lead and then goes run-run-run... ND loses 31-7 with two missed field goals by Brindza and multiple turnovers from Golson.

Mark May just said that Bell is going to run over ND's Defensive line. I just dont see that happening.

I have zero respect for Mark May. I know a lot of what happens between he and Lou is for show, but how about some objectivity. Never does he have a positive thing to say. Get over yourself Mark.

I'll stick with my preseason prediction even though I've been flip/flopping the last few days. MSU 20 ND 19. This game will come down to one big play in the second half.

I'm not going to make a prediction, but I think we have a puncher's chance on the road. Would really like to see us start strong and get out in front. I know that is pretty generic and you could say it about any game, but considering our young QB, being on the road and the relative strength of their running game vs. their passing game, it seems extra important this Saturday.

i heard lou told him off. is this posted anywhere???

And I quote as best as I can (can't really understand him real well, and I didn't catch every word, only the good ones)...

"You know what I love about Notre Dame? They're going to ruin your night. You're going to be bitching and moaning all over this place."

Yes, he said bitching.

I'd jump in front of a bus for Lou. (He does it for us almost every week.)

According to this part-time analyst/ full time douche, EG will have two interceptions and be benched by half-time. He called EG inconsistent. May, Smith, and some of these ESPN guys crack me up
