The betting public moved the line from MSU -3.5 to -6.5 Biggest line move of the week. Makes me like our chances even more.

I am watching the 2010 replay now on the Big Ten Network...will turn it off going into OT, but I will say, that offense looks worlds different from this current offense.

Have been going back and forth all week on this game. I believe we should see more of an improvement in this week than after the Navy game because playing a more traditional opponent with bigger players. Have to win the turnover battle and special teams. Irish 20-16

I try to keep a cool head and not expect us to win this one. But I can't help myself.

Right???? I am so pumped after watching that. Something I didn't really remember that much from the game is that Blanton was in on just about every play defensively. He killed it that game. I hope we can get a similar effort from Jackson this year.

I just found out a few days ago that a guy I work with is a Sparty fan. I've been trying really hard not to do some friendly trash talking. This game could easily go either way, so we've agreed to wait until after the game to really rub it in each other's faces. My plan is to play the Notre Dame fight song ring tone I have whenever I get near him all next week. God forbid the Irish lose though, I'll have to pretend to be on the phone whenever I see him.

Unsure if it has been addressed earlier in the thread, but will this game be available online anywhere? I'm even willing to pay if it comes to it, but I am limited to only internet access and do not want to miss this game.

•Neither Everett Golson or Andrew Maxwell have thrown a touchdown pass of at least 10 yards.
•Michigan State is one of three schools to not allow an offensive touchdown and is the only one of the three that has faced a ranked opponent. The Spartans are allowing 225.5 yards per game this season, eighth-fewest in FBS.
•MSU cracked the AP top 10 this week. Notre Dame has lost nine straight games against AP top-10 teams by an average of more than 15 points per game. The last time the Irish beat a top-10 team was in 2005, when beat No. 3 Michigan. The nine-game streak is the longest in school history. The previous longest was seven games, from 1984-86.
•Notre Dame is looking to go 3-0 for the first time since 2002, when the Irish started 8-0 and won 10 games.
•The Spartans have played six night games since Mark Dantonio took over as head coach and three of them have been decided on the final play.
•MSU's ranking is its highest going into a game against Notre Dame since 1979. Then, the Irish won 27-3 against the No. 7 Spartans.
•Since the start of the 2010 season, the Spartans are 9-1 in games decided by eight points or less, including the OT win over Notre Dame two seasons ago.
Maxwell is completing 38.9 percent of his passes thrown downfield 10 yards or more this season. Le'Veon Bell, who could see a safety or two in the box. Bell is averaging 5.6 yards per rush when there are six or fewer defenders in the box, but that number drops by 2.1 yards when there are seven or more defenders in the box.

Will be at a wedding for this one. Mostly all MSU grads. He did do one thing right though...the groom requested a TV to be placed somewhere outside the reception hall.

Usually cutting up rugs at weddings, but my dancing will be consisting of the Irish jig in front of the TV.

Go Irish!

This will be the story of the game. I LOVE our 3-4 against this run game. I expect to see a lot of rotation at the DT, DE spots to keep people fresh. This is going to be Sheldon Day's coming out party.

I had a dream last night. We took Maxwell right out of his game from the getgo. Our defense puts us ahead and Sparty canna catch up!

The perceived struggle against Purdue.

But they knew about Purdue when they set the line at -3.5, -4. I don't understand the big point change late in the week. I admittedly don't understand Vegas's strategy to get people to bet, though.

A line will typically increase when the action on it gets heavy. There was probably a bunch of people taking MSU and the points and so Vegas adjusted to help push the spread a little further. Still don't understand why the jump didn't go over 7 though. If you are going to protect the casino, with people saying they will at least beat us by a field goal, may as well extend that to a touchdown as well.

A lot of talk about how people expect Manti to be a monster on Saturday. I'm fortunate enough to say, what he's going through is unimaginable for me, so I have no expectations from Manti Teo. Having said that, I have huge expectations for the team, and more specifically the defense. This team LOVES Manti. I bet half of these players respect Manti more than they respect their own father. I bet it kills them to care so much about him but not be able to do anything about what he's going through. So I expect them to play like gladiators. For Manti. To come to battle as if they're battling for Braveheart, because if nothing else, they can try to win this for their leader. Go Irish!

You did not just mention Spartans right now, did you!?

I have a fear that EG gets pulled because he isn't able to put a bunch of points on the board. Let's face it, Sparty has a very good D. I don't want EG to get pulled, just afraid it may happen. I worry about what happens next. I really hope Coach allows Everett to play the whole game as long as he is healthy.

If Golson can't make the reads, it's certainly possible. Kelly is going to make the best decision for the team, I have faith in that.

Golson played pretty well against a nice Purdue defense. I'm not too worried.

Let's all pray that the OL rebounds nicely (I'm expecting it) and the running game takes a lot of the pressure off of Golson's shoulders.

Nothing like a pre game 6 pack.

For the Irish to win, they’ll need to hang onto the football and control the line of scrimmage.
At this time last year, Notre Dame was winless and at the bottom of the NCAA rankings in turnover margin. After outgaining and outplaying both USF and Michigan, the Irish figured out how to lose two excruciatingly tough football games because they couldn’t hold onto the football.

Fast-forward one year and it’s a different story. Breaking in new quarterback Everett Golson, the Irish have won their first two battles, and have completely flipped the switch in the turnover category.
On paper, it’s a shocking contrast:

2011
Turnovers: 10
Differential: -7

2012
Turnovers: 2
Differential +4
