Ranked teams that lost to or struggled with inferior opponents yesterday:
-#8 Arkansas lost to Louisiana-Monroe. At home.
-#13 Wisconsin lost to Oregon State while mustering only 7 points of offense.
-#16 Nebraska lost to UCLA.
-#18 Oklahoma State got blown out by an unranked Arizona team that, the week before, needed OT to get by Toledo at home.
-#19 Michigan came extremely close to losing to Air Force... needing a 4th down stop in their own territory late in the 4th quarter to preserve a 6 point victory.
-#24 Florida really should've lost to Texas A&M.
So 6 of the other top 24 teams either lost or struggled mightily... with another 14 of the top 24 teams playing traditional "walkover" opponents... so only 4 of the of the top 25 teams played a legitimate opponent and did not struggle or lose. Those 4? USC playing Syracuse and struggling for most of the game and certainly not covering the spread. LSU trouncing Washington. Kansas State trouncing Miami. Georgia pulling away late in the 4th from Missouri who led them through the 3rd quarter.
So if all fans around the country acted like our fans... only really LSU and Kansas State fans would be "happy" with their teams performance. What a joke. In football, sh*t happens. It's true at every level... it's a unpredictable game. Kansas City beat the freaking undefeated Green Bay Packers last season.... one of the Saint's 3 losses was to the lowly TB Bucs... and every year there are countless upsets of teams much better than ND by teams much worse than Purdue.
Did I mention we lost a half dozen key senior starters to injury during the game? Sheesh. BE HAPPY! I don't know if I've ever been more happy with the mental toughness of this team than I was yesterday... in previous seasons, that's a game we lose 10/10 times.
