Props to Booker. They have him credited on Butler, Heuerman, Rochell, and now Randolph

A superb addition. We're loading up on linebackers and offensive lineman this year.

Randolph's commitment gives ND 5 LBs in the top 30 nationally at their positions for 2013. 2 in the top five, including #1. #FightingFront7

I just don't agree with this. Maybe at this point but I think Brown, Neal, and Ferguson will be just fine. And make us far from weak at the position going forward. I think Daniels will end up being good to very good and he has plenty of time left.

I'm with you that the players you mentioned look good but they are all in 2 classes and that's not good. I think kelly is spoiling people who haven't seen a deep ND team since Holtz. ND still isn't all that deep at many positions. Look at what exists at D-line. Most ND fans that I see who have commented on the dline think that ND is deep there. They aren't. But they are so far and away better than they used to be and Kelly and staff have done such a shockingly good job at recruiting in the D front 7 that it makes it feel like an embarrassment of riches. But look closer at who is there. Nix is draft eligible this year and is the only big time nose tackle or prospect in the whole program. Kona has 1 year remaining and is a good player. So if Nix stays, they are really good next year but have 2 NTs which is not enough. Springmann hasnt shown much, if he improves a lot then that position will be good but only for 1 year with no one else coming down the pipe right now. At DE, KLM is gone, Tuitt is dominant and probably is only here 1 more year. Day looks great, then you hope Jones comes along and then you've got Rochell and hopefully Matuska is a player. Hounshell and that's about it. Pretty average depth and talent is just solid once you get past the front line. Same with WR. You will have Daniels as a really good talent who hasn't shown much yet as a second year player, plenty of talent with Brown and Neal, good potential with Ferguson. YOu've got Jones as a senior who is a solid but certainly not elite player. That's it. Add in a pretty raw Onwualu and Robinson and maybe a Fuller or Kinlaw plays there. Doesn't appear to be any elite talent, but we will see. Point is, that's all your talent in young players with one decent senior in Jones. So they need to get guys with some raw potential and speed in there. That's my only point. Hard to keep perspective when Kelly is doing such a good job at adding talent but he needs to get the scholarship numbers to 85 and add plenty of malleable athletes at the skill positions.

236 lbs right now, HS coach expects him to be 245 by spring, raves about his pass-rushing and athleticism in space. TOTALLY could play CAT LB if there's a logjam at DOG.

Randolph Makes Switch Complete

Even before C.J. Prosise signed with Notre Dame as a member of the 2012 recruiting class, Woodberry Forest head coach Clint Alexander talked about the potential of creating a pipeline from Virginia to South Bend.

Construction of that project is well underway and possibly complete with 2013 linebacker Doug Randolph’s announcement of his commitment to Notre Dame today.

“I just think it’s a better fit for me,” said Randolph, who chose the Irish after decommitting from Stanford earlier this week.

Randolph becomes Notre Dame’s 20th verbal commitment in the Class of 2013 and gives the Irish five linebackers along with Jaylon Smith, Alex Anzalone, Danny Mattingly and Michael Deeb.

“There are some better things for me to be involved in and I think it’s just a better fit,” Randolph said.

He will join Prosise at Notre Dame next season and both will be joined by 2014 linebacker Greer Martini, who committed to the Irish this summer.

“That’s three in a row,” Alexander said. “I think three really great kids and special players who I think will all end up making big contributions.

“I certainly love Notre Dame and think it’s a great place, but the biggest thing for me is getting our kids to great schools. The attention that Notre Dame brings is great for all of our kids because it makes people realize that we’re starting to turn out a pretty good product here.”

Part of the reason for decommitting from Stanford was distance, but the opportunities at Notre Dame helped the Irish edge Virginia in the end. Randolph’s very close with his family and his parents support his decision.

“They’re very excited and they’re very happy for me,” Randolph said.

Randolph visited South Bend for the Irish’s Junior Day in March and it was clear Notre Dame made quite an impression.

“I really liked the coaching staff when I went there and I like everything about what they’re doing there and how they handle everything,” said Randolph.

Randolph remained in touch with 2013 Irish pledges James Onwualu and Alex Anzalone following the Junior Day and has also become close with other Notre Dame commitments throughout the process.

“I’m pretty excited to join the class,” he said.

The Irish are excited to have him.

“He’s very explosive,” said Alexander, who added Randolph now stands at 6-foot-3, 236 pounds. “He’s really grown a lot.

“I think they see some upside to him. He’s an explosive pass rusher. He’s very athletic, he’s long. He’s just high energy with a big engine. He does everything full speed. I think that’s a big plus for him.”

Alexander is excited about Randolph joining a talented linebacker recruiting haul.

“Doug is certainly an explosive, special type of guy,” his coach said. “There are some special things he does that some guys might not be able to do, where he’s just kind of that, I don’t know kind of that LT style. He can just do things that make you go, ‘Wow.’ It’s exciting.”

Great news! Welcome to ND! The defensive classes this staff have been putting together are truly impressive. I hope we hold it together and add some CBs and finish this class out top 5!

I love him at CAT anyways. This is a great day.

Great pick-up!

If he is 236 lbs. and growing, as his coach states, he could play pretty much any of the 4 spots in a crunch. We'll see where he lands.

Welcome, man what a 3-4 Defense we are going to have!!!!!

If these kids all stay committed, this is going to be sick! And with Mattingly too. Being from Washington State I was really excited about Mattingly, but with guys being able to drop down to DE and switch in and out. This is going to be flipping awesome!
