ND losing has been known to ruin my weekend but with age it has calmed a lil (except freaken scUM, bastards still get me) My life is pretty ND centered during the fall and even more so since I moved south and dont spend my Saturdays hunting in the fall. My wife (a cane fan) knew what she was getting into like Irishpat's and lets me do my thing and pretty much has conceeded both children to be raised as ND fans and the last two dogs have been named Zorich and Rockne.
This fall craziness was instilled in be my father and uncles. The only time I ever remember my dad dropping an F bomb was when my sister walked in front of the TV during the 88' Miami game... "Get the F--K OUTTA THE WAY!!!"
Hell even this passion and obsession/dedication follows us to the grave, at my bro's funeral he had a ND floral arrangment on his casket and "The Alma Mater" played at the end of his service.
To me this is a dedication that makes us true fans, I dont think I want to get to the point where ND losing doesnt effect my weekend, or I have a dog that isnt named after an ND great....What kinda a life would that be? Its all I know.

Every year i count the days down to the weekends i can enjoy watching ND football. my exwife didn't grasp my passion for them which who cares as i am no longer w/ her....anyways my fiance didn't even pitch a fit when she wanted to schedule our wedding on the Oklahoma game which i asked if we could do it the weekend of the BC game and we made the switch.....ANYWAYS i have gotten a couple invites to a wedding(decent friend but certainly not close by anymeans) and then a party to which i said to my fiance i didn't want to go...she asked why and i said about it being on gamedays...she said i could always just tivo them and said how could i allow sports to dictate my life... but to me...it's not the same at all to watch a taped game.....i wait all year for these 12 weekends and a bowl weekend to enjoy something in my life that brings me great joy..not only is it the game but its the whole game day routine i look forward to.......i mentioned this to a few people at work and they think i am completely crazy....i don't expect someone who's not as passionate about something to understand but does anyone else understand how i feel????

I agree with all of your thoughts...right down the line. My wife is a saint and understands the addiction/love affair our family has with Our Lady's University.

We have two family member weddings we were supposed to attend, but not gonna happen. Wifey said she'll take her sister instead so that we can watch the game. My son's birthday, my wife's, my brother's and my birthday all fall on a game day weekend and they'll all be planned accordingly.

Hell, we named our son after "Hunter" Smith (friend of mine at the time saw Hunter in a bar downtown while he was with the Colts and were in Cleveland to play, my friend approached him and described what a huge fan our family was of him and the University and my wife and I named our first born son after him. My friend said that he was actually very moved by the gesture.) My man cave has no more room for ND themed items.....We named our dog, Clover. My son's baseball helmet was made to look like the ND football helmet with decals.

Yeah, I have the same problem as you, Brah. But it's a good thing. :)

Haven't missed a game on TV since I was a child, and had no choice. I moved to Atlanta in 97 and have season tix to UT in Knoxville. I bring my TV, PC with Slingbox, aircard, etc to all games. If they are playing at the same time as UT, I give my ticket away and watch at the tailgate. When I traveled a lot (opening up international support centers, I always had my laptop with HDMI cable near wifi. And when weddings fall on game day,,, slingbox app on my phone. the only thing that would keep me away would be a funeral of someone very very close. Pretty sad, and yes, we care too much. I know I do.

Yep. I have gotten better about a loss ruining the weekend though.

I'm still not their yet. My family actually had to sit me down and tell me that it isnt normal to get so depressed because a football team lost. lol it was embarrassing.

My stupid GF's inconsiderate sister scheduled her wedding the weekend of the ND vs UM game. It's bullshit. This stupid family loves fall weddings, its outrageous. I made arrangements to have a TV at the reception so I can watch. A couple of the guys going have contacted me, and said thank you since now they can drink with me at the bar.

I think every guy has his passion. Some love NFL, MLB...etc. My gf designs clothes, and its an obsession of hers. Shell stare at a ****in zipper for 20 mins in awe. So, i just say...well you know how you love zippers, i love ND football. She understands.

see this is my concern about the wedding...its an outside wedding at a winery and she told me they would get a tv for me...i feel this is bait and switch...as im sure getting me a tv will be a major concern for the bride...

I could have gotten laid by this really hot girl this fall, instead i stayed in to watch the USC game. I had her before and I knew i would have her again afterwards..but the fact remains i turned down ****ing a hot girl to watch ND football. When my roommate heard he told people on campus i was gay. Didn't even phase me.

There's only one girl on the whole camppus I WOULDNT turn down for an ND game.

This is the main reason I love this website so much, I am a psycho, and so are all of you. My family are all ND fans, but when they really want the scoop, they come to me, and I usually have it thanks to you guys.

I am crazy all the time about ND games, and I will sometimes (alcohol consumption depending) let it ruin my day/weekend/decade. My wife is awesome about it, watches the games w/ me, doesn't judge, etc.....but, this season is our first w/ our little girl here. I am nervous/excited to see if it's still ok for me to yell/drink 6 beers in a quarter/ or go into Jameson depression after a loss now that the little one is here.

do i care too much for ND football

do i care too much for ND football

MY nephew got married the night of ND PITT in 2005. The reception was held in the American Legion in Mishawaka. Thank God the barroom was open! My wife and I came in and we said hello to everyone of we needed to.Then, I promptly walked to the barroom and plopped my fat *** in front of the BIG SCREEN and watched my beloved FIGHTING IRISH KICK Panther butt!!! I told my daughter if she got married other than the months of MAY JUNE or JULY ,she was out of my will!(she got married on June 16,2012)I got the best daughter in the world!!

That is why you find out the name of the reception and make the arrangements your self. Or call albo and rent a tv

Dude...every woman I know has more than 12 days a year that are dedicated to sh!t she cares about.

Hair, manni, peddi
Massage
Shopping (clothes/shoes)
General Internet browsing/shopping
General Girl lunches, dinners
Mom, sister outings of whatever flavor
Summertime dinner parties

Women Burn a Sh!tload of time doing things they like...

When you start to, even in a conservative way, tally her ****, the discussion stops, and she either watches with you or leaves you the hell alone...especially when you compare time, and the Money it costs to entertain her...ND football is Free, and its generally 50 hours of time to ourselves...

also something i just need to get off my chest....and my chest is big enough for les miles....I hate when people say they are die hard ND fans(like this new guy at my work) and then i start talking a lil bit about recruiting--and he doesn't know anything...so i talk about some position changes , injuries etc and he has no clue who they are...

this.. except I now found someone who is a bigger fan than me, and it's freaking awesome to have someone to talk to who texts me and tells me Will Fuller flipped.. lol

i know the feeling...its actually gotten better for me because of lowered expectations

This, fell in love with nd when my bro went there. That also coincided with the 05-06 run of maningful football in South Bend. Since then my youthful optimism had been pounded into a synical shell of perpetual 7-8 win predictions

Most of the Irish games start around 9:30 AM Hawaii time, leaving the rest of the day to focus on my HS football team.

Evening Irish games are a lil bit difficult. Thank GOD for that NBC Game app.

Navy game will start around 2:00 AM so my butt aint going sleep till its over......

WIN OR LOSE LOVE THIS TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ya'll I am sooo the same! My dad got me totally hooked and now I'm the main fan. Forums, email subscriptions, text updates, gear...first to know everything!
You all should see my get-up at work. I work as a server and I have Leprechaun pin for my lapel, a Irish lanyard for my swipe card, a ND wrist band, a clover pin... I even painted my hair green for St Patties Day.
Management doesn't like it but can't do nuthin about it :) ... I may paint my hair again for a game... great idea!
I'm also on page 151 of Notre Dame search on Ebay looking for cheaper gear for the 4 family birthdays coming up in September...though its seems I buying more stuff for myself than anyone

edit:what happened to all the red?

My girlfriend of five years (going on six knock on wood) got with me right before the 07 year. Like wildman, she didn't quite understand me when I said I was a fan. The funny thing is, she didn't really get to experience my fanhood for a full year, because (and I'm being totally honest here) I checked out for the the last 3/4ths of the 07 season. I don't mean I didn't watch. But I watched with a casual "at-this-point-who-gives-a-****" attitude. so she didn't get the full experience until 08.. And boy was she unprepared for that.

my girlfriend tends to think of me like the jimmy fallon character from "fever pitch". she is completely aware of my metamorphosis. which doesnt just include saturdays but every night after work of training camp, signing day morning, and every other snippet here and there.
not to mention but for the past 4 years, no less than two pilgrimages to the Mother Land.
she doesnt understand it, but is super cool with it. i got a good one boys. a good one.

PAND, we probably all care too much, but I really don't think you are being unreasonable here. DVR'ing the game is totally not the same ... First of all, during the time that an ND game is going on, if I am not watching it I am an absolute NERVOUS WRECK, and I can't relax until I get to watch the game or know the outcome, and if I find out the outcome before I get to watch the game (which is usually what happens, no matter how careful I am) then I feel robbed of the game-watching experience I treasure. It's not the outcome of the game that's important ... it's the experience of watching it unfold -- seeing the players and coaches act and react, anticipate moves, etc. -- without knowing the outcome.
