I think you guys are missing how the offense is going to look this year. Troy will be on the field more than you think. Not only can he turn over blocking sleds, he can block in space.

This.

Let's not over-think it. Troy was recruited by a lot of teams to play on the edge of the line of scrimmage and control it. That does wonders for the running game. He's going to be a sixth offensive lineman out there...one that can move exceptionally well at 260lbs, is ferocious at the point of contact, and can legally catch the ball.

Troy will play, barring injuries.

Goal-line 5 wide package of Davaris, Eifert, Troy, Koyack, Welch. Then Golson just runs it in b/c all defenders are flat on their backs.

Eiffert is basically a wr or a flexed te. Niklas will be our blocking te that can catch and koyack will be more of a traditional te. I see a lot of sets with all 3 on the field due to lack of wr's. Due to this wr and offense does not concern me. My only concern is how we defend 4 wide on d.

Wow. Thanks never heard that.

I think Niklas plays alot; he offers great versatility. I think and I'd like to see us run some hurry up/ no huddle to force the defense to keep the same guys on the field while we utilize our versatile guys. Run a play or two with 1 WR, Eiftert, Niklas, and some of Theo/GAIII/Wood with a power running formation then flex guys out wide and run 4 or 5 out wide- I think it could cause alot of problems for opposing defenses- even for the most talented groups.

I think Niklas could give us that versatility. (Others will too, but I feel Niklas is vital to something like this).

But I digress. Thanks for the update. Glad it wasn't a concussion- though eye injuries are scary as well.

I absolutely love this kids upside. I am glad it sounds like the health issue is at least less major than concussion issues. I hope he sees plenty of time on the field. I will definitely be expecting multiple TE packages alot if Niklas can play.

From what I'm hearing, Troy is pretty darn fast. We all know he is athletic. Comes down to his ability to catch. If he's even close to Eifert, he'll be the next big thing, and could also be considered a flex type. Just with crazy blocking skills. So at this point, I'm not comfortable in putting the "blocking TE" sign on him. Maybe early in the season, but if his ball skilz are solid, he's going to battle Eifert for the spotlight IMO.

Very nice if this happens with the WR depth/skill lacking this year. If Neal matures early, the thought of Troy, Eifert, and Neal lining up with any of our other WR's and RBs just makes me salivate. Mismatch heaven, and will make everyone else look better, not to mention making Golson's life a whole lot easier.

I especially like it at the goal line. A true 7 man front for the running game. 6-6 or 6-7 bookends who can also slip off a play action block and drag across the middle or run for the corner. Lots of flexibility and challenges for opposing DCs.

Between the 20's split either or both wide with Atkinson behind one and Riddick behind the other, Wood in the backfield. It's the equivalent of WR but you've got two towers backed up by players with hands and speed. Pump back to the back man then hit the big guy when the defense bites on the fake. Run a flanker reverse behind a lot of blocking. Defense splits wide run the miidle with the RB or QB. Again, lots of possibilites. We don't need the long ball often when they can use the field horizontally and vertically (height).

Thanks, BGIF!

Now for the third part: Watch Troy's junior (I believe) video's; that was the year he played some tight end. His senior year as a defensive lineman he had about a 70 yard pick-6, which he should have never have been able to make happen. Watch that few minutes of film, and I admit it isn't much, but tell me he isn't about the most athletic big man with hands you have ever seen. What was his hs coach thinking?

Bogs,

Believe it or not they had another great specimen at TE at the time. Troy was needed on the line badly. He also played TE on goal line and other special situations. Having watched a lot of his games in person since his sophomore season (SHS grad, not a creep!), I can say that he has great hands and is extremely smooth.

Can I just go into a coma until Sept 1st? Need this season to start already.

Thanks for the confirmation! And the info, although I just can't see topping Troy! Why don't you try your hand at poetry. JohnnyKillz and I have one going in the Lep Lounge.

I was asking myself in the shower yesterday who is actually my favorite Kelly era players. One few moments I wasn't checking in to see If I missed some news on IE? And It dawned on me how difficult it was to pin point an individual. However,Troy was the first that came to mind. This warrior started at olb on his 19th birthday for notre dame. He is something special and watching him reap what he is sowing will be a blast! Go Irish!
