I went to the end of ND's first practice today, just to check things out since I've never been able to do that before. Got back a while ago. Practice didn't end at 12:15 as they stated, more like 12:40 or so. So I felt kinda like a creep walking around, alone, waiting for practice to end LOL. When I tried to look into the practice through one of the holes in the fence, one of the 'watchers' (kinda like ushers) gave me a death stare, shooing me off with his eyes. Not one of my finer moments. Anyway, some thoughts and some pics (warning, I SUCK at taking pictures):

* Weather was great, kinda hot but breezy and overcast. Perfect for outdoor football.

* Lots of coaching going on that you could hear from the outside. Coach Martin has a voice on him. They were definitely going 11 on 11 at the end of practice.

* It was surprisingly easy to get right near the gates, and hardly any fans were there...maybe 10-12 at the most.

* Some guys were watching through holes in the front gate (from about 10 feet back) so I went to see too. At the end of practice, 11 on 11, Golson, Kiel and Hendrix got reps while we watched. Hendrix threw one awful duck. Unfortunately, I only got to see a few plays (and even then, it was hard to see), b/c the 'watcher' made us move to the side. Did get to see Daniels in there, Motta made a play (my choice for break-out player), Rees was in the back and didn't get a rep while we were there.

* Afterwards, the guys seemed to be in great spirits. No moping or anything, lots of smiles and joking around.

* The lineman stayed at least 15-20 minutes after the other players, so I didn;t get any pics of them. When I drove off I saw them coming off finally. Extra work maybe???

* Amir Carlisle, if he's #3 as listed, is TINY. I mean, no way in hell is he 5'10". And he looks like a boy! Total baby-face. His family was there, so it makes sense that this would be Amir:

* Manti and Coach Kelly walked out together, in conversation. Manti looks thinner, in a good way. For the millionth time USC fans, so much for the theory that Te'o hates Kelly:

* There was a boy, about 10 yrs old, who had a #7 jersey with him. He asked TJ to sign it, and TJ happily obliged. The kid was ecstatic. Love seeing things like that:

* Here's Toma, giving crap to Jalen Brown (on his right), for grabbing on a play in which Toma says he would have been wide open:

IMG_0180.jpg

* A couple pics of Kona and Tuitt. Can't believe how much bigger Kona is vs. where he was when he first arrived on campus. And Tuitt is just a monster:

* Sheldon Day, Louis Nix (also in great spirits), and Theo Riddick (thicker in person than I thought):

* This was pretty crazy. Right across the way from where they leave the practice field, outside, they have 4 HUGE tubs filled ice, where the players all ice down. So right outside, most of the team is right there for everyone to see:

* And Troy Niklas is as big as advertised. Holy hell that dude really is Hercules. Sorry ladies, I didn't get a great picture of him, but here he is:

Anyways, nothing earth shattering, but I thought I'd share nonetheless...

I'm going to be driving to Chicago from Toledo on Saturday, and have been flirting with the idea of stopping in South Bend to do this very thing. It's not frowned upon (other than actually looking through the fencing) or two creeper-ish is it? hahah

I've seen theo around campus and was surprised at how big he is too. Just absolutely ripped. Thanks for the pics though... Less than a month! Can't Wait!

Yeah, dude, you should do it. Why not? Definitely not frowned upon, you can cruise right up to the gate. My father-in-law recently retired from ND, and I used his parking pass to park pretty close, but other than parking, it's really easy.

And man, if you have bring a kid, you're golden! Some of the players, the first thing they did when walking out of the gate was seek out the kids right there to give them high fives. Everett Golson was one of them - he was all smiles as he walked out and he immediately found the kids. I can't wait until my daughter is older so I, errrrrrrr, I mean SHE can meet some of the players and coaches that we'll be watching on Saturdays.

So yeah dude, if you have the time, I'd totally do it...

NOT MUCH NEW INFO!!! But:

Soooooooo....my wife has a couple of leads for jobs at ND, and she had to fill out paperwork today for Human Resources. We were running errands with our daughter when we decided we'd all stop by ND for her to drop off the papers. I mean, since it was noon (and the football team was about to finish practice) who was I to stop her???

So we dropped my wife off at Grace Hall and went to the field. It didn't feel nearly as creepy this time since I had my baby girl with me. Not much this time, but when we were walking to the entrance/exit gate, there were some guys watching the practice through a small partition in the fence (oh, and it's not like we're right up against the fence looking through a peep hole. I was at least 10 feet from the fence). Anyways, I could see a TINY bit of what was going on:

* It was the very end of practice, and like BK has been saying, it was 11-v-11. And since it was the end, it was Gunner taking snaps. I saw 4 plays, and I was just lucky that the LOS was right where the crack in the fence was. Kiel was in the shot-gun twice and under center twice, which I thought was interesting. To me that POSSIBLY shows that BK will using his strengths and running the ball, even out of pro sets.

* On the last play of the practice, Kiel under center, off-tackle play for what must have been a big gain. Lots of people screaming "Let's go Cam!" and "Nice job Cam", which I'm assuming means Cameron Roberson. I knew he was back, but that's awesome that he's back and doing things on the field after that nasty injury. Most of us thought his career was over.

*#45 might as well be Darius Fleming. Holy crap that Romeo Okwara kid is big. I mean, 17 years old????? Incredible. He was playing with the 3rd stringers I presume when I saw the 11 on 11's.

* You cannot fathom how incredibly large of a human being Stephon Tuitt is until you see him up close. I know I've said this before, but wow - what a physique.

* The boys weren't nearly as jovial today walking out as they were Saturday after practice. Much more subdued, and probably tired as hell and sore as hell. Josh Atkinson was walking super s-l-o-w-l-y after practice. Not like he was hurt, but more like beat/sore.

* Then again, a bit later in the ice pools, they were hollering and whooping it up like you'd expect college kids to do.

* The linemen stayed late doing drills, so I can never get pictures of them. Speaking of pics, I had my 10 month-old in hands (my wife arrived just as I was finishing taking pics), and she made it nearly impossible to get good pics as she was trying to grab my phone. And I friggin' forgot to zoom in, so my pics kinda suck (plus I suck at taking pics, so there's that):

A man asked Manti to sign his daughter's #5 jersey. Manti looked beat and didn't seem like he wanted to. But then he came over and was super cordial to him and his daughter, and personalized the autograph:

Carlo signing an autograph. Wished him luck and he was really cool. Sounded humble and appreciative. I'm rooting for him.

I had to look this up, but it's Justin Ferguson. Bigger than I thought:

IMG_0205.jpg

Kendall Moore in front (I think he should get a little leaner - he looks bigger in person, but what do I know); Big Lou in the center, a lil' ol' Amir in the back:

Hendrix (look at the guns!) and Rees, flanked by Eilar Hardy:

Okwara:

I'm pretty sure this is Cam Roberson, but I forget. He is wearing a brace though:

*** So that's all I got, and all I'll probably have for awhile (unless of course, I get the itch to Wednesday, cause I do want to see what it's like when the media is there. And until I get hired to teach, I got nothing but time. And I do feel a helluva lot less stalkerish with my daughter there. And just cause I love her, here's my little angel. Until next time:

I don't think the player eating Cheez-Its is putting in enough work on the field.

Great job again NDinLA! Nice pic of you and your daughter too. Cute little Irish fan you have there. My little guy will be experiencing his first season this year.
