Phork likes to stir it up. Whether he believes it or not doesn't matter. I disagree with him, though, and say Martin, Cave, or Manti.

I believe Manti would be taken in the first.

I like to see preseason polls strictly for the fact that it pumps me up for football season. Ranked or not.

Ranking is one of the things that make college football so different for me. I love how there can be a #1 (even though its not always the best wtv) instead of just teams with the same record like in the nfl.

Oh, Lynch will be missed, like a rash on my ***, or crabs I couldn't reach. OK, I kid a little, he will be missed, you can't just replace his talent just like that. I don't think Lynch really had anything to do with us not being ranked in some polls. Kelly's inability to beat teams he should, especially in big games last season, on top of losing to teams he should have beaten, is the precise reason we're not ranked higher than we are

I know! Kelly's fumbled snap and interceptions are pissing me off!

Kelly was out-coached by Kiffin. But it was like stealing candy from a baby due to Kellys players lack of execution and focus. Both parties need to be better.

I hate this attitude more than anything in sports.

Yeah, the coach did this:

So much in sports is out of any coach's control, or even a players. Much of the game is just fortuna.

...This clip haunts me...If I had the power to ban it, I would.

And what does a blogger have to do with the game?...("fortuna") :).

Anyway...I am a Kelly strap (supporter). No question in my mind he is the guy.

Providing not one, not two, but three QBs who had moments where the game was bigger than they were...that bothers the HELL out of me. The one theme that is pervasive among the QBs that saw the field last year is they all CHOKED! Not all of the time, but enough in critical moments that to me, speaks to an issue... thats on Kelly to avoid/fix.

Its not like Kelly coaches the QBs or anything.

ya, and he doesnt practice snaps... Kelly can teach the kid all he wants, but if the kid makes a bad decision, not his fault...
Kiffin didnt out-coach Kelly, what are you smoking?

A pretty important part of coaching is having your players ready to go when the lights come on. We weren't. The Trojans were. Going down 14-0 early was at least as big a reason why we lost as Crist's fumble. It changed the whole tenor of the game and made us play from behind - not Rees' strong suit - all night. Same thing happened at Stanford.

I like Kelly, and I don't like Kiffin. But it's pretty clear who the better coach was that night.

Whatever. Barkley was their QB when we were widely favored going into that game. We came out flat. They punched us in the mouth. And we never recovered. Can't let that happen against the good teams.

Uh, yes, Kiffy did outcoach Kelly. The D gave up in excess of 200 yds. to an offense who was averaging just over 125 on the ground. A collapse against UM, and let's not forget FSU. Blame the QB's all you want, Kelly is driving the boat.

Win your first 6 games and they be ranked in the top 10/win the first 8 and they'll be number 3/win the first 10 and they'll be number two/win them all and they'll be playing for a national championship-its really that simple. With that said I see them going 7-5. Great kids/great tradition/tremendous university but after talking to some alums who are in the know-NOT IN MY LIFETIME-was the words used. For me its always GO Irish but now I have a realistic view. When you loose a guy like Lynch who was in school and part of the plan it says much more than anyone could possibly know. It means Notre Dame means nothing to this generation of young people.

i'm not saying Notre Dame will have a "bad" season - but i don't think this season is a "national ranking priority" type season. upgrades to the schedule, more QB nonsense, and a questionable-at-best secondary.

looking forward to seeing who does well and hoping for wins. reasonably.

As for being ranked, I would rather not be until we proove ourselves on the field. This season we need to focus on turnovers and silly penalties and winning the close games. Right now Im ok with not being ranked.

More importantly, we are #1 in the Independent conference!

On the other end of that, Michigan is a top7 (atleast) team. Ugh.
