What limited footage I have seen on Darvish was very impressive. I'm not happy that the Yanks were outbid. This kid has chops.

Couldn't agree more in regards to ARod. ARod is still owed $143M through the 2017 season (not including deferred signing bonus and "marketing clause" for HR milestones reached in a Yankee uniform). Trading ARod would be more than the move of the century. It would be a certified miracle.

He hasn't played in 140 games in a season since signing the extension (and only 99 games last year). His swing is noticeably slower (not all of this can be pinned on naturally declining reflexes at his age...his hip had to be a factor); he turns 37 this season and again he can't stay healthy.

The Yanks have three albatross contracts imho -Can't leave out AJ and perenial post season no-show Texeira- of the three ARod's is most harmful .

Hopefully one of these prized prospects of ours starts panning out soon.

Great person and great Yankee. Could easily envision him coaching or managing in the future if he was so inclined. Wish him and his family all the best. It was a privilege to watch him play for the past decade and a half.

Only Dickey and Berra have caught more games as a Yankee and Posada started out as a 2nd baseman.

I will miss him. I can't imagine him not being on the team anymore. He is a great person, with a great family and has always represented my beloved Yankees in a very classy way. Great career with the greatest sports franchise in the world. Thanks for everything Jorge!

Saw Posada play when he was just a "kid" in the minors at Oneonta, NY. I'm not a Yankees fan, but I am a baseball fan, and I have great respect for this man's career.

I don't not like the Yanks but i do believe after last year he was not treated fairly. Good to sim him move on. He was a very good catcher.

Would be HUGEEEEE for the Yanks. We have young, good depth at C but need stud pitchers. Love it if it happens.

Agreed.. I've always like Pineda. Plus I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have Montero catch so he'd basically be a DH

Yup. Sets up Romine to be the catcher of the future behind Martin.

So rotation for this year? They have.
CC
Pineda
Nova
Burnett
Garcia
Hughes

Makes you wonder if they have another move in mind, cause they don't really have a need in the bullpen

I knew we weren't going to hold onto Montero for too long. Pineda has alot of potential.

Yankees agree to trade Montero for Pineda - CBSSports.com

By C. Trent Rosecrans

So much for that quiet Yankees winter. New York has finally made its move for a pitcher, agreeing to trade for right-hander Michael Pineda from the Mariners in exchange for top prospect Jesus Montero, CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports. The Mariners will also get right-hander Hector Noesi, while right-hander Jose Campos goes the Yankees, Heyman reports. The deal is pending physicals.

Pineda, 22, went 9-10 with a 3.74 ERA for the Mariners last season, striking out 173 batters in 171 innings.

Montero, also 22, played in 18 games for the Yankees last season, hitting .328/.406/.590 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 18 games and 69 plate appearances. He started three games at catcher and 14 as the team's designated hitter. He also appeared in a game of the American League Division Series against the Tigers, hitting two singles in two plate appearances, driving in a run. In Triple-A, he hit .288/.348/.467 with 18 homers at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Montero has been seen as a finished product at the plate, but drew plenty of questions behind it. Many see the right-handed hitter as unable to catch every day in the big leagues and is better suited to being a full-time DH or first baseman.

Noesi will be 25 later this month and went 2-2 with a 4.47 ERA in 30 appearances for the Yankees in 2011, including two starts. Overal the he struck out 45 and walked 22 in 56 1/3 innings.

Campos, 19, went 5-5 with a 2.32 ERA at Low-A Everett, starting 14 games. He struck out 85 and walked 13 in 81 1/3 innings.

Pineda enjoyed an excellent rookie season with the Mariners in 2011, finishing the year with a 9-10 record and 3.74 ERA in 171 innings. The 22-year old from the Dominican Republic finished fifth in Rookie of the Year voting, and gives the Yankees an excellent young pitcher to slot behind C.C. Sabathia. With the Yankees' potent offense backing him up, Pineda should be able to up his win totals, though he will almost certainly see his home runs allowed go up moving from spacious Safeco Field to the launching pad that is new Yankees Stadium

With Pineda at 6-7 260 and Sabathia at 6-7 290 the Yankees better order another table of coldcuts for the post game repast.

Report: Yankees Sign Hiroki Kuroda to One-Year Deal - New York Yankees - NESN.com

by Mike Cole on Fri, Jan 13, 2012 at 8:43PM

The Yankees had been having a pretty quiet winter -- until Friday.
The Bombers continued the upheval of their pitching staff on Friday night when they signed free-agent pitcher Hiroki Kuroda to a one-year deal. The deal was first reported by YES Network's Jack Curry. According to Curry, the deal is worth between $10 and 11 million.
Kuroda, who will be 37 on Opening Day, is coming off of a 13-16 campaign in 2011. That record, however, doesn't fully indicate how successful Kuroda was. He through 202 innnings while posting a 3.07 ERA. In four seasons in the majors, he's 41-46 with a 3.45 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP.

A one year deal for Kuroda and a trade for Pineda makes sense both long and short term. CC- Pineda- Kuroda- Nova- Garcia/Hughes= strong staff next year. CC- Pineda- Nova- Banuelos- Betances/Hughes is an awesome, young, inexpensive staff for years to come. The Yankees have catching depth, and you know they will sign the big bat as available.

I don't know why, but I find it funny that they do this right after Jorge retires.

I guess we now know for certain Yankee brass's opinion on the viability of Burnett.

"1 Rival AL Exec: If the Mariners liked Montero so much, why not trade Cliff Lee for him? Pineda is worth more"

Oh, yes he is! Very excited for our staff.
