Sabathia won't get another shot at 20 wins. Reports say he's done until the first game of the playoffs on the 30th.

Hughes pitched 1-2/3 innings out of the bullpen Monday. He's pencilled in for another relief appearance either Tuesday or Wednesday. He's to be the long relief man in the playoffs.

^ Definitely not a surprise, but it's great to have this offseason's #1 priority out of the way.

Time to round out the rotation. With that in mind here's a list of 2012 Free Agents:

Cot's Baseball Contracts: Potential Free Agents for 2012

Guessing CJ Wilson will be a target, and I'm hoping for Chien-Ming Wang to get another shot. He had a pretty solid 2nd half with Washington last year.

Who are you guys looking at/hoping to acquire?

Yanks are bearish on Japan since Kei Igawa. Don't expect them to pay the posting bid.

why u say that because cashman has scouted him on several occasions(sorry) and is said to be very interested in him.

I can see them not being too busy. They'll have Sabathia, Nova, and Hughes. I could see them bringing Garcia back. Burnett has a toxic contract, so he'll be there. As much as it pains me to say this, I think he's okay in the regular season as maybe a 4th, but definitely a 5th (well, he's ok minus the 16.5 million payday). I could see them going after an Oswalt-type guy with a 1 or 2 year deal, which I would be thrilled with.

I don't think they'll be a player for Wilson.
C.J. Wilson -- 'Great chance' he stays with Texas Rangers - ESPN Dallas

This is a bad year for free agents, but especially pitchers. The only way I can see them bringing in a big name arm is by trade. And I think it'd have to be one of the catchers included with Nunez. I'm not sure I'd like that. They also have (supposedly) a couple big time pitching prospects making their way up, so I could definitely see them giving at least one of them a real shot this year. I think it'll be interesting to see what happens with Burnett. At his best, he's a legit number 2 starter...and at his worst, he doesn't even belong in the majors. I think if weren't for his huge contract, they would've released him. His inconsistency is maddening and, ultimately, something I don't think they want to guess on if having to use him in the postseason. I think they'll see how the spring goes and give him until about June to produce and be consistent. If not, I think they can him and eat the remaining money on his contract, giving way to young, home-grown starter.

I'd say pass...unless they could get them for next to nothing.

Rivera may have vocal cord surgery
November 29, 2011
By Matt Snyder

Yankees closer Mariano Rivera may undergo throat surgery to shave his vocal cords, reports in recent weeks have indicated several times. But since it's a non-baseball injury, Rivera doesn't have to reveal anything to the Yankees or the media, and thus far mum is the word. He supposedly had a doctor's appointment Monday to discuss a possible surgical procedure, but there isn't any further information
(NYPost.com).

Rangers posted the winning bid on negotiating rights for Darvish at $51.7M.

Some hot stove of a winter for the Yankees.

I'm ok with it, hopefully these teams are trying to out Yankee the Yankees throwing out these huge contracts-thus in change making the whole product weaker in the long run. I think the Yanks are starting to play their cards a bit better, and even though its not giving us world series titles at the moment, it will pay off in a few more years. I think the move of the century for NY would be swinging a deal to trade AROD and his fact contract. Dude is off the juice and looking like hes headed downward fast. Hopefully he can prove me wrong!
