this team saves my life as a sports fan. i love the yankees.

Indeed..

You see Ian Kennedy nearing 20 wins in Arizona??? I like the Yanks mixing in the farm system again. Even though we'll miss out on the occasional winner, like Kennedy.. possibly. He really hasn't proved it long term but he's having a nice season.

Montero debuting nicely.

Meh you just never know. Pitching in the NL west is a lot different then the AL let alone the AL east. Plus it's not like they got crap outta that deal

It's very true. The AL East has been known to ruin a career or two.

So the best baseball team that's ever been fielded is now only 3.5 games up on the Rays for the wild card. I will probably die of laughter if the Rays win the wild card(only of course if it's the Yankees winning the East)

Hopefully they keep Montero at DH for the rest of the year. Cause pretty much anything at this point would be an upgrade to Posada

I would love to see them totally crumble and fall behind either Texas or my Halos also... just for an added laugh

Jeter got another hit bringing his total to 3075. He needs 35 hits to catch Winfield but with only 15 games left he's not going to do it this seasson. He on a 12 hitting streak but he'd have to hit over .500 in those 15 games to catch Winfield.

Next year.

If he gets 20 more hits this season he'd end up at 3095. He'd then need 161 hits next year to pass Eddie Murray for 12th place.

Looking at the guys above him for the most part they played 1-7 years after their 3,000th hit. But many of them changed positions. If Jeter keeps his batting eye (hitting .296 for the year) but slows too much to be a shortstop where would the Yankees play him?

LF, RF, but I'd say most likely, DH. I think he's definitely still got a year or 2 at SS though. Perhaps he and Rodriguez could switch some as 3B and DH in a couple years?

If anything the following is an understatement: Rivera is a once in a lifetime talent.

Jete's got two more years under contract and a player option. I agree that he could play short for another two years, but I don't see him excersing his option.

Slight quibble as Hoffman is only about 2 years older and they're both head and shoulders above the others on the Career Save List.

You really think he wouldn't finish it out as a Yankee?

I'm with you. It's not like he needs the money, is it?

Plus despite his Hall of Fame achievements, how many teams would throw big dollars at a 40 year old infielder in the free agent market?

Sorry, should have elaborated a little further. I don't think there is any chance he plays baseball in another uniform. Shouldn't pretend to be in the guys head, but I think he'll go out on his own terms (leaving the option on the table) and retire at the end of the 2013 season.

Jeter understands legacy, and it means a lot to him. No way he doesn't retire as a (career) Yankee. As for my thoughts on his plans after 2013...just a fan's opinion and purely speculative.

Don't get me wrong, Hoffman is great in his own right, but he's no Rivera.

Hoffman gave up 2 postseason homeruns while facing 55 batters. Rivera has given up the same amount of long balls while facing 523 batters. Mo's career postseason ERA is 0.71 (in 140 innings) to Hoffmans' 3.46. Granted, Hoffman has a much smaller sample size, but the dominance Rivera has displayed is without equal...0.71 ERA is other worldly. Mo also has 42 postseason saves on his resume.

ND wins, Rivera gets 601, Granderson hits 40, A-Rod is back, drinks on me.

ARod hit a HR, Jeter legged out an infield hit, and Boston Lost. NY up 5 in the loss column over Sox with 12 to play.

Magic number is 8.

Tampa trails Sox by 3 in the loss column.

602!! Congrats Mariano!

Michael Kay probably said something very corny. I'll have to check the DVR when I get home.

Getting texts that Mariano is still on the mound and even the Twins are giving him a standing ovation.

Congrats to Mo.

And yeah Kay was a bit corny and annoying, but what can you do that's him
