we need an overhaul. Try to find a younger replacement at 3b. Swisher just doesn't cut it. Rest of the team is solid. I'd consider trading Granderson if the deal is right.

Pineda, Jeter, Mariano will all be back. We will be fine

Couldn't agree more on Swisher.

Who do you have in mind for 3B? Dante Bichette's kid had a great year in the minors, but just turned 20 in September. I really don't see any viable options out there right now (but I haven't put a ton of time into looking).

I really like Jeter but recognize he'll be 39. That's not a SS's age. #42 will be 43. Pettite had a great 1/3 of a season. Pineda is a question mark until he shows he can pitch. How is C.C.'s elbow? Can any of their catchers hit their weigh? Ichiro was a great pickup in a pennant race. Is he an every day player?

Kuroda is how old? Can Hughes cut his HRs in half and be a solid pitcher or will he slid into the abyss. Phelps has shown signs of success but like Hughes and Kuroda is inconsistent. Rafael has his bags packed already. He just needs his new employer to let him know what city to fly to.

I can Gardener hit now or has his surgery relegated him to designated late inning outfielder?

Tex and Cano are the only locks I see as starters in April.

Cashman has to look at what trade opportunities are out there. There's nothing in free agency. I think Ichiro is a more than capable replacement for Swisher. On top of that we need to sign a big bat to DH. Ideally a switch hitter. Enough of the 45 year old platoon situation. I know Ibanez had a great postseason but we need youth with consistent pop. I envision the team looking like this if we can get rid of Arod

C-Martin
1b-Tex
2b-Cano
SS-Jeter
3b--Aramis Ramirez??/Nunes
LF--Gardner
CF---Grandy
RF-Ichiro
DH-Delmon Young??

Sabathia
Kuroda (resign)
Hughes
Pettitte?/Peavy?
Pineda/Phelps

A bit of good news.

Mariano Rivera tells New York Yankees he will return for 2013 - ESPN New York

New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera has informed the team he intends to pitch next season, general manager Brian Cashman told ESPNNewYork.com's Andrew Marchand on Saturday.

"He wants to play again," said Cashman, who was informed by the reliever of his decision Friday. "I'll work with his agent, Fernando Cuza, on the details of a contract."

After he crumbled to the turf and tore his ACL in Kansas City in early May, Rivera, who turns 43 on Nov. 29, vowed he would return in 2013.

"I'm coming back," an emotional Rivera said in Kansas City a day after the injury. "Put it down. Write it down in big letters. I ain't going down like this."

However, late last week, there were reports Rivera was unsure if he would return next season.

The negotiations for a new contract could be a bit complicated. Rivera made $15 million last season, but even with the front office's utmost respect for him, it is unclear what it will offer him considering he would be returning after a season in which he pitched in only nine games.

In Rivera's place this past season, Rafael Soriano thrived as the Yankees' closer, converting 42-of-46 save chances. Soriano could opt out of the final season of his contract. Soriano's agent, Scott Boras, hinted that Soriano would choose free agency but said a final decision had not been made.

Not a fan of the Yanks at all, but I have such respect for Rivera that I'm glad he's coming back. It's been a pleasure watching him and Jeter all these years.

Andy Pettitte has committed to playing next year. One year deal worth somewhere between $10-$11M.

This is an injury where the injured, the batting coach, manager, and trainer, and Surgeon didn't know their left from their right?

I'm assuming this was a pain free injury as there was no mention of pain nor symptoms. What is the effect of a torn labrum on the left side of a right handed batter? Less "pop" in the hips resulting in lower bat speed?

Mattingly lost his "pop" but that was due to a chronic back problem. He had pain as well as lower production as symptoms.

Also, why is the surgery being put off until January? Shouldn't this have been done yesterday, last week, or the day after confirming?

Was management trying to keep it under wraps while they tried to acquire a 3rd baseman?

Strange.

He is done and they owe him a ton of money.

They actually might be good news. I don't know how MLB baseball contracts are structured but I would thsi would make a hell of an AFLAC commerical.

3 Days Old but didn't make it here.

New York Yankees, Mariano Rivera reach one-year, $10 million deal - ESPN New York

The New York Yankees have signed closer Mariano Rivera to a one-year contract, the team announced Friday.

The deal is worth $10 million plus incentives, sources told ESPN.

Rivera, who turned 43 on Thursday, will take a pay cut from the $15 million he earned in 2012.

The Yankees had been hoping to wrap up a deal with Rivera before the winter meetings, which start Monday in Nashville, Tenn.

Rivera was limited to nine games this year after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while tracking down a fly ball during batting practice in Kansas City on May 3. He is baseball's career leader with 608 saves.

Youkilis has agreed to a deal verbally with the Yankees. Hasn't signed. Still has to take a physical.

Word is it is 1 Year, $12 million.

If the Yankees keep signing young players like Youk, they're going to jeopardize their status as the Official Team of AARP. Contracts will no longer come with a paid AARP membership.

Jonquils and yellow bells are blooming in the Southland. Time for Pitchers AND Catchers. Yanks' report Wed, full squad on Mon.

CC says the arm which was "fine" last season feels better. No pain.

Jeter's ready. But is his 39 year old broken ankle?

Mariano is back only because Medicare said he still has a year or two to qualify. How many 43 year old arms win 40 saves?

A-Rod (who?) is on crutches.

The Yanks have no established Catcher.

Girardi thinks he has the AL East right where he wants them! (and Pelosi thinks Congress doesn't have a spending problem!)

Batter up!

I think Mo is the least of our worries. If he gets 42 or 43 chances he'll save 40 games. "Write it down in big letters".

The bright side of Jeter's recovery is that he broke his left ankle. The injury shouldn't affect his swing.

Pineda could make his first start of the year shortly after Jesus Montero gets the start for the American League in the mid summer classic.

Five more years of A Rod and possibly only one more year of Cano thanks to bad contracts and the self imposed $189M magic number. F*ck.

Oh and speaking of Montero..our catcher situation for this season:

They can not let cano walk they have to resign him. I really hope mo and heter come back at full strength and youk returns to be a good ball player because that is the only way this team does anything year.

This has been a quiet off-season for our boys, but I like it.

If Hughes can keep an ERA in the low 4s or 3s then I love our rotation.

Still not comfortable with Youkilis in pinstripes though.. might take a walk off or two.
