Chisox Sale To A Sweep

Chisox Sale To A Sweep

First time in 21 years, Sox sweep NY.

All 3 games Sox used the long ball for the win.

Wednesday Hughes pitched a very good game. Sale was better.

Jeter had another HR for the tie. Half an inning later Rios hit the game winner.

O's lost but TB won to close to 3 games.

NY off Thursday.

Friday N.Y. Yankees @ Cleveland 7:05 pm

Sabathia (12-3) 3.56 v Kluber (0-2) 6.27

CC is right off the DL

Kluber only has 4 starts, 18.1 innings allowing 26 hits and 7 BBs. A lot of baserunners.

I don't know. We joked about this early in the season when he was hot.

He did hit his 3rd HR in 3 days. And I believe 4th in 6 games.

If you look at his batting stats his B.A lags on the outside third of the plate. He's eating up the stuff over the middle or inside.

He's averaged 65 walks a season and has 30 right now; down from 46 last season and 63 the season before, where his batting avg. dipped slightly.

He's struck-out 65 times (81 last year & 106 the year before), the lowest amount of SOs since '95 where he appeared in 15 games and his stolen bases are down by 50%..

He's hitting the same amount of doubles he has normally and 0 triples, while doubling his HR total.

The stats don't assure me of anything.. They only leave arguments for both sides.

But, he has always had an impressive record on and off the field. I'll say this. If Derek Jeter tests positive for PEDs, baseball is ****ed.. The guy is simply the golden boy of the steroid era.

I too have looked at BBs and Ks. I also looked at the POs, Assists, DPs, and Errors. A couple of weeks or a month ago the DPs looked down. I haven't paid attention to game by game DPs but notice his total now is "in the ballpark". Perhaps that's just the ebb and flow of a season.

One thing I did notice but can't quantify for use is infield hits. When he was on a tear hitting .390 he was getting a bunch of infield singles. Ted Williams had a quote that you can't hit .400 without infield singles and he broke down the difference of what those "extra" hits mean to a B.A. This year if Jeter had 10 less hits (not beating out some of those infield singles) his B.A. drops 20 points.

Bottom line, I'm with you. "Say it ain't so, Joe"

He's also hitting .297 with 2 strikes this year (having a hard time finding other sources for this, but it's linked in the URL at the bottom).

Bayless:

“It’s not about hitting for distance; it’s about surviving,” Bayless said. “It’s about how quickly can you respond game after game after game. Bouncing back. Longevity. He’s played, at age 38, in 121 of 123 games; he looks stronger to me, he looks a little quicker to me. There was a lot of talk about, ‘He’s lost his range at shortstop; he’s lost his speed.’ Could it be natural? Sure it could be. I’m just saying he’s a victim of his game.”

Skip failed to mention that Jeter DHd in 16 of the 121 games he's played this season.

To the bolded segment...is Skip insinuating that Jetes suddenly has better range this year? Jeter's dWar numbers, not a perfect stat- but a good measure of a fielder's range, are his worst since 2007. Jeter has reached base 203 times. Take out the 40 xbh...he's only attempted 11 steals out of the 163 times he's been on first base. Shock jock Skip's "eyeball" test means exactly jack sh*t.

If you look at his batting stats his B.A lags on the outside third of the plate. He's eating up the stuff over the middle or inside.

You can say that again. Jeter's pitch location BA through August 21st:

Jeter turns others' mistakes into success - Stats & Info Blog - ESPN

I thought Jeter's response was perfect:

“What do you want me to say?” Jeter asked. “I ain’t getting involved with this, man. You can say whatever you want to say now, huh? There’s no repercussions.”

Who's the bigger idiot? a. Rick Reilly b. Skip Bayless

Yankees place Ivan Nova on DL - CBSSports.com

By Dayn Perry
8/23

The Yankees have placed right-hander Ivan Nova on the 15-day DL with inflammation of his rotator cuff. WFAN's Sweeny Murti reports that Nova will be treated with rest and medication and will not throw for five days.

On the season, the 25-year-old Nova has a 4.92 ERA and 139 strikeouts in 157.1 innings pitched. He's also given up the most hits, 179, of any pitcher in the majors.

To replace Nova on the roster, the Yankees are expected to activated ace CC Sabathia in time to start Friday.

Joba gets a reprieve. Phelps likely stays in the rotation replacing Nova now instead of C.C.

Nova was 1-4 , 7.28 ERA in his last 8 starts. There in a nutshell is NY's slide. Opposition hitting .289 with .508 SLG.

C.C. IS BACK!

C.C. IS BACK!

100 pitches, 7.1 innings, 1 run, 4 hits, 1BB, 9K.

Jeter two more hits. He's hitting about .360 since the midpoint of the season. 24 hits behind Willie.

TB dropped 3-1/2 games behind.

Tribe's RHP Justin Masterson (9-11), 4.73, faces RHP Hiroki Kuroda (12-8), 2.96, Saturday 7:05PM

Materson 7.55 ERA over his 5 outings.

Kuroda 1.39 ERA over last 7 outings.

NY loses in 11

NY loses in 11

Soriano blew the save allowing a couple of hits and a HR in the 9th. Jeter tied it in the bottom of the 9th. Lowe's wild pickoff throw in the 11th lead to the winning run.

Tex injured his left calf and is out for a week or two. So he'll probably be out for the TB series and both Baltimore series.

ARod was cleared for BP on Tuesday.

O's win, down by 3 in the loss column.

TB loses, down by 4 in the loss column.

Tuesday 7:05 PM Hughes (12-11, 4.15 ERA) v. Romero (8-11, 5.63)

My goodness, for ND the philosophy is next man in, this year for the Yanks its 'next man down' I know they have the largest payroll yada yada-but for them to keep the lead with all these injuries has been crazy! With Tex yea we'll miss the stick-but how about all the runs he saves with his glove, on hit balls but more importantly with his unreal ability to scoop balls thrown to 1st.

NY Opens 3 Game Lead

NY Opens 3 Game Lead

Jeter was held hitless but he worked a 2 out, 0 and 2 count, into an RBI, Game tying BB. An error on the following play allowed NY to eke out a 4-3 win over 2nd place Baltimore. Logan got the win in relief.

Granderson strained a hamstring. Right now he's day to day. ARod and Tex still out. Petitte making progress.

Starting to get a little worried

Remember our discussion on 8/15?

We rolling now

Perhaps.

Kuroda has stepped up but without C.C. there is no strength among the starting pitchers.

Home Run Hughes is inconsistent.

Nova needs an 8 run lead.

Garcia at best is a .500 pitcher.

Phelps just had a nice effort but he's a bullpen guy.

Pettitte was a pleasant surprise but he was only 3-3 and I doubt he'll be back.

NY has 13 games left against Balt and TB plus a series with Chisox and Tribe in addition to a bunch of games with Bosox and Jays.

IF CC is out or ineffective for a month all the Balt/TB would be over without him. A 6 game lead can evaporate easily if Kuroda is the only bettering .500 ball.

That was without the Tex and Granderson injuries.

Not sure how this is possible since it's a dome, but it just started raining sh*t inside the Trop.

Russell Martin gave the Yanks the lead on a solo shot in the top of the 6th and Kuroda just surrendered it on a solo shot to Wolverine look-a-like Luke Scott in the bottom of the inning.

Baltimore Bombers Back In First

Baltimore Bombers Back In First

Jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first. NY came back from 6-1 to tie at 6. Orioles didn't fold and went deep of Robertson and Lowe in the bottom half on the inning. O's had 6 HRs.

Joba pitched 1.2 innings allowing only 1 run to lower his ERA to a sizzling 8.71.

Jeter had another hit closing in on Willie.
