No reason to assess blame; Pineda situation is merely unfortunate - CBSSports

By John Heyman
4/25/12

Pineda's out for the season with a torn labrum. Yankee pitiching woes grow. Hughes got sent to the showers in the 3rd at Texas tonight.

Jeter remains hot. Opened the night 2 for 2 with a stolen base at 37. Hitting .430 but if NY doesn't find some pitching, Jeter can hit .860 and it won't be enough.

Here come the BoSox.

I looked forward to this season more than maybe any in my lifetime... and i am already to the point where i am ready for it to be over... only thing keeping me even paying attention is the fact that the season the Angels won the series they started 6-14... worst start in team history... they're about to match that...

:(

So Pineda has the Brien Taylor? F*CK

My thoughts on Darvish are back a few pages (from December). Would be nice to have that guy and Montero right now.

Jeter Hitless

Jeter Hitless

His hit streak is over, 0-4. BA plunged to .400
But in the bottom of the ninth with one out and the score tied, he worked a walk. He raced from 1st to 3rd when Granderson drew a walk on a wild pitch. Then scored the winning run on a passed ball.

Rivera got the win.

ARod's bat may be waking up, HR and a couple of hits.

Yankee starters are terrible. Nova was the man and he got hit silly last night bringing his era over 5, CC's over 5, Hughes is 8 or 9, and Garcia ...

NY second or third in hitting, first in fielding, and 3 from the bottom in pitching ERA.

BoSox won and despite their poor start are in the mix in the AL East.

and no 9th inning magic. NY scored 3 in the 9th but it was enough as Garcia gave up 6 runs early.

The Yankees' starting pitching began the day 29th in the majors with an ERA of 5.95, and Garcia's fiasco boosted it to 6.37, according to STATS LLC.

Oh, and the BoSox won again, .500. Still in the cellar but getting ready to vacate. Movin' on up.

Garcia has got to go. he's been terrible. They need to bring up one of the young guys or get another starter. I know andy is coming back but the starters have not been to goon this year so far.

Yanks lose again

Mo and the game to the Royals 4-3.

Jeter still smokin', 4-5, leads the AL with .404.

Nine hits behind Gwynn on the All-Time List.

Jeter got his 8th double of the season. He had 24 all of last year and this year is only at the 15% mark.

Jeter had the best April of his career this year and has raised his career BA by a point to .314. I doubt any major leaguer has ever raised his career BA before at 37 years of age.

No question mark needed. I don't know what Bonds career BA was in 2001 when he was 37 but he hit .370 that year and followed it with a .341 and a .362 before dropping to .286, .270, and .276 his last 3 years to finish with a Career BA of .298

How long before the juice comments start with Jeter's Renaissance? Or is he just focused on baseball and not Madonna, et al, this season?

NYC won Friday behind Sabathia's 8 inning and another Jeter multi-hit night. Hit his 5th HR one short of last year's total where he got #5 in September. Hitting .404, 7 hits behind Gwynn and closing fast.

Only Granderson 9, and Swisher 6 have hit more HRs for NY this season than Jeter.

NY wins 10-4

Hughes (2-4) gets a much needed win as he lowers his ERA to a sparkling 6.67. Made it to 6.2 innings big deal for him this season.

Jeter another multi-hit game. Opened with double to deep center than beat out a bunt to third, grounded out, then walked twice. 2-3 brings his MLB BA to .397.

Jeter trails Gwynn by 5 hits for 18th place on the All-Time hit list.

Cano (GS), A-Rod, and Swisher homered for NY.

NY Beats Tampa 5-3

NY Beats Tampa 5-3

behind Nova ( 4-1 ) and Ibanez(2HRs).

Nova gave up 6 hits in 7 innings with 8Ks. He lowered his ERA over 1/2 a run to 5.02 but two of the hits were HRs. So far this year he's given up 8 HRs in 37 innings, one every 4.6 innings. Last season he gave up only 13 HRs in 165 innings or one every 12.7 innings.

Last year he held hitter to .258 BA, this year he's at .340.

Jeter was 1-4, .392. He's 4 hits behind Gwynn, 5 behind Yount.

NY took over 3rd place and pick up a game on the rest of the AL East as they all lost.

NY Beats the M's 6-2

and move back into 3rd as Toronto loses.

NY got a good outing from Kuroda. Lowered his ERA to 3.56. Kuroda's 3-1 at home and 0-3 on the road.

Jeter 1-4 now 2 hits behind Gwynn and 3 behind Yount. Four hits and he takes over 17th Place on the All-Time Hit list. Right now Jeter's having a career year. At this pace he'd pass Molitor to take over 9th place. He's got 51 hits so far and there's still 80% of the season to go.

Less than a week ago Jeter was hitting .400 and nobody on the Yankees was within 110 points of him. Now he's down to .372 but Cano's jumped up to .308 and A-Rod and quitely built his BA to .297. Texieria is the only "hitter" still hitting his weight.

Russell Martin has been great defensively, but batting .179 is tough. Definitely below his weight lol.

Love the way the rest of the boys are picking it up though. Hope the old man Andy can come in and stabilize the rotation to some degree. One of my favorite Yankees ever. Total gamer.

Hughes looking like a pitcher as his ERA plummets to 5.50. Twas 6.67 pregame.

During the homestand, NY starters are 4-0 with a 1.31 ERA, 27 strikeouts and 11 walks.

Jeter with yet another multi-hit game to tie Gwynn on the All Time Hit List. Sunday his first hit catches Yount.

Happy Birthday, Yogi.

One of the best "bad" ball hitters in baseball history. There was no such thing as a "waste" pitch was Yogi was in the box. He could tomahawk a fast ball across the letters of his cap and just as easily 5 wood an ankle high pitch off the black into the right field seats.

Yanks 1-1/2 behind O's and Rays.

Jeter got hit 3,143 to move ahead of Yount. He trails Paul Waner by 9 and Brett by 10.

Phelps got the win in relief. Nova pitched 5-1/3 but left with a foot injury. He was hit in the 3rd by a line drive and reinjured the foot in the 5th. He may miss his next start.

CC (5-0, 3.51) starts tomorrow against Chen (3-0, 2.68)

at 3152. Got his 3rd hit of the night in the 8th, BA 3.48. Needs 2 hits to tie George Brett. Then another 30 to catch Ripken.

Pettite pitched 7 innings, yielding 7 hits, 2 solo HRs, 1 BB, and 8 Ks. The walk was the only man he faced in the 7th. His ERA rose 0.02 to 2.53

NY blew a golden opportunity last night.

NY blew a golden opportunity last night.

Could have closed to down 1 in the loss column.

Jumped out 3-0 with 3 unearned runs in the top of the first. Hughes couldn't hold it but the bull pen did after he was out as the Yanks battled back. Jeter had two opportunities to win the game in the late innings but didn't get the ball out of the infield.

ACamp got a walkoff HR in the bottom of the 9th for the win. @#$$

Jeter's 28 hits behind Cal Ripken. He's cooled down from his lofty .400 days but if he hits .300 for the season he'll pass Willie Mays for 10th place on the All Time List.

IF he stay hot AND healthy he could pass Collins and Molitor to take over 8th place.

...

Of his 52 hits this season, 40 are singles. Thus, Wednesday's singles-hitter discussion.

...

A total of 60 big leaguers had more home runs than Rodriguez entering Wednesday's play.

...

A total of 123 major leaguers had more RBIs than Rodriguez into Wednesday.

And 67 had scored more runs than A-Rod's 25.

...

When the Yankees do not homer this season, they're 0-11. When they do, they're 26-12.

Too much running in place, and not enough moving the runners along.

Your move, Mr. Rodriguez.

N.B. NY is now 37-12 when hitting HRs after beating the As 6-5. Cano and Granderson left the park. ARod was 0-3.
