I basically grew up my whole life from very young through Notre Dame years in West Virginia. It is a fine place to raise kids except for the very poor economy. People there are not illiterate stupid people. And they are straight-up folks who work hard, fight for their country, and are good neighbors. One of my brothers and several nieces went to WVU, a much better school academically than given credit for ever since the once-Chancellor of Carnegie-Mellon [I think it was] began upgrading it in the 1970s. There are always jerks who will act like braying jackasses when it comes to West Virginia. "We" are the whipping boys of a nation populated by persons who have to feel superior to someone, despite not working to earn it.
I am sure that my brothers can both out-think, out-work, out-compete, and even beat the hell out of any such wiseasses on this board. Fortunately, it is not possible to reach through a computer screen, so they are safe.
Concerning the anti-Notre Dame sentiment of WVU football boards: most of that really is the Big East "special treatment" situation, particularly that which allows us to "Steal" the Champs Sports Bowl once every three years or so. The old Major Harris fiasco is pretty much faded out in most hot-and-now emotional children. Obviously, my family, all WVU fans, do not share in any antipathy towards ND whatever. For that matter neither do people here in Wheeling, where ND gets more support than anyone except WVU and the Steelers.
