Can anybody see Charlie surviving if we stink next year also? He will be fired before the season is out if we stink again.

He won't have another year like this, he'll never have to deal with this ammount of youth and he'll never have to do so facing 8 teams that are bowl bound to start the season...

plus next year's schedule is so cake it looks like we'll walk to a BCS invite...

I doubt we will have another year like this. Unless there are massive injuries, suspension, or eligibility issues we should not only have talent but numbers. This year more than anything we are lacking numbers and experience.

In response to the question of will he 'survive' another year like this I'd say no. 25 years from now when the cataclysmic dust storms that sweep across the mid-west due to global warming and destruction of age-old aquifers force residents to migrate to safer ground, ND will have a poor season when only 10 football players are able to suit up to play. After finishing 2-10 against the nations toughest schedule, Charlie Weis will finally die of a heart attack having accrued 12 national championships during his tenure.

I would say that another year like this would mean his dismissal. His contract buyout is in the range of $25 million however. My contact in the AD said (a few weeks ago), that its unlikely they would spend that much to buy out a contract.

I have to agree. No more years like this one. Much to the press' and Mark May's dismay. Say goodbye to the losing after this year and say hello to seriously competing for the National Championship from here on out. We all just have to believe in our coaches and players and I think its all going to happen. Go Irish!

Are things really so bad that we are discussing having an awful season next year before this one is even done yet? Wow. And here I was thinking we still had a chance to win this saturday. Better get more beer I guess

yeah, three games into the season and it's over. I might as well crawl under a rock and hibernate for the fall.

Survival?

Survival?

Well, I never imagined that they would be this bad this year. The Irish haven't mustered even a shred of competitiveness. As a former coach, I hated to be on the losing end, but it was ALWAYS way worse when you team didn't compete. I believe Coach Weis can turn the bus around before the year is over.

The year is not over yet but I get what you are saying. Coach Weis will not survive another year like this one if this is as good as it gets. That being said I don't see another year like this for Weis. This year I think has opened his eyes and he will I hope have his team ready for whatever comes.

Coach Weis will resign before ND is forced to fire him.

He is playing a junior varsity against national caliber varsity teams so far. But he recruited winners who are learning. His staff is a bunch of winners who are learning. It is a shame that it had to sink this far though.

I agree w/ everything you say except the last line. Thoughts like that get teams in trouble (ahem ... scUM vs. Appl. State). There are "favorites", not "cake walks" in college football these days. Hell, even Duke has a win this year!!!

Bottom line, the 8 tough team stretch to start the season was too overwhelming for this young bunch!

I agree that it's probably a moot point anyway. This is really a one-time problem, i think, because of the total ineptitude of Davieham and their piss-poor recruiting. However, if it WERE to happen, I actually think Charlie would get one more year. I think his recruiting moxie, the ego and reputation of Kevin White, and the impact on the community of Weis would give him one last gasp. But if Charlie got fired, Im willing to bet White would too.

I would be seriously upset if Weis leaves before his time. I gained a lot of faith in him over the past two years, watching his offensive schemes with former coaches' personnel. As such, it will take a lot more than this for me to start calling for his head.

It would be one thing if I thought he weren't trying--but I honestly believe he is, and I honestly believe he'll work the team out of this.

IF next year is no better than this one looks to be, Charlie will have to give himself a one year "put up or shut up" ultimatum. The school almost can't afford tof fire him, given the ten year deal. It's a shame we ever got away from the "5 years and we'll see" tradition.

If this team has other year like this then maybe Charlie does need to be gone. After all, isn't the goal to have a winning program? Right now , we aren't even competitive.
There are some thing about Charlie that bother me.....the inability of the line to block.... even when Quinn was the QB we have up way to many sacks. Plus the defense has't been all that great in Charlie's first three years either. Plus if you go back and look at his record, what "Quality" team has Charlie beaten? When he was hired, I thought it was a excellent move....now I am not so sure. I haven't seen the progression you should see from a team that is expected to do be ranked in the top 10 on a consistant basis

The media, alumni, and it's fans a all calling for the coaches heads!!! It's not all completely their fault. There are the players also, these guys are great athletes. Why aren't they stepping up to the plate and playing the way their supposed to (and CAN). They went to ND with intentions of winning (SHOW IT!!). They haven't shown anybody that they want to win at all!! Where is the fire and competitiveness that these guys pocess? The seniors and upper classmen need to rally the our TEAM and take them to victory!!

Go Irish!!!!

TY has nothing to do with this debate. Unless your a mind reader you cannot possibly know why someone would want Charlie fired. I think my boy is gonna a turn it around, but this is his mess and he needs to fix it.

Team is young with the toughest schedule in D1

Team is young with the toughest schedule in D1

CW and the lads are learning together for sure and to have to play this schedule who would have known this would be happening? Anyway, I think it will come around next year. But I would like to see some more moxi out there because it is not there. Saw alot of players smiling during "Notre Dame, Our Mother". After another loss my friggin head and eyes would be fixed on the ground too embarrassed to look at the Irish faithful.

This team is full of freshmen and sophomores. Ty is the reason we are losing like this not recruiting 4 and 5 star players and all that. Charlie is just now getting the players it takes. But this year is hard to watch. We better make some serious adjustments before next season to contend for a NT every year. Coaching has got to get better and bring in 4 and 5 star athletes we can be up with U$C. We are going through a rebuilding period. We are a good 2 years away from the top of the food chain. We need to get Kamara, Neal those guys involved more. If this is the case next year then it's time to change Coaches again. Which I don't wanna ever do unless your name is Losingham or Freakin Davie.

Most expected a "rebuilding" season. Its the total lack of competitiveness that has been a shock. The possibility that Weis may not be *the guy* is unsettling. We all want them to do well, I'm just not ready to give up on the coach, even though I've doubted the preparedness this year. I think the offseason lawsuit and all was a huge distraction. I hope we can see our coaches outcoach instead of vice-versa from now on.

Charlie gets a pass this year. He made vast improvement this week, and ND will probably look better next week. If so, when it's all said and done, this may be his best coaching year so far at ND, considering the lack of players with ANY experience.

You want to believe that, go ahead. Look at Appalachian State's win over Michigan, you really think that Appalachian State has better talent than the Irish? It was great coaching that allowed Appalacian State to win over the goliath. We have lost games that we should have won and a good coach wouldn't make excuses to the media that the talent isn't good enough. Weiss is not good enough to make a team of average talent great like say a Nick Saban would, I say we get Nick Saban here at all costs.
