Heh. Well I will say that I am with you in this one. Next year will be when I think it's really time to grade Weis. He will have almost all of our players back with a years worth of time in the forge. 3 of the 4 classes will be top-10 quality and our schedule will be easier (if I recall correctly) than this year. Next year should be AT WORST an 8 win season since we have 3 decent games tops. We lose: A safety who has been pretty overhyped (he is good, just not as good as 2005), a tight end (our most stocked position - so stocked we lose top ranked kids young), a center (ok this one kinda sucks but he hasn't looked stellar this year), a running back (who has been VERY unproductive this year), and possibly Lambert (probably a nice guy but so far a BAD corner).

So yea I don't really foresee a rough 2008. We may even do better than 2005, unless some teams on our schedule really improve suprisingly. With this tough year behind us and some time to get the o-line up to speed we should start unranked and end in the top 10....assuming things play out and the coaching staff does what they know how to do.

Trust me, it could be a very long year...or one filled with long nights of victory celebrations.

In the 2005 debacle at UT, we came into the season noting many of the points noted above in the positive light, and we collapsed and the kids quit. So laugh all you want.

I don't foresee this happening to ND next season, For a few reasons. (Sorry, fans, none of them have anything to do with you)

1.) This team has been humiliated with regularity so far. They are most likely pissed off about it, which will lead to more road work, more time in the weight room, and more noses tucked into the playbook over the summer.

2.) Your Achilles heel right now is the OL. They will grow, and either learn to work as a unit, learn to master footwork and designed blocking schemes, or CCW will find someone who can. Georgia has 3 Frosh starting on the line, and they were made to understand that if they couldn't figure things out, then they would be keeping the Water Cooler company on Saturdays. This will happen in South Bend.

3.) QB, WR, and RB play will increase exponentially in quailty as a result of #2.

4.) The coaching Regime with Charlie, Corwin, is generally new to the game. The Tennessee staff had become complacent with dealing with a bad season, as for the most part they had never had one. They were satisfied with not getting walking papers after the season. You guys staff has alot to prove, and has shown they can gameplan like MoFo's on occasion.

5.) The Schedule: I haven't even seen it, it isnt as if i'm a fan of the program. But you guys seem to consider it easy compared to this year, so I'll take your word for it.

Anyone that has seen me post knows I drink the kool-aid (ND 28 PU 24, by the way). Anything less than 11-1 with the 2008 schedule would be unacceptable. Losing 3 straight years to Michigan and 8 straight to SC would be unacceptable in my book.

Sept. 13 MICHIGAN - W/L - Tossup. Mich is sort of in the same situation as us, just not as dire because they have and will have more upperclassmen than us. I say we win in a relative shootout.

Sept. 20 at Michigan State - W/L - Should be a W due to superior talent, but Dantonio is a good coach and this is at the usual trap game spot for what will still be a young-ish team.

Sept. 27 PURDUE - W - We should beat Purdon't like the worlds biggest drum

Oct. 4 STANFORD - W - See Purdon't

Oct. 11 at North Carolina - W - They might steal recruits but we should pummel them

Oct. 18 Open Date - Pardon me being dumb but I think this means opponent TBD - W

Oct. 25 at Washington - W - Heh, Ty. Wonder how much ESPN will try to make of this

Nov. 1 PITTSBURGH - W - Wannestache hasn't been good since 2004

Nov. 8 at Boston College - W - They lose Matt Ryan, but will be a decent team, just not great

I agree that next year will be materially better. Not necessarily because of the schedule, but because of the fact that a lot of these young guys will have a year under their belt. We lack experience this year. You see that in the number of penalties and other mental mistakes.

But, only 2 of the 4 classes will be top-10 quality. I no longer consider the 2006 a top ten class. Top 15 maybe, but definitely not top-10.

BTW....I'd be shocked if we are at USC's level by next year.

I agree...I do not think we will be at USC's level by next year. We win too many games and we will get put into a bowl game that we do not want to be in and get our a$$ handed to us again!!! I still think we go 8-4 or 9-3 next year and get into a good bowl, not BCS, and win our first bowl game in forever...2009 we come into the season ranked in the top 5 and make our run for a national championship!!! Is it 2009 yet?

I want to hear one of you step up and say that the team you are currently fielding is not worthy of wearing the Golden Helmets on Saturday. I hear a lot of ND fans blame Ty Willingham for all of Notre Dame's current woes. Then, you act indignant when anyone even mentions there might be a double standard for Weiss. Unless you are willing to look the players that Willingham recruited in the face and tell them that they are not worthy of wearing a ND uniform on Saturdays and do not deserve to represent the school/institution, you have no right to blame Willingham. I don't care who recruited them, they should be YOUR GUYS. The next time you start lecturing other programs about class, take a look in the mirror first.

How about you worry about your own program, whoever you root for. As fans it is our right to criticize in any manner we want, as long as we do it in a classy way and dont take shots at anybody individually. Who are you to come on to our board and tell us what to do?

The funny thing is, many people who criticize Weis don't seem to realize what an accomplishment it was to take those players and make them a 19-6 team. Those players, with a few exceptions were at the talent level of say a mid-level conference team like MSU or Purdon't. If you put ANY stock in recruiting rankings (I put some, but not all) then we really were hurting for talent but got by on superior coaching and excellent leadership from our vets like Quinn.

Well stated. The more I look back on the last two years' success, the more I realize that Weis was winning w/ smoke & mirrors. He had a horrible OL that led to BQ spending way too much time on his back. The defense was a sieve both years, yet they cobbled together 19 wins.

Would Samardzija have become a household name w/o Weis & his brand of offense? We'll never know. Would Fasano & Carlson have become AA-type TE w/ WR numbers to go w/ their excellent blocking if Weis hadn't come to South Bend? We'll never know.

What I do know is that Weis did more w/ less than most coaches in D1. Now I hear Todd McShay and others sticking up for Brian Brohm & his Heisman consideration. They put all the blame on Louisville's porous defense. THis is true, but Quinn NEVER got the benefit of he doubt when he not only had a porous defense but also a underachieving OL & the lack of any real running game threat.

Now Weis has to take his medicine for overachieving w/ limited talent the last 2 years. He has one of the worst depth charts in D1 as far as experience goes. This year is the one that will truly test our loyalty as I don't see them doing any better than 2-10. What gives me hope is the future of the current youngsters & what looks/hopes to be one of the best recruiting classes in the nation & in ND history (as long as recruiting classes have been ranked, that is).

Dodger that's a good comparison with L-Ville, although I would hope our D of the Early-Weis-Era (unofficially EWA) could hold off the god-awful Syracuse team. But the way it is/was treated in the media is a double standard. Man I hate ESPiN......
