First addressing the Allen ranking. Unjustifiable from 247's perspective. To have him ranked anything lower than top 50 is utterly ridiculous. The dude has the frame, athleticism and mechanics down to a T. From all accounts, he was excellent during the whole event. 247 must be taking the piss.

As for McKenzie, from what I've gathered on the ISD boards, he's trying to get his SAT/ACT scores up. ND is apparently compliant with him and investing to time and effort to make sure he can get admitted.

My prediction of 1-2 commits this week was way off. DeAngelo McKenzie might never have a commitable offer if his SAT/ACT scores aren't good enough. Donte Burton won't be announcing until probably September. Tommy Tremble doesn't seems to be announcing that soon either.

And I have no idea what Simon and Austin are waiting for.

I have no idea what's going on either. At this point, I wish they'd go camp out at Tariq Bracy's house and let him know he's the most important person in the class at this moment.

If WR, RB and DB stalls with players they want, you'll always have a kid who has 11 ints in his So/jr years, and also had a 1000 yds both rushing and receiving last season.

And he's a legit low 4.5's guy to boot.

Austin, Simon and Burton are expected to decide before the season starts.

I understand that. But unless Simon and Austin plan on taking other visits, there is almost zero benefit of dragging it out any further. Make your decision and play recruiter for the next 6-7 months. Commitments from guys like Simon and Austin could really get the recruiting ball rolling again.

Agreed. I don't understand guys not wanting to engineer their teams. Instead they let the lazy 5 stars simply sign with OSU / Bama / SC and reap the rewards.

And Burton said yesterday he won't commit until sometime in September when he can burn a few paid OV's, some names mentioned were Oregon and Ok State... makes sense to let them pay for him and Dad to visit.

Relax. This is usually slow period for recruiting. It will pick up again when season starts and guys make visits. Plus I don't think we are in a hurry since after we get these kids we'll only have a handful of spots and a lot of really good players won't be making decisions until much later in the process.

I'm not freaking out or thinking the sky is falling lol. I just want to know whats going on with guys like Austin and Simon. In late June, it seemed like everyone was getting the vibe that these two would be deciding soon and now there hasn't been any news on these guys in two weeks.

I'm confident they'll pick the Irish, I just don't know what they're waiting for.

Elko probably convinced BK to go into a holding pattern in recruiting WDE and CB... the defense is gonna be so good that Elko is gonna flip anybody he wants after week 8. Bama and OSU recruits aren't safe from Elko.

Same with Long and the WRs. After Austin, guys are gonna be knocking on the door to take the last WR spot or two when they see how deadly playaction will be in the offense.

IT'S KOOLAID TIME.

I think they are simply waiting for the right time. For each kid it's a different time. For example I know Austin is traveling with his HS team to camps right now so not the best time for him.

Remember when we were #2 in the country?

2018 Football Team Rankings

So the latest is, Lamb likes UCLA. 3 Star Tommy Tremble, presumed an Irish lock, took a visit to Georgia and now wants to open it up.

Kevin Austin was supposedly a lock to ND, but just can't get himself to commit to ND.

Houston Griffith said no thanks, I want to play for championships.

Cam McGrone is more likely to leave Indiana and go to Michigan at this point.

The 4-star OL from Minnesota has elected to visit USC, but has no plans to visit ND.

And 3-star Donte Burton, who had all of the Irish momentum going into his visit to ND, now says he wants to see some other schools.

Pretty sweet recruiting job this summer by ND.

I wish we would have started recruiting super slowly so you couldn't just bitch the entire summer.

Amen. A whiny list that could be applied to pretty much every school minus Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State is not truth telling. It's just boring.

The fact is, this class will rise of fall based on the season we have. Kelly is on the ropes. 4-8 was a disaster. He either turns it around or he doesn't. Everyone knows this. So what's the point of dwelling on it moment to moment like something can change between July 19 and July 20?

If Kelly turns it around, the class will finish very well. The base he's established coming off that bad season is excellent.

If he doesn't it will explode. Some of the commits we have will bolt. We'll get a new coach and see what can be salvaged.

But being a college football fan is not supposed to be enjoyable--no need to go looking for the worst angle. It defeats the purpose. This isn't real life. Levity is always in order.

Agree, this is getting obnoxious, and it's July 19th. I think most will agree, we can do recruiting summaries with out all the melodramatic BS.

Also, does he have new plans to visit USC again? Or what? He visited us in late May and the California schools in late June.

Yes, he's going to visit USC and UCLA Labor Day weekend. I don't think there's a set date he'll get back to South Bend atm

Even so. Notre Dame is a Catholic school in Indiana. UCLA and USC are in So. Cal. They are SO different! I would have preferred ND for the culture and atmosphere, UCLA and USC for the weather and night life. It's not rocket science.

If some kid in Minnesota is set on going to a warm party school, what does that have to do with ND recruiting? NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And for those who are keeping score, this isn't even close to a real representation of what is actually taking place with some of these prospects.

Donte Burton has been saying for a long time that he'll be taking end of summer visits, here is an article from Scout where he said he'll visit ND, Oklahoma State, and Oregon. Its from June 13th. We came out of the visit as the clear cut leader and he's doing exactly what he said he would, take other visits, shocker.

Notre Dame leads for Georgia cornerback - Notre Dame - Scout

Kevin Austin has always had an end of summer decision date (August). We are the heavy favorite and this has nothing to do with not closing, as again, he's always had an end of summer commitment timeframe. He's even so set on this, that he's not allowing National Champion Clemson Tigers to enter his recruitment, at this point. Similarly to Burton, he's just doing exactly what he said he would.

Koon's excellent work conveniently leaving out that McGrone is planning a mid-October commitment and visiting ND twice, as well as Michigan, before that happens.

Lamb is going back and forth on UCLA/ND and it sounds like it's happening on an almost daily basis. Cali kid staying in Cali, not much else we could do. Staff went all out for him. Elko and Lea blew his socks off. He's on record saying he's never had a coach/player conversation/presentation of that magnitude. If he goes to UCLA, the deciding factor won't be ND's lack of recruiting, but that UCLA, well, it's in California.

We know he will come back though. It's just a much easier trip for him than LA.

As to Lamb the only thing missing in his recruitment is a game day experience at ND. If we get him here on a visit it'll blow away any UCLA home game. Chances to land him go way up.

And wasn't the staff out-of-town because of Bob Elliot's funeral?

Correct though Todd Lyght made it back to campus before the Burton's left. And Kelly spoke to him by phone a few times while he was on campus. I'd be shocked if Burton ends up anywhere but ND.
