What’s the point of playing any more games?

I think in order to qualify for the BiG C game, you have to play six. However, I'd assume a 7-0 Wisconsin gets in and OSU doesn't.

Looking at the potential playoff candidates and number of games:

Notre Dame:
8 games played
4 remaining - @ UNC, Syracuse, @ Wake, ACC Title

Clemson:
8 games played
4 remaining - @ FSU, Pitt, @ V Tech, ACC Title

Florida:
6 games played
5 remaining - @ Vandy, Kentucky, @ Tennessee, LSU, SEC Title

Alabama:
6 games played
4 remaining - Kentucky, Auburn, @ Arkansas, SEC Title

Texas A&M:
6 games played
3/4 remaining - LSU, @ Auburn, @ Tennessee, If Bama loses 2 of remaining 3, SEC Title

Georgia:
6 games played
3/4 remaining - Miss St, @ S Carolina, Vandy, If Florida loses 2 of remaining 4, SEC Title

Indiana:
4 games played
5 games remaining - @ Ohio St, Maryland, @ Wisconsin, Purdue, BIG Title

Northwestern:
4 games played
5 games remaining - Wisconsin, @ Mich St, @ Minnesota, Illinois, BIG Title

Ohio St:
3 games played
5 games remaining - Indiana, @ Illinois, @ Mich St, scUM, BIG Title

Wisconsin:
2 games played
5 games remaining - @ NW, Minnesota, Indiana, @ Iowa, BIG Title

Oregon:
2 games played
5 games remaining - UCLA, @ Oregon St, @ Cal, Washington, PAC Title

USC:
2 games played
5 games remaining - @ Utah, Colorado, Wash St, @ UCLA, PAC Title

To recap max possible games without further cancellations:
ND/Clemson - 12
Florida - 11
Bama - 10
Georgia/Texas A&M - 9 (likely without multiple upsets to Bama and Florida)
Indiana/NW - 9 (only if they are 8-0)
Ohio St - 8
Wisconsin/Oregon/USC - 7

What if:
Clemson beats ND, Bama beats Florida, Ohio St beats Wisconsin, and Oregon beats USC

Bama 10-0 #1
Clemson 11-1 #2
Ohio St 8-0 #3

-4th team options-

Florida 9-2, Texas A&M 8-1, Georgia 7-2, Oregon 7-0, Wisconsin/USC 6-1
-OR-
ND 11-1

I think even 10-1 ND gets in over the other options (Oregon and Texas A&M as best alternatives). So why play the Wake game? Rest up with a bye before the ACC Title game and have the best showing possible vs Clemson. It makes more sense for ACC (and playoff $$$ for conference) and obviously ND. Playing 2 more than Bama and 4 more than Ohio St doesn't make any competitive sense. End Rant.

All true.

However, if ND has any loss, they will just come up with an excuse to exclude them, damn the logic.

I'd end the regular season after the Dec 5th games. Five ACC teams have ended their seasons after Dec 5 - Clemson, NC State, FSU, Syracuse and Duke. Cancel NC-W. Carolina on Dec 5th and move their Dec 12 game against Miami to Dec 5th. That would be almost half the ACC teams who will have ended their seasons on Dec 5th.

The Wake-Ga Tech game has been canceled rather than playing it on Dec 19th, the date of the ACC Championship. Miami and GaTech will play on that date but may be canceled.

Without fans these are not profitable games.

Exactly. I mean, Bama-LSU was supposed to be last week and has been rescheduled for Dec. 12, when LSU IS SCHEDULED TO PLAY FLORIDA. What happens to that game?

So, who is LSU playing that day? Are they playing in FLORIDA or at home vs Bama? Or not at all?

There were 15 games canceled or postponed last week (25.4% got played, even counting the last minute Pac-12 matchup). This week is already up to 13 (21%) and it's only Wednesday.

It's getting tough for me to see how this season can finish up in a remotely normal way with a quarter of the games not getting played.

Yeah, exactly how I feel too.

There are options. They could even push the CCs back if they wanted to. Or even some of the crap bowl games. IMO, they can get as creative as they want to be. Without fans, it's a lot easier to shift.

The bowl season starts on Dec 19th - the same day the ACC is scheduling two postponed games and the ACC Championship game. Three games have been scheduled - two ACC games and UL Monroe v Troy. The ACC has Miami - Ga Tech, Louisville - Wake Forest. Ridiculous to play regular season games into the third week of December.

The NCAA has waived any bowl eligibility qualifications. The first bowl for an ACC team is the 26th. Just have the Conference rank their teams for bowls if need be for teams who did not play the same number of games.

Why? I'd be fine with pushing back the bowls. And some of the late conf games will be better than the early bowl games. Overall, I'm fine with them pushing back bowls, and the CFP if needed. Heck, the NFL already said they're willing to push back the playoffs if needed. I'll take FB for as long as I can get it.

FSU - Duke game this weekend has been canceled. FSU has no more games scheduled with their last game played on Nov 14. Instead Duke will play Miami, who have NC (Dec 12) and GaTech (Dec 19th) left to play.

Hey, Dabo, FSU has an open date on the 12th as you do. ND plays Wake that weekend.

FSU doesn't want that game and Dabo doesn't either... He will be giddy getting that bye week and ACC will allow it because they bow down to Dabo

And with two weeks to rest and prepare, that may be a very long night for ND fans.

Then again, coming off a "bye week" sometimes it takes a little bit of time into the game before a team finds its rhythm. Playing WF and coming out without injuries will be the key.

You have become the most whiny poster on this board....in every thread you post. Man I feel sorry for whoever you hang with because it must be very depressing listening to you whine ALL THE TIME.

And come Dec. 12th, Wake Forest will have had FOUR weeks of rest and preparation for the Irish. That means it could be an extra very long night for ND fans, right?

I know it is easy to pile on FSU, but I see it a little different. Clemson got caught playing fast and loose when it came to the safety of their own players and their opponents.

The most popular thing being expressed by Clemson fans right now is exactly as you would expect: they are parroting the juvenile takes of their goober head coach. He is them and they are him. Take it from someone that lives here and is around these folks every day, you will not find a coach that is a more perfect representation of the fanbase than Dabo Swinney. The players are here to serve Dabo and the fans.

None of the Clemson fans have taken the time to try and understand why their staff would skirt the rules around COVID. And don't hold your breath waiting to read any of the media that covers them locally to write about it in depth. Football is extremely important here, so as a fanbase they expect their staff to do whatever is takes and make decisions that will always err on the side of football success. Player wellbeing, especially players not wearing orange, is way down the list.

I say that to say this. No matter what happens with Clemson and FSU, whether or not they make up the game, ND should make no noise about playing Wake Forest and then turning around the week later to play the ACCCG. Go play the game, win it and prepare to Clemson again the next week. Go about your business without getting involved in the drama of the ACC. This is a 1 year thing, we are here to win as many game as possible and move on. Let college football see the difference between a program that makes the right decisions for the right reasons (ND made a commitment to play a full ACC schedule in 2020 and they're going to finish it, damnit) and one that will bitch and moan to get out of making up the game in Tallahassee so as to get an extra week of preparation for the ACCCG.

Cause if they don't get that extra week of preparation for the ACCCG, that is another pre-ready excuse for why they (might have) got(ten) beat in the ACCCG -- they didn't have their extra week. Because I have news for you: they don't recognize the 11/7 loss to ND either. They were without so many players that it doesn't really count anyway, they say. Guess that "best is the standard" bullshit is only with a full roster and extra rest. So why not take the high road, beat Wake, and build in our own excuse for why we may lose the ACCCG?
