Some of the actual cowboy stuff they work into the show is cool. But yeah, the drama and violence just gets so out of hand. Constantly has to be bigger and more over the top.

It’s like the Fast and Furious series. We went from street racers to launching tanks out of C17s and going to outer space…what?!?

Honestly when Costner announced he was out on Season 5, part 2, I just threw in the towel. No longer interested in whatever half-assed conclusion they came up with to work around that.

Penguin was so freaking good and the way they ended it makes me very intrigued about The Batman II. Also I about lost it when I realized the Counselman Penguin is dealing with is Billy Walsh from Entourage.

The opposition to the new pipeline was setting up to be kinda interesting but then they went full Lifetime movie for conspiracy minded, rednecks.

That would be awesome if it was intentional (like full on Dukes of Hazard parody or something) but it seems like the writers were still trying to be “serious”. Every other line of dialogue is some platitude trying to serve up a zinger about rural values or whatever.

Anyone trying to watch the Tyson fight? My Netflix is stuck in a buffering death loop…

I was wrong. This definitely looks like a real fight and not a staged exhibition. Mike's reflexes at 58 are just gone. He's easy to hit and half a second slow with all his own punches.

Yeah, my Netflix kept erroring out too. Was able to find a pirated stream of it. Those of you who didn't get to see the fight: you didn't really miss anything. Paul outboxed Mike. Mike landed just 18 punches in eight 2 minute rounds. Paul landed 78. Wasn't expecting 80s Mike Tyson, and no one should have. He definitely was chewing on his gloves a ton. When asked about it post fight Tyson said, "I've always done that, I've got an oral fixation." Better gloves than ears I guess.

He landed a bunch of left hooks. Any one of them would have knocked this punk out even 10 years ago.

Is Paul a serious fighter? My wife and son had to explain to me that he was a youtuber who picked up boxing. Ok, Ed Too Tall Jones picked up boxing and he had about a dozen serious fights. Is he planning on fighting serious heavy weights not over the age of 40 at some point?

Paul is a decent fighter, but yeah...his shtick is pretty much fighting guys past their prime or other celebrities who have less skill. It's all for big paydays, resurrecting past fighters for quick cash. Whoever Paul gets in the ring with he ends up having the edge over one way or the other, I don't think there's been any fights that have been even skill. The Mayweather fight is maybe the exception, as Mayweather wasn't terribly over the hill and still looked pretty good, but you could tell Floyd wasn't going 100% and Mayweather actually saved Paul from going down at one point. That was one of Paul's first fights.

If I had to guess these fights are setup to be somewhat lighthearted. Neither fighter tonight was as aggressive as they could have been, but perhaps part of that was Paul just trying to stay away. I don't remember a lot of fireworks during the Mayweather fight either, lots of clinching in that one from Paul. I'm thinking Paul wanted a good showing, yet I wonder if both fighters tonight agreed not to pursue a KO.

Tyson is the best hustler of all time. I’m sure he was paid nice.

He also gives two shits about his legacy. Take loss #7 because he’s broke.

He literally sold out Jerry’s place. Hustler

I watched it. I think most of us hold on to the 1990 version of Mike Tyson, hoping we'd get a glimpse of the ghost of that iteration of Iron Mike. If I was honest with myself, I knew a 58 year old man in a boxing ring was not going to live up to any old memory of the 20 something year old caricature in my head. It was staged. There must have been an agreement by Paul to go easy and let it run the full 8 rounds. Whatever

Rounds were only 2 minutes…wasn’t even 8 full.

But you’re right, that late 80s/early 90s version was insane. He never bounced back after prison

This is what makes me feel like there was some sort of agreement on what could happen. Tyson never engaged or tried. He didn’t just forget technique. Sure he’s older and slower but didn’t seem to even try.

The fight did need to be rescheduled because Tyson was having medical issues. Maybe he never fully recovered?

I think his health issue was an ulcer. You may be right, but watching the fight, it sure appeared that the issue he never recovered from was his last birthday. He just couldn't get his shots off in time, which is a VERY common problem for older fighters. At 40 or 50 you see the shot and decide to throw it. At 20 or 30 you see the shot developing and it's already on its way. Tyson just looked old last night. Great shape for 58 and can still take a punch, but he struggled to avoid them. An old boxer once said, "You can still see the punches coming. You just can't get out of their way." Time is a MF'er to reflexes.
