Another thing that now stands out,... who are all the people laying on their backs in the picture... I assume that is a reference to something clarified in the books but only flown over quickly in the film???

I don’t think anything like this specifically is mentioned in the books. I think they are supposed to be victims, being used as sacrifices/offerings, and to demonstrate the harsh practices of the emperor’s warriors.

I think it’s just a way to build the stigma of the Sardakaur with very little actual screen time.

wife and I started "You" on netflix, pretty good so far.

We're in the middle of S3. We weren't sure if we were going to like the direction they were taking it but we're hooked again. It's an addicting show.

I started watching Squid Game last night and am now on the 2nd episode. Pretty interesting. Great cinematography and well-acted.

Season 3 of Succession. Just watched episode 4. There isn't a likable character in the series but it's very entertaining. Kieran Culkin is excellent.

They're all corporate American asswipes and a completely dysfunctional family. I can shut my brain off and just enjoy the show.

I finished Squid Game. It was very interesting with a couple of nice twists at the end. Definitely worth the watch.

I watched the first two episodes of Yellowstone's 4th season Sunday night. I was a little disappointed. The episodes were good and there were a few very good things in the story, but they hardly touched on a couple of plotlines and popular characters. Hopefully they'll get around to those things/people soon enough.

I'm ready to watch. What service did you watch it on? Looks like Comcast is airing S4E1 on the 14th.

It sure feels like every time a show looks like I may actually enjoy it I find that the show with said potential is on some other streaming service I don't have or cancelled last month etc... rinse and repeat. I'm pretty over it. I'm not going to get fifteen different streaming services...

You don't need fifteen different streaming services, you need 15 different friends with streaming services. This is the way.

The only streaming services I have are Netflix and Amazon Prime. My wife uses daughter #4's accounts on a couple of services, but I don't think I've ever used them. 95% of the time, I'm doing something sorta illegal: using a bit torrent to download episodes of any show I want to watch. New episodes of popular shows are usually available within an hour or two of their broadcast and I don't have to deal with commercials or buffering.

Last night I started watching the 2014-2015 series Manhattan, which is about the Manhattan Project. So far, it's quite good.

Watched 1917 The Real Story. Never read much about WWI like I have the other wars. This is a narrative documentary with footage from WWI. You could see this was a transitional war as they still relied heavily on horses and wagons and used trenches, yet tanks were introduced and the Germans were using submarines. If you're a war buff, you might find it interesting.

Yeah the US Civil War and WW1 were similar in that regard with weaponry and tech advancing beyond the tactics of the day. Led to a lot loss of life.

I'll look for this doc, thanks.

Tiger King 2 was alright, I guess. I think they all should be locked up for animal cruelty honestly, but whatevers.

So, we’re looking for a winter series to dive into. Per this board’s suggestion, think I have her talked into Yellowstone. Probably going to start tomorrow assuming I can duck out of Thanksgiving.

Without me having to read back…can someone just sum up what I’m getting into? Is this an Ozarks type show, because that lost my interest. Fast paced, wait and it’ll get better, how long is it, etc…without spoiling, you know?

Or, I’m open to other suggestions too.

many thanks!!

Don’t think I’ve watched a Kevin Costner flick/show since he turned the lights out in Baltimore

My wife describes Yellowstone as Game Of Thrones on a Montana ranch. I'm not sure I really agree, but she's not entirely wrong. Costner is about the 6th or 7th generation owner of one of the largest ranches in the US. He's pressured from every side as land developers, the local Indian reservation, the government, Yellowstone Park, the conservationists, and just about everyone else wants to push him off his land and disrupt his way of life. His wife has been dead for years and he's dealing with his four adult children. Lot's of family drama, political intrigue, and violence. The character development, writing, acting, and cinematography are all excellent. Lots of subplots and storylines involving the ranch hands and all the family members, lots of backstories that slowly, but eventually get revealed, and some major bad blood between some family members... for good reason. There are very few two-dimensional characters. Just about everyone has some depth and character development. Every episode peels back a layer of the onion and shows you something that makes you go, "Ahhh! OK, now I understand." It's one of my favorite shows ever. Really well done across the board. It probably won't get you all the way through the winter, though. It's currently nearing the half-way point of season 4 and there are only about 10 episodes per season.

If you don’t like Ozark, you probably won’t care for Yellowstone. I like it, but the wife doesn’t.

Let me add something. You know how you sometimes see a situation or someone being an asshat and you think of all the stuff you'd like to do to them or all the ways they should learn a lesson the hard way, but you can't really get away with doing that stuff so you don't? Well, in Yellowstone they do. There are some epic revenge, payback, "I tried to warn you," you just ****** with the wrong person, stupid games/stupid prizes moments. Just about every episode has a stupid prize award ceremony.

Watched "Pig" with Nicholas Cage. How in the hell does someone come up with that story line? Just bad all the way around.

I watched The Beatles: Get Back this weekend. I can't say enough good stuff about it. It's a 3-part 7+ hour documentary by Peter Jackson of LOTR fame, and so well done. It's just high quality footage of the Beatles and their inner circle during a month of writing, rehearsing, and recording what would become the Let It Be album and the Rooftop Concert. You get a great view into their relationships with each other, how they worked together, how a song evolves, how an album gets recorded, and a much more realistic look at what they were like as individuals and as a group than anything I've ever seen before.

I was under the impression that by this point, they were dysfunctional and angry at each other and unable to work together. Far from it. George was frustrated with Paul to some extent for being too dismissive of his ideas and walked out on the band for a few days, but John & Paul were still clearly close and having a lot of fun together. Lennon comes across as much funnier and more lighthearted than expected and impressed me as a much better guitarist than I'd realized. It was very cool to watch several famous songs be born and develop from a rough idea into a masterpiece. You even hear the rough beginnings of Something and a couple of other songs that wouldn't appear until the next album, Abbey Road.

One thing that really struck me was how difficult all of this must be for McCartney to watch today. This isn't a staged bit of acting, and it's not some grainy black & white video of The Beatles waving to a crowd. This is high quality, in color, extended moments of Paul and John, George, Ringo, Paul's late wife Linda, and other friends sitting face to face working together, laughing, swapping jokes and stories, etc. It's watching Paul & John waste an inordinate amount of time just being silly and trying to make each other laugh or bounce ideas off each other. This is real life intimacy with your brother and best friend, and your late wife. This was very real and personal. Had to be emotionally tough on Paul to watch this and remember those moments and how much he misses those people.

Anyway, if you haven't watched it, it's absolutely outstanding and well worth the 7 1/2 hours. If you're a Beatles fan, it's priceless. If you're not, it's still well worth watching.

George was a hidden talent. After they broke up and we were able to see what George could do, I would rank Paul as the third best song writer of the three. Originally John didn't want George as part of the Beatles. He felt he was too young (just two years younger...lol). Paul had to convince John to give him a try.

Watched Law Abiding Citizen (2009) with Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx. Not to bad if you like revenge movies.
