Was given a $5 gift card to Whole Foods for waiting 5 minutes in line for the guest services last Friday. So I'm getting some Korean fusion tacos for lunch, yum

Well they call them Korean Fusion, I'm not gonna doubt them. Basically I normally get Thai popcorn chicken with some refried black beans, brown rice, grilled veggies, shredded Monterrey or cheddar, pico, and a ton of tomatillo all double wrapped in corn tortillas. They're so stuffed that I've gotta eat some of the filling with a fork. 3/$7, which means that I'm only paying a little over $2 today for my tacos.

You have to tell me how it turns out....

Oh I get it every week. It's great and a really good deal. I'm getting it today because I probably won't have time to eat a full dinner, and this will be enough to hold me over.

Got the tacos. Switched it up and got 1 brisket taco to go with my chicken. Damn good stuff. FTR, they've called it Korean fusion tacos, I'm not sure that it qualifies.

Only Whole Foods could get away with this. Their "Korean Taco" is named the Seoul Train (pork, onion, kimchi etc), and the sweet and spicy chicken taco is called the "Spicy Ninja"

I didn't think it was really worth it's own thread, but let's talk coffee.

I'm not a big fan of creamer etc, so I drink mine black, but I don't like bad coffee (that watery shit that's everywhere). My office has a Keurig on the 2nd floor, so I've taken to getting whatever K Pods HEB has on sale so I can get through the day without drinking the burnt dirt my office likes to offer us for free.

What does everyone else do? Moka maker espresso in the morning? Cappucino? Drive through Starbucks latte? French Press?

So last week I got a big fresh cut of Ahi... marinaded it in a nice Asian marinade (yeah go figure, I know)...

didn't really measure but went off look and taste... mixed:

Soy Sauce
Rice Wine Vinegar
Garlic Powder
Salt
Little bit of Chili Oil
bunch of diced up green onion

Let it sit for about six hours... then seared both sides in my skillet....

Even my four year old loved it, we all agreed it was some of the best fish we've had.

I live alone. I prefer a dark roast. One of the few things I miss from my year in Miami is Cafe Cubano. A little bit went a long way.

Not wanting to get caught up in the muss and fuss an espresso machine, I buy French Roast whole beans, grind them coarsely, as needed, and use a French Press. Over my many years I've used percolators, Melitta style drip coffee makers (both "manual" and Mr. Coffee-ish. I've gone through Maxwell House (Good To The Last Drop), Folgers (The Richest Kind), Savarin, and Eight O'Clock phases.

I learned early to use double the recommended "dose" to achieve my goal. Before noon I do add cream and sugar. After noon I go straight black.

Oh, and don't forget to add the grounds to your compost or directly to your lawn and garden. They do wonders.

Been looking into getting more serious about coffee but have no clue where to start. Unfortunately it seems like a real money pit to get into. For example, I really enjoy espresso but it seems like a car down payment is necessary for breaking into that world. Im not a huge fan of French press. I may look into a pour over set up.

I got my Moka stove top maker for about $6 from TJ Maxx. You can make some espresso with that.

Not a big coffee guy, gives me the jitters if I drink too much, but I do enjoy small carmel coffees and fraps, I enjoy anything pumpkin too so when that yearly craze hits I'll get a few of those... more of a tea guy tho...

I hate to disagree, but that's not espresso. Stove tops make extra strong coffee, but the level of air pressure needed to create espresso just isn't there.

With coffee tho I am def a trainee, like I said if I drink too much it gives me the jitters... I'll get a small cup of black every blue moon from our Keurig but thats rare too... my wife and oldest daughter apparently couldn't live without the stuff tho....

When I was younger (and I had the time) I really enjoyed using a French press for my coffee. Now with 4 kids I use my wife's Keurig most of the time and for a special treat I stop by the Starbucks near me that is a reserve store and grab a cup of one of their reserves (which are 1,000 better than most of their regular choices).

I drink my coffee black and I prefer dark roasts or "darker" medium roasts.

So two straight nights of absolute home runs...

two nights ago, chimichurri tri tip tacos... some of the best tacos I've ever had, wife and kids agreed.

Last night: red beans and rice in the slow cooker with some home made cajun pepper sauce (first time making the sauce)... amazing.

tonight is going to be tough when we just pick up something cheap after my daughter's first softball practice...

Last night I made what we call "good pork." Basil-pepper crusted boneless pork loin chips topped with goat cheese, glazed onions, cherry tomatoes, and balsamic reduction.

Pizza?

HEB sells bottles of salsa verde cremosa for $1. I use that to bake some chicken breasts, then boil some sweet potatoes, add the chopped chicken breasts in a bowl with the sweet potatoes, add more salsa verde and a small amount of shredded cheddar. Top with as much Cholula as I like and enjoy with HEB mixta tortillas. Easy weeknight meal and it's so good
