I stumbled upon a youtube channel last night of a father/son (Ithink) duo who do bourbon reviews. Turns out they're from the Valpo area and mentioned that NE Indiana's allocation is pretty decent. They did an entire series on Buffalo Trace and their bottom line was the distillery makes some fantastic bourbons, but the allocation issues have a huge negative impact on their reputation. I pretty much agree. I haven't found a BT bottle that I didn't love...the problem is finding them (at decent prices).

Meanwhile Old Forester is all over the place and that stuff is phenomenal, imo.
Just trying to find Buffalo Trace can be a task in itself which is so annoying. I found an EH Taylor Small Batch in a mom-and-pop shop around here for $125... Just crazy

Meanwhile, Old Forester can gladly take my money. 1910 and 1920 are staples in my collection.

BT is good but it’s mostly good for its price point imo,… idk if I’d ever buy it if it were 20 more bucks a bottle.

Side: BlueGold,… could you share a link to that channel?

Yea Buffalo Trace is luck of the draw around me. Anything else bottled by them is entirely secondary market at this point. I'd love anything EHT but not at the price I'd have to pay. Agree on 1910 and 20. Fantastic pours. 1910 was the first bottle of bourbon I ever bought. I used to drink mostly scotch.

I agree with that about BT. It's a very good $25 bottle of bourbon. But when it gets up into the $50s, it's a hard pass for me. SLB Drinks came to the same conclusion. Their series on all (most) BT bottles is good. I feel like they have similar palates and mindsets to bourbon as I do. Plus they're semi-local to where I grew up so I've enjoyed the connection there.

I just watched their five most hated video,… interesting that Jefferson’s Ocean hit at 1. I haven’t tried anything Jefferson’s at all but I’m obviously aware of the ocean and the concept. Was looking forward to seeing their thoughts on Texas whisky’s but they only have one video and it’s all on the whiskys I’ve tried and didn’t favor,… like Garrison Bros and Balcones,… oh well

I think I've mentioned it before, but back in early 2010, I went on the Bourbon Trail Tour in Kentucky. Didn't go to all of the distilleries, but did make it to several, including Buffalo Trace. Almost all of it is really old school and looks like something from the '30s. The smell in the aging barns is one of life's greatest experiences. If you ever have a chance to go on the tour, do so.

Thinking about going to Buffalo Trace some time this year to celebrate my 40th.

I’d love to go,… love the Premium American Whisky of Yellow Rose. The Outlaw is just ok for me… interesting to learn they’re fairly new. Hearing ‘oldest distiller in Houston’ gave me the impression they were well established. Hearing him talk about how they’re still finding their finalized version of Outlaw and other stuff gave me an Ah ha also. I’ve read reviews of their stuff,… ‘way too firey, too much burn backed by massive sweetness, overwhelming,… terrible’ stuff like that. I guess it makes sense now bc most of those reviews are from years ago right when their first product would have hit the shelves. For me, the Premium American Whisky is super smooth, with bananas foster with a bit of cinnamon. It’s fantastic if you’re more into the smooth, sweet whisky instead of the harsh, more fiery ones.

It’s become my standard everyday sipper for sure, at least at this stage. I’ll take it over more well-known Texas stuff like TX, Balcones, and especially Garrison Bros which I’m not too fond of at all.

Woodford's tour was exceptional as well, it's one of the few distilleries that will actually walk you through the fermentation and distilling stages of their bourbons. All places will show you pictures or videos of the mash and the process, but they're literally making it on site and it's pretty incredible.

I also went to Stitzel-Weller this past August and came away impressed; they don't show you the distilling process on the tour but they also take you through the store house for aging, similar to Woodford, which is always a really cool part of the tour. You can see some 15-20+ year old barrels that are part of their special batches.

Snuck out of work to check out a new liquor store in town. Came away with a Willet Pot Still Reserve, Buffalo Trace, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, Knob Creek 9, and almost pulled the trigger on a Kentucky Owl. This place said they still get Blantons and Eagle Rare. It's always first come, first serve. No gimmicks.

Saw BT and ER today on a run but was hunting Texas stuff,… got a bottle of Witching Hour red for the wife,… then

-Bendt #5
-Aberfeldy 12
-Yellow Rye Rye
-Still Austin Bourbon
-Blackland Texas Pecan and Brown Sugar Bourbon (this shit is really good for flavored whisky)
-six pack of SN Torpedo IPA

The Bendt was only 18 bucks and I passed for a while bc the price was so super low but it’s usually listed on the best of Texas lists,… so,… I’ll try it

The Yellow Rose is really good. So far I love the Premium, kinda down on the Outlaw Bourbon and really like this Rye. Bit more fire than the other two tho

Love a good spot that doesn't play the game. For some reason, I have a hard time finding ECBP but I recently picked up a Stellum Black label. Solid bottle but pricey.

I want a Blantons bottle only because it looks cool on the shelf and has a ton of name recognition. If I fell into a position to buy multiples, it'd be for trade value only. I've heard it's a very mediocre pour from numerous people.

Our local Kroger had a massive raffle over the weekend. To my knowledge they didn't really advertise it as only 100 people knew. Super rare bottles on their shelves...in a Kroger! I was pretty pissed to find out about it after the fact.

Snagged a bottle of the Bardstown Origin Series Bourbon (white label) last weekend for about $45. It's a new release from Barstown and it's fantastic. Highly recommend!

Amazing this was my first reply in the thread,… that may have been the last time I’ve had one,… it’s been SO LONG.

Anyway, I’m doing the alcohol for lent thing this year so when I’ve gotten the ‘I want a beer’ tick I’ve had non alcoholic beers,..I bought a few different ones last week and most I’ve tried are pretty good actually

I did the same but instead of beers I’ve had pop. I’m loooking forward to Easter Sunday festivities. I just picked up a build-your-own six pack from Total Wine & More. La Fin Du Monde is the choice for the day.

Let me know your thoughts.
I've had it plenty of times before, I actually toured Stitzel-Weller distillery back in August. I like it a lot, but it's already shooting up in price (at least locally in MI).

I got a bottle for $45 from the distillery but it retailed for $60 up here, most recently. It just started selling in MI this past month. The last time I bought a bottle was a trip to South Bend in September, and I think I paid about $50.

It's very smooth, it's a good bargain compared to what people will be shelling out for a bottle of Blantons, for example.
