I’ve definitely found the crowd of whisky I enjoy after finally getting my feet wet a few years back. The list of those I don’t enjoy is much longer I suppose but my favs:
-Oban
-Aberfeldy
-Angels Envy
-Tomatin
-Elijah Craig really impressed me today so I’m adding that…

I like select Glenmorangie and Leadslingers too…
I have an unopened bottle of Yellow Rose I’m gonna try later. Also super interested in that Orphan Barrel Muckety Muck, has anyone tried?? Is it worth the price point?

Was my gf’s birthday and successfully pulled off a semi-surprise party for her. Mixed a bit more liquor types than I would like, but finished at the bar with a few rounds of Clase Azul and Maestro tequila. So much better then Don Julio or Patron or other popular brands.

At an airport bar, since my flight was delayed. Order a double Johnnie Walker black, on the rocks. They gave me a triple, poured it in a coke glass, gave me a straw, and charged me $3.

I strongly dislike tequila generally,… I really like Clase Azul.

Jester King Dichotomous.

Nice foamy head on the pour with good body and good carbonation.

Has some funk on the nose along with pepper and lemon.

Taste is pleasantly tart with just a hint of watermelon. Nice dry finish.

Really well balanced, particularly considering many wild ales I’ve had recently have been over the top acid bombs.

Top notch wild ale in my opinion.

Not really one of their best beers but tbh they haven’t been releasing too many fruited sours the past couple years. Glad you were able to get a good wild ale!

Knob Creek, Bulliet, Blantons, or Woodford. Don’t mind makers either. Sorry a bit of a bourbon snob.
Hmmm,…. Not had Blantons but,… different strokes I guess. I’ll take Envy over each of the others named,… 🤷‍♂️

I have some Elijah Craig and Yellow Rose ready to crack open for Thursday however. Enjoy EC,… haven’t had YR yet

Blantons my favorite of the bunch but the issue is it’s almost impossible to get in certain areas and if you want to dig into the wallet Hibiki is great also.

On another note if you enjoy bourbon you should look into flaviar. It’s a great service and a great Christmas gift.

I hear yah.

I have had some pretty amazing Jester King beers this past year including Atrial Rubicite, Bitter Death, various Spons, Biere de Coupage and Spinning Away (those are great beers). Only clunker from them being a bottle of Boxers Revenge. It was just straight vinegar so maybe just a bad bottle. The particular beer above was just really subtle and well balanced in my opinion.

Not sure why but I’ve had some fruit based wild ales in the past year or so from Side Project, Ale Apothecary, Pfriem and a couple others that were completely over the top with the acidity. Just really harsh. I poured out most of a bottle of Abricot Du Fermier for that reason. I guess I was expecting something closer to Fou' Foune but it was just really acerbic in a bad way.

Anyhow, best thing to come out of Covid is it seems like getting beers from various small breweries is way easier.

Cheers!

Wife and I cracked open the Texas Bourbon Yellow Rose I’ve been sitting on,… it’s good. It’s sharp and the notes are subtle… reminds me more of my choice Scotch whisky’s like Aberfeldy for Oban than more recent Bourbons like Envy, Trace or Craig… it’s good. I’ll get it again.

Anyone know where you can get Sierra Nevada Kellerweis in central Indiana? I used to get it at grocery stores around here years ago, but I bet it’s been almost 10 years since I’ve seen it.

I’m still fairly surprised by this… much different than my expectations but in a good way
