Black is better but I normally stay away from JW. Actually I normally wait until a good single malt is on sale before I get anything. Also, make sure to add a splash of water. Not ounces mind you, but some.

They age this stuff in a forest fire.

JW Red is not worth purchasing. There are better whiskies to have at that price point. It is very young and very harsh (Teachers if it is available by you is better and cheaper). JW Black is solid (as Zelezo pointed out) but the JW line really starts getting better at Green Label.

Also JW Red isn't that smokey, there are other Scotch's that are significantly more "smokey" but they also have balancing sweetness, oak, etc.

*ETA: I don't know what prices are like by NorthDakota but Glenlivet 12 is only about $8-10 more a bottle here than JW Red and it is significantly better as well.

Sierra Nevada Celebration
Lagunitas High West-ified. Crazy that it is $13 for a six pack or $2.25 for a single by me. How often can you find a good barrel aged beer for that cheap.

Absolutely. Wasn't able to find any 6pks by me, only singles. Still a great beer for the price.

Most places are doing singles only (the place I got my six pack from is doing singles only but they know me so they made an exception). I was in a place yesterday that was only selling singles and they had 12 in the fridge and 2 unopened cases on the ground. Not sure why they wouldn't sell me a six pack :soapbox: since they have had it for 2 weeks and still had that much left.

Thoughts?
Shared with my buddy that brews his own beer. For an almost certainly non fresh double IPA, it was pretty good. Bitter, strong, full bodied. I really enjoyed it. My friend added: dry, pine.

We're having a triple ipa he made when he made a mistake in his formula for a strong IPA. We're falling it the accidental triple IPA. Very sweet for 11%

Lagunitas Hop Stoopid is coming to 6 packs. It will be $8 here but I have heard prices ranging from $8-10 depending on the area.

I just received a notification that my local HEB has bottles of Firestone Walker XX. I've never had it, do I need to stop by and pick up a bottle?

Depends on how much you want to spend on a beer. It is a great beer but it is really expensive ($22 here for a bomber). It is a blend of their barrel age beers.

Here is this years blend or at least what I think it is:

Parabola – Russian imperial Stout, aged in new oak & bourbon barrels. 40% of Blend
Stickee Monkee – Belgian-style Quadrupel, aged in new oak & bourbon barrels. 20% of Blend
Velvet Merkin – Oatmeal Stout, aged in bourbon barrels. 17.5% of Blend
Bravo – Brown Ale aged in bourbon. 12.5% of Blend
Helldorado – Blonde barleywine aged in bourbon. 10% of blend

Hmm. To be honest I'd rather spend that much on wine. The style I saw was "strong ale" and I was very intrigued, but knowing the guy I'd share the XX with, he's probably not too interested so I guess I'll probably pass. My mind may change by 6 though.
