While somewhat true, I love sours, stouts, porters, old ale, quads, dubbel, and imperial reds. I also like barrel aged beers and some Hefes.

Jake's in Yucaipa would sometimes have their barrel rolls on tap for a reasonable price (I think it was like $7 for a 10 or 12oz goblet) and so I tried a few that way. Not sure I want to pay $18-20 for a 750ml bottle though.

So what kind of beers don't you like as a style?

I don't like shandy's and I have some struggle with Tripels and Saisons (though I do like some), and pilsners aren't my thing. A standard Amber and Brown ale are just ok (but make them hoppy or add something to it, and it is a different story). Basically I am up for just about anything, but there are some styles that I am more picky about. Oh and I am not a fan of English IPAs, :censored:

Kind of like how I feel about whisky and wine, there are styles that I prefer but rarely a style that I can't enjoy.

Ardbeg Uigeadail. Got an Ardbeg special pack, full 10 yo bottle and two sampler bottles, Uigeadail and Corryvreckan. Phenomenal

Orange Wheat is Shit. Shit I tell you. Though that explains the problem, you have shitty tastebuds. :starwars:

Hangar 24's barrel roll series is really good though very expensive. Also Betty IPA and Iconic DIPA are solid beers.

*In reality Hangar 24 is a pretty good but not very special brewery (besides the barrel rolls, many of those rock).

Betty is ok to me but what makes it a great IPA is because chicks will drink it too.

Double Betty is my favorite drinking beer when it's available. I've been hanging out at a little joint in Laguna Nigel because they had 3 barrels of Double Betty and 22's are just $8. I'd put Mother Earth Boo Koo behind that.

The best thing to enjoy is Hanger 24's Barrel Roll Hammerhead Barleywine. Slater's and the BWW's in Aliso Viejo and Mission Viejo have it when it's available.

Uigeadail is great.

Founders KBS for me.

I scored a 4 pack at Total Wine & More in Laguna for $19.99. Actually $40 because I gave the beer mgr a tip for stashing it. Arizona gets Founders now right?

I also have two bottles of Dark Lord coming on the 1st. My trade will require a trip to Alpine to secure a long list in return. I'm excited, I never made it out there. I'll also get another 4pk of KBS at that time.

In other good news, my girl's daughter is now in management at Belching Beaver. That's key because Me So Honey is my beach beer. Her boyfriend runs Urbn Pizza and Mother Earth is right across the street from his main location in Vista. My plan is finally coming to fruition.

Just heard Ballast Point was bought out by Anheuser Busch... So next time you pay 16 bucks a six back, just remember,...'this bud's for you.'

;)

Constellation Brands bought Ballast Point. They own the rights to the Gruppo Modelo portfolio in the United States. AB InBev owns the rest of the world.

Have you had Hanger 24 barrel roll Pugachev's Cobra? It is a Russian Imperial Stout in whiskey barrels and very good as well.

Yep, Founders comes to AZ.

Your plan does seem to be working, now you get to enjoy it.

I am a little surprised that you haven't been to Alpine Brewing. Last time I was there 1.5 years ago the brewery itself is really small, no room to sit and drink but a few doors down is their restaurant. If you stop by the restaurant let me know how the food is.

ETA: I hate typing on my phone.

Belching Beaver is interesting. I have had their PB Stout and their honey beer... both were good. I'm not usually a Stout guy and could drink the PB.

Had The Bruery's Tart of Darkness last night. First time trying a sour stout, and it was impressive. Very tart, lots of berry, a little bit of oak on the back end.

Good news: Total Wine (at least in Arizona) is now stocking 6-packs of Weihenstephaner Vitus, one of my favorite weizenbocks, for ~$10.

Bad news: Crescent Crown, Total Wine's distributor, recently stopped carrying New Belgium Abbey, which at $7/ sixer, was the best value anyone looking for a dark Belgian could find. Hoping that Whole Foods still carries it.

You like sour stouts?

I'm blessed to have a 'mini bev mo' right down the street from me... one thing they carry plenty of is the top Bavarian stuff. Vitus is one of my favs as well.

I like sours, though I generally don't like stouts. Didn't know what to expect from Tart of Darkness, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Was that a gift/trade or does Bruery distribute in AZ?

Are there any liquor stores with a better selection that TW&M or Bev-Mo that you'd like to share in the PHX metro area? I'm coming back full time at the end of the month and will travel for optimum selection.

One of my buddies brought it over last night.

There really aren't. Mom 'n pop liquor stores will occasionally have a rare whiskey that BevMo and TotalWine don't carry, but you'll pay through the nose for it.

I like Tart of Darkness but it is pretty expensive.

Yeah, I wouldn't pay $19 for a bomber of it.

Sweet. This move back won't be the death sentence I was fearing. Seems much has changed in my 2 years away. I've gotten lazy when I'm in AZ lately. Stick to Lagunitas because it's available without digging through the brush. I'll have to go through TW&M and see what's on the menu upon my return.

Funny that you asked about Pugachev's above. My shopping list includes that if I knew anyone that had one laying around from the winter. I've never had it, I'm not a big trader and it never magically appeared in front of me. Since it was out around Christmas though, I've had a few people asking me about it on Facebook so it's on the list for next year.

Founders KBS for me.

It was awesome, may splurge some day on a bottle.

How was the KBS?

Local bottle shop near me received 2 cases of BCBS, picked up two...lets hope they're not infection!

What does Uigeadail cost by you? Here in AZ it is $88 but I can pick it up in CA for $60-65 (plus the place in CA will ship it to me for $10) which is much more reasonable and makes it less of a splurge.

I really like KBS but I find that it falls short of the hype. I like picking up a 4 pack but I probably won't pick up any more (though I will buy it on tap when I see it). To me it is 93-95 points.
