Caol Ila 1979/2005 25yo 58.4%

This bottle is almost empty. I will be sad. Lots of strong flavors all fighting to win out. Mint, smoked fish, wood spices, olives, olive oil, brine, wood smoke.

I can't imagine smoked fish being a flavor I want to drink!

Do you like smokey Islay whiskies, such as Ardbeg 10 or Caol Ila 12? Or even Lagavulin 12yo CS?

I really like the flavor of smoked fish in a whisky. In Ardbeg 10 I normally (though not always) find the smell/flavor (or what I think it would taste like based off of smell) of tar and diesel. Odd smells/flavors can work in whisky as long as it isn't the only flavor/smell. Well at least for me, YMMV.

Talisker 25yo bottled in 2004 57.8%

Another bottle that is running really low. A great whisky as well. Definitely some walnuts, raisins, figs, rum, dates, almonds, and balsamic vinegar. Slight smokiness but more of a background note. Some fresh ground pepper as well especially on the finish. I think that I will miss this bottle even more than the Caol Ila when I finally finish it.

Whiskey unless you only have a few drinks left in you. Until then, stick to drams of whiskey

Van Wees Longmorn 1996/2013 17yo sherry cask. An Europe only bottling that puts Macallan 18 to shame. Cherry, leather, raisins, apples, oak, strawberry and figs.

Clearly I need to work for a bank. Unless I'm forgetting where you work.

While bank pay is good, what you really need is a wife who works in oncology/BMT. Smart, beautiful and makes bank, only God knows why she married me.

I just need a virtuous wife. Not one with a specific career. That's all I know. Happy New Year, sir.

Two more whiskies for me.

First up.
Lagavulin 1995 12yo Friends of Classic Malt (Europe/UK bottling) aged in sherry casks 48%.

A nice combo of sherry and peat. Not anything as good as the 21yo, or even the Distillers Edition but still a damn good bottle.
Smoked wood, sherry notes (raisins and balsamic vinegar), and soft peat.

Ok, final pour.
G&M Secret Stills 2.2 Speyside (believed to be Cragganmore) 1966/2006 40yo.

I love this whisky. Soft sherry, polished oak, some pencil shavings, leather, rancio and walnuts.

A bomber of Lagunitas The Hairy Eyeball Ale. Lots of malt. Kind of like a malty apple crisp with caramel and extra brown sugar.

Anyone hear release dates for Hopslam? Apparently no bottles this year, only cans.

I think that their release party for Hopslam is Jan. 20th. I would think right around then. Not sure if that is helpful.

Well I finally got a bomber of 3F Gumballhead and I am really enjoying it. Christmas was good to me this year. Friends and family gave me lots of great beers. My wife thinks that's a sign of something. I said it's a sign that I have have smart friends and family, haha.
