I generally like Japanese whiskies (and these are damn good ones), but they are way overpriced in the US.

This....I haven't had a bad one. You can occasionally get a good/fair price on the west coast....almost everywhere else that I have seen, the word is out, and the gouge is on.

Edit: Blithering Idiot for me tonight.

Girl butchers a rochefort 10

That was painful to watch.

Drank a lot of this Double Crooked Tree IPA growler today. Little too sweet for me but at 12% abv, whatever.

Stone Enjoy By 4/20/15. I purposefully held this bottle a week past the date to see how it held up. I felt that this bottling was deteriorating the closer we got to 4/20/15 (becoming even more bitter, and losing some of the fruit aspects). Today it is still bitter but now it has gone down a few notches (mostly bitter grapefruit peel and pith) but now there is some sweet orange notes as well to go with a some malt. Definitely not as good as when it is fresh but that the same could be said about almost all IPA/DIPAs. Probably more of a mid to high 80's beer a week after the Enjoy by date but still reasonable.

Y'all are making me feel like a drunk for triple posting in here. Step it up!

Chianti Classico 2012. Paired with manchego cheese. Not perfect, but acceptable.

Newcastle Scotch, pretty much what one would expect, a good, easy drinking Scotch ale but nothing mind blowing...

I've tried a few today (hey, it's my day off, shut it).

Victory Golden Monkey. Good, but I'm not sure I can justify the higher price.
Shiner Ruby Red. I don't see the appeal at all. Just not for me.
Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA. I hadn't tried it on tap. I like it just as much as last time. Immediately a contender for my favorite IPA.

Just got the last two on tap in my bar.

New Belgium Trippel

Regarding your Golden Monkey review above, New Belgium is tough to beat for value, no?

Same here. I'm not much for hoppy stuff in general, but I've enjoyed most of Lagunitas' and Deschutes' offerings thus far.

Also, I wanted to endorse pkt's assertion of Trois Pistoles > Maudite.

Agreed, New Belgium is the value to beat, though value is not my only factor in deciding what to buy.

I really like the Deschutes. Much more balanced than I'm used to drinking.

Golden Road Wolf Among Weeds IPA. One of the better L.A. area IPAs. Nice pine and tropical fruits.

Bell's Saturn. Not bad, but very simple. Lots of barrel notes (vanilla, oak and a little bourbon) to go along with some molasses and malt.

Mr Sir, have you tried the Stone Barrel aged Arrogant Bastard?
